i need help fighting the cravings!

Question Posted Sunday July 16 2006, 4:33 pm

I'm thirteen and I am 5'4", and i weigh 100 lbs. I used to be really thin with a nice, flat stomache, and i only weighed 87 lbs. I think the reason I weigh more now is because this year was kind of rocky so I started eating more and mroe junk food to get my mind off of it. I'm much happier now, but I can't get my body to resist the cravings for junk food 24/7. Please give me advice on how to stop junk food cravings.

I can relate to your dilemma, because I was almost the exact height and weight a year ago. My eating habits weren't the greatest and included a lot of junk food so instead of trying to resist cravings, I simply try to take it out of my diet completely. I'd suggest focusing on eating more fruit, it's still sweet, but the natural sugars are of course tons better for your body than those found in junk foods. Also, try exercising more often thatn you do now if you still want to eat junk food all the time. Maybe join a sports team at your school?

Well in my opinion, your weight sounds perfectly healthy for your height.

Im 5'3" and I weigh 110 pounds.

But, I guess only you know how it actually looks.

To keep junk food off your mind, try to get rid of some of it in your house. Make sure you get lots of varieties of fruits and veggies, and even some healthy "junk food". And only eat when you are hungry, dont just eat food because you are nervous, or bored.

Sometimes if you eat fruit it will get rid of the craving. It has a sugary taste so it helps. And keep junk food out of sight (out of sight, out of mind). Don't have a bag of Doritos and a candybar stashed in your room or you're going to eat it. :)

Also, the more sweets/junk you give your body - the more it's going to want. So cut soda out completely if you can. If you can't, then cut back to one can a day or to diet. I think 100 pounds is a great weight and you should try and be happy with your body no matter what weight you are at. :)

Good luck.

dont talk this the wrong way
but if you are 5'4 and 100
you are underweight...

so maybe get off the junk food and start working out to have muscle weight, cause junk food isnt healthy

First of all you are at a HEALTHY weight for your height, actually probably a little underweight so just eat healthy and exercise regularly. Dont be another teen to fall under the hollywood skinny minny image.

You don't have to completely cut back on junk food just slow down slowly and eat less and less everyday also try exercising more so you loose weight and you can stop eating junk food what you can also do is find something healthy that you love to eat I hope it helps bye

Research shows that most cravings only last for ten minutes. If you can either do something else, such as go outside or grab a great book, or just get a healthy snack - you'll be much better off!

And according to [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) you are underweight. Your BMI is 17, where "normal" is between 18.5 and 24.9, so you could actually stand to gain some weight; but you will be fine where you are.

I would suggest keeping your mind busy when you're experiencing a craving. Instead of running to the kitchen to grab some chips or a cookie; do some pushups, start a conversation with someone on AIM, message or comment someone on Myspace, pick up a book, or play with your dog - something to keep your mind occupied.
