Melody answered Saturday July 22 2006, 11:59 pm: For entertainment try playing dress up or barbies with the girl when the boy is busy watching tv, or something else. With the boy, he'll probably want to play 'dinosaurs' or 'action figures' or something equally as cute while the girl is doing something on her own.
If you feel more comfortable playing with them together, take them outside and play hide & seek, tag, or something in that nature. If they have a swing set or sandbox, swing and make sand castles with them. Don't be afraid to actually enjoy playing all these baby games. They will have more fun if your enjoying your self also. Since it's the summer, invest in a little kiddie pool for them. If that's out of the question, spray each other with the water hose. Not only will this wear them out for naptime, but it will cool you off on hot summer days. If you don't want to go out, try playing those cute little memory card games with them. Or another toddler board game, or you could color, paint, or play with play dough, though this can get rather messy. Try story books, or even helping them with their schoolwork. Since they are only in like 3rd grade, it should be rather easy for you.
For cooking, try cold cereal for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch. Very simple, but also very easy to make and healthy to eat. Or one day ask them what they would like to eat. That will be a wonderful treat for them, as well for you because you get to experiment with foods. [ Melody's advice column | Ask Melody A Question ]
playboybabeex3 answered Saturday July 22 2006, 11:54 pm: heyy;; im 14 too =) and i believe that before beginning a babysitting job it is a good idea to talk to the parents a few days to a week before the babysitting date. during this discussion you want to ask the parents what are their childs favorite foods, allergies to foods, hobbies, intrests and maybe even favorite cartoon carictor. This will help you pink a theme. Theme re important to keepthe child having fun; if every event is tied together they will be more memorable for hte child and the parents will get more positive feedback. For the 6 year old boy, if his favorite guy was spongebob you could purchaces pongebob shapred kraf macaroni for lunch. For some crafts revolving around that theme you could guy yellow sponges (available at a dollar store) and google eyes and felt and pipecleaners, along with other arts and craft matierials you find usefull. together you construct your own spongebob charictors and see whos looks more realilistic. coloring books are also very cheep,. fun and can be related to any theme. im sorry that i wrote so much, i wanted to be very detailed. i hope i helped =))
xshelbyyyy answered Thursday July 20 2006, 5:53 pm: I babysit about four 6 yr old boys and quite a few 8 yr old girls (I babysit for alot of families!) so I can help :]
Entertainment: For the girls, They love dressing up and feeling glamourous. Give them makeovers, play some goofy dress-up and I've also found my charges like taking goofy pictures. So if you have maybe a digital camera bring it, you dont even have to keep the pictures, just delete them. Or you could print 'em out and give the pics to their parents :] Also, barbies sometimes works with that age group, disney things, movies, making bracelets or necklaces, anything. Just be creative. 8 yr olds arent that pick about that kind of thing. Especially if their sweeties :] For entertaining the boy, its a bit more tricky because they change their minds soo often. G.I. Joes, playing "Army", playing anything having to do with the Army, Air Force, Police, Fireman, things like that. They really like playing pretend. Water guns=the best for this age! Maybe go to a dollar store and buy a few cheap ones, that you can re-use for other babysitting jobs. But make sure their parents are OK with the whole "guns" concept before you do! For both of them playing together, Hide n Seek, Tag (TV, Freeze.. etc) maybe playing in the sprinklers or going to a neighborhood pool. The game I play with my charges they seem to like.. "Tickle Monster" I chase after them and when I catch them I tickle them :] Haha.
Cooking: Their parents will appreciate it if you try to make them eat relativly healthy, but still yummy. Make sure there is no food allergies though! Wouldn't want an allergic reaction! Here's a few meal ideas..
Breakfast= Toast with jam and some cereal (Lucky Charms, Trix, anything bright colored they may have) or like, Eggo waffles :] If you feel comfortable cooking, scrambled eggs usually go over well. Biscuits too.
Lunch= "Ants on a Log" (Raisins and peanut butter on a stick of celery), cheese sticks, cut up apples, PB&J Sandwiches, again, if you want to cook, perhaps Chicken Nuggets or pizza rolls. Spagetty-O's are usually a favorite, if they are at hand. Just mix it up for a good, big meal to last them through all their activitys until dinner.
So there's some ideas for you, as many as I could think of. It's good to get some ideas in case the boy and girl don't have anything to do.

SHELBYcrunkpants answered Thursday July 20 2006, 5:38 am: For food you should first ask the parents if they would like any specifics or if any of the kids are allergic to anything. Stick to the simple foods that are fast and easy. Kids arnt patient.
For breakfast you could do cereal, eggs, toast, oatmeal, fruit, poptarts, frozen waffles, yogurt, etc. Juice or milk with it.
For lunch you could do PB&J the classic, grilled cheese, kraft mac&cheese, frozen pizza (never order in when babysitting) a favorite sandwhich that is specially made, etc.
For entertainment you shouldnt worry about it too much because they will probably let you know what they want to do but here are some ideas.
Boys are into action figures, toy cars, play fighting, etc.
Girls are into barbies, doing eachothers hair, painting nails, dressing up, etc.
For all three of you try games outside ONLY in the backyard (never out front or street) hide&seek, tag, catch, swings or slides if they have them, house, etc.
missmad127 answered Wednesday July 19 2006, 9:24 pm: for breakfast you can do eggs, toast, pop tarts, cereal, breakfast bars, french toast, oatmeal, with some juice.
for lunch have a picnic in the back yard or on the floor in the kitchen. make sandwhiches and cut them with cookie cutters so they are in neat shapes. you can do mac and cheese, sandwhiches, order pizza, play waiter with lunch and you can take their order and serve them like they are in a restuarant.
entertainment: anything that will wear them out for the night. sports, games, tag, chase, catch, then when it gets dark they are pretty much ready for bed, if they don't want to play out side there's games, board games, crafts, drawing, and always use your imagination and take them on trips places they've never been maybe you can even be pirates look ing for treasure. lol but whatever you do im sure you'll do good. hope this has helped!!! just remember kids that age always want your attention so give it to them.

sassysara answered Wednesday July 19 2006, 9:09 pm: Ok for meals first ask their mom what she would like them to eat. For example some parents are really picky about sugar intake etc.. If she says whatever then go with cereal and fruit or toast or what they like. Don't make them all different things unless their mom tells you to. They could be trying to see what they can get away with.
As for lunch go with sandwiches, kraft dinner, etc..kid friendly easy stuff.
For entertaining; find out what they like to do and try to incorporate as much as that as possible if the two want to do different things then tell them they can each do one thing they really like for an hour and then trade off. Board games are good, out-doors is good try to stay away from watching too much tv and playing video games most mothers don't like paying you when the tv is doing the babysitting!! lol
If you need any more ideas let me know part of my job is planning recreation for kids.
brunettem51 answered Wednesday July 19 2006, 9:08 pm: Ha, I would like more info on the kids and what they are like but lets see.
Boys like anything with action figers at that age, balloons, video games.
Girls well they are into "fashion" at that age. You could do make up, hair, nails you know girl stuff ;]
Cooking well microwave pizza (lunch) and some fruit in can or plain fruit and some toast and eggs for breakfast... Or just take them out Maybe little snacks. [ brunettem51's advice column | Ask brunettem51 A Question ]
DefinedEyes answered Wednesday July 19 2006, 9:08 pm: Try googling some recipes for
french toast, or toad in the hole, special choclate chip pancakes.
Make sure you have some dolls or coloring books for the girl, and for the boy maybe pop in a movie or bring some of your brothers toys if you have a brother. Like matchbox cars, or go outside and play with them, with a ball, or in the sprinklers :)
