community service hours

Question Posted Saturday November 18 2006, 8:29 pm

15/f

My school requires me to fulfill 24 community hours. I have only 3 and the hours are due by the end of January, but I don't know what to do for them. I got the three hours from camp, but it was from pulling weeds. PS it needs to be supervised like I can't go to the beach myself without anyone and clean it up and put that, it has to be through some function or organization

so basically what is a way to get more communtiy serivice hours I was thinking of an animal shelter but I'm too young for that.
PS. don't say babysitting please
thanks so much and I would love you if you could help.

Hey. You could always volunteer helping like sort out books at a library or something. You could also like work for a fmaily member or friend if they are a waitress/waitor, you may be able to hostess. You could also talk to a highway worker and liek pick up trash or something..Hope I helped you! ♥ Kathleen

ok well at my school we have to do 40 hours, for some ppl it's easy and others it's hard...and i think im safe by saying your one of the ppl who struggle...basically all you need to do is look up some voluntary organisations in your area such as a soup kitchen and call ahead to volunteer...I am in the oganasation of scouts canada and with this program i have accumulated almost 200 hours in 4 years and including my volunteering as a councellor at a summer camp i have about 500 hours...and im also on the yearbook comity at my school and i get hours for that as well...so just ask around and you should be able to get plenty of hours by january...

PS: alot of organisations appreciate help around christmas time :):)

your local fire or police department will let you wash their vehicles usually, and its a good way to check out to see if you might want to become a fire or police officer.

When I had to do my community service hours, for some of them, I volunteered for the salvation army around Christmastime. You know how they have those people ringing bells with big pots collecting money at streetcorners and stores? That'd be them. All you have to do is stand there, ring a bell and say thank you when someone gives you some change. It's really easy and you can do it with a friend or a whole group of friends. Contact the salvation army in your area and they should be able to set you up. Good luck! :)

We had to do 40 hours, so I know what it's like.

Do you do any after school activities? I volunteered teaching childrens' karate classes at the club I studied at, and my little sister does scorekeeping for her bowling league. That's always a good way to do your volunteer hours, because you're giving back to an organization you're benefiting from.

Try a food bank, homeless shelter or womens' shelter, or even an old age home. They always need help!

Remember that volunteer work is an important part of life, and keep at it, even after your hours are done! I logged over 100 hours in 4 years of high school, and I still volunteer regularly.

Hospital volunteer.

15 sounds the right age, and you would be doing mostly paper work...no hands on approach with patients. For the most part, hours are flexible since you are a volunteer. Good luck.

I'm sure your local library is in need of someone to shelve books. And when the time comes for you to get a job, you can apply there and they'll say, "Hey, she's the girl who volunteered! Neat, let's hire her!" Two birds with one stone. ^__^

I'm surprised your school hasn't given you more resources! When it comes to just getting hours, I think it's easiest to call United Way or red cross or some big organization like that and offer to stuff envelopes. they'll probably be thrilled to have you and you won't get dirty or have to babysit!

well today i earned three hours by going to a local church andmaking dinner and bringing it to a homeless shelter. some elementary schools have after school programs where they need some volenteers to help kids with their home work. if you go to your guidance counsler im sure they'll lead you into something

Hmmm.
Some things that my friends have been doing are..

Going to the dog pound and cleaning cages
Picking up trash at parks
Babysitting
Filing papers for executives

Being someones personal assistant also qualifies

Talk to your school guidance counselor. Theyll have alot of ideas.

I dont know why you'd be too young for an animal shelter though. Usually there isnt an age for volunteer work. Any help is good help. I highly doubt they'd reject someone.
Ask around too.
