School Rules

Question Posted Sunday September 24 2006, 2:23 pm

I'm doing a project on rules in schools, the good and the bad. However, I need rules that AREN'T just at my schoo or in my state.

I was wondering, what kind of dress codes do you guys have at your schools? Length of shorts, tank tops, ripped jeans?

Also, what are the rules on PDA? We get suspension if we're caught hugging.

Just any rules you may feel strongly about or just ones you guys totally love!

Thanks so much!
Female, 14.

At my school, dress code is selective- it looks pretty strict, but they rarely catch anyone. The rules are:
- No gang apparel (no bandanas)
- Tank tops must have 2 inch straps (girls)
- No tank tops for guys
- No underwear/bras showing
- No official rule for skirts...the yarduty is the judge of it, I think the general saying is knuckles while your hands are at your sides.
Again, not really enforced.

PDA...no rules enforced unless the school inspectors for the Distinguished school board are coming. Then you can't even take a nap if someone's near you. But that's the only exception.

our dress code is pretty loose and there are no rules on pda (TRUST ME) but we do have to wear i.d.'s and if we forget them we get a temp. for 2 days detention and if we lose them we have to pay to get another one. also we can't be in the building until 8:30an shcool starts at 8:40. No one gets that one. we also have security guards around every corner.

hi I go to a posh all girls school in England.

knee length green skirt,
long sleeved white shirt
green tie
green blazer
hair has to be tied back
black or green shoes, completely flat
white or black socks.

there are no guys in our school to hug.
thought it might help having rules from an entirely different school.

Well...in all honesty, where i go to school, students get off, hug, kiss, hold hands etc without getting into trouble.

Skirts are not meant to have splits in them (though we do have rule-breakers lol *shifty eyes* not me *shifty eyes*

As for rules i hate...There is this one about 'extreme hairstyles' that i just don't get...It's so pathetic...as if it matters what your hair is like!!! lol

Rules in my school:

Tank tops are allowed as long as your bra straps aren't showing

Shorts must be 5 inches above the knee

Skirts must be 5 inches above the knee

No excessively ripped jeans

No spiked collars, wrist bands etc

No tshirts suggesting drug usage, nudity, alcohol, etc.

Backless shoes are allowed

Cleavage must not be showing

Shirts must meet pant line when arms are raised

As for PDA they don't really care too much about that. As long as you're not having sex in the middle of the hallway, they don't care.

However, some of these rules are sort of just brushed off because teachers in my school don't give a damn about anything that the students do. Basically as long as you don't look like a hooker you won't get in trouble.

Dress code:
(I'm at a private kindergarten through 8th school in California, by the way, if that affects your research)
-No spaghetti straps or tube tops
-No midriff baring tops
-No hats, hoods, or sunglasses indoors; no bandanas
-No ripped jeans
-Shorts/skirts have to be at least halfway to your knee
-No clogs, open-toed shoes, or heels

******************

PDA:
We don't have very specific rules about PDA, but if people are kissing (on the lips) a teacher will tell them not to. They'd probably just get a warning the first few times, but if they keep doing it they'd probably call the parents.

Hugging and kissing on the cheek are fine, unless two people are groping each other or something.

*******************

Other Rules:
We can't have iPods, cellphones, or similar electronics at school AT ALL, even at lunch. That pretty much sucks. Other than that, we don't have any out-of-the-ordinary rules.

*******************

Good luck, I hope I helped :)

We have a pretty basic dress code. We can't have short skirts, shorts without pockets, clothes with holes in them, pajama pants, slippers, tank tops, halter tops, major PDA, cellphones, or mp3 players. Our tank tops have to have straps wider than two inches. We also have to wear IDs. They have our picture, school name, and ID number. Hope thats helps. By the way, thats for my school in Northwest Louisiana.

I go to a small PUBLIC highschool in Texas.

We have standardized dress which is:

Polos or button up shirts
solid colors
brown, black, or khaki pants/shorts/skirts
all shorts and skirts have to be knee length or longer
shoes must be solid color and not distracting
socks must be black, white, or brown
shoelaces have to match the shoe or be white

if we break dress code the first time it's a warning but the second time, we get Friday night school until 6:00. The third time, we get Friday night school until 8:00.

PDA:
we can hug and hold hands but no deep kissing or long hugs. We get warnings for the first few times then a 15 min detention.

Well if this helps at all i go to a public school and we have dress code. Solid collard, color shirt. Solid color pants and skirts and shorts and closed toed shoes, no hats, no hoodies and plain colored jackets. Skirts and shirts have to be the same length as your arms as if they were on your sides straight down. Its ok i guess. I mean sometimes i wish we didnt have dress code but its good sometimes if you dont know what to wear in the morning all you have to worry about is the color ;-] hope i helped! good luck with your project *follow your heart*i Americangirl <3

Dress Code Rules:
1) No midriffs exposed.
2) Shorts/skirts should meet your fingertips when standing.
3) No outdoor or winter coats are allowed in the classroom.
4) Head wear (bandanas, hats, sweatbands, or hoods) may be worn at anytime in the building.
5) Undergarments must not be visible.
6) Spaghetti straps, tube tops, halter-tops, backless tops, and one shoulder tops are not acceptable.
7) Slippers of any type are not alowed. Shoes must be worn at all times.

Our rules are fairly strict, but they aren't enforced very well. I see tons of girls wearing short shorts and halter tops. Only certain people can get away with it, though. It's odd.

As for PDA -- like before, certain people get away with it when others don't. Technically no kissing, hugging, holding hands, or the like is allowed.

Hope this helped :)

MelLeDisko answered Sunday September 24 2006, 7:28 pm:
Like the person said below, at my school, Middle School rules and High School Rules are different. High School doesn't care as much as to what you wear and everything in school. You're allowed gum, to wear whatever, you're allowed to wear hats, etc. They also don't mind PDA as much either. I've seen a couple of couples kiss and the teachers were nearby and didn't get them into trouble.

But in Highschool, we're not allowed to have cameras without the permission of the principal, obviously no cellphones ( same goes for the Middle School ). And we're not allowed ipods either during class. We're allowed during lunch or outside of school, but that's it.

As for Middle School, our tank top straps need to be at least 2-3 fingers wide, and we're not allowed to wear anything that has marijuana symbols, playboy symbols, anything bad. PDA isn't really allowed either, but I've never seen any PDA in Middle School, I've seen hugging and they didn't get in trouble, so it's allowed. Skirts and shorts aren't really a problem, same with flip flops and ripped jeans. Obviously halter tops and tube tops are allowed in Middle School.

And during both schools, of course no smoking, no drugs, no alcohol, no pills, etc. If you're caught you get suspended or expelled. And obviously, no fighting either. It used to be just detention or suspension for awhile, but now sometimes, depending on how bad the fighting the police will come or you'll go to court.

I hope I helped.

HELP4YOU answered Sunday September 24 2006, 7:22 pm:
-Female, 14,

My middle school and high school are very different. In the high school, hugging, kissing, holding hands, etc, isn't really any issue. People are allowed to wear flip flops, skirts, tanks and ripped jeans. They made a new rule about girl gym clothing and how it cannot but a tanktop, whatsoever. There is no smoking on school grounds but I don't know the consequence if you are caught. They are really strict on cutting classes; you'll get detention. They don't like hats or gum as a school rule, but some individual teachers allow it.

In the middle school, there is no gum, hats, short skirts/shirts, spaghetti strapped tanks, and flip flops. No one really hugs and kisses in the halls unless it's the end of the school day. Although once I did see someone get a small talk from a teacher. Cutting isn't an issue since they're younger and probably doesn't even know what it means. When I was in middle school, my friends and I got away with wearing flip flops because we hooked on clear bra straps to the back of them because this annoying teacher would always say... "NO BACKS, NO STRAPS, NO GOOD!" Well, since they had straps, we were allowed to wear them. :)

Hope your project goes well,
