Don't change just because people want you to. And I'm not quoting textbooks here, I'm quoting my life. I'm a musician, too. I'm a pianist, guitarist, saxophonist... you name it, I play it. I'm 15 and female, yet I don't listen to ANY popular music. I just don't like it. I listen to the blues. Muddy Waters, Albert Collins, B.B. King, SRV, Freddie King, Albert King, Eric Clapton, Robert Johnson... they're all my favorites. However, all of my friends listen to rap and/or Christian rock. And I'm just not into that crap. My friends and I are all musicians, but we sort of agree to disagree when it comes to music. They think I'm really weird for playing the blues, but they still support me because they know that I love it and that that's what I would love to do with my life (play organ/piano with a blues band). Anyway, GO FOR IT. I was actually thinking about this today... how can you play the music if it's not something that you really love? If you love country music, then play country music. It's as simple as that. Even though you might think that the world hates country music, there is going to be somebody out there that completely digs what you're putting out. In fact, I had thought that I was the only 15 year old that loved the blues, but then I met all these people online that were my age and listened to the same music. Heck, I even have a friend that just put a CD out... blues, of course. So no matter how much your friends and family drive you nuts with their complaining, there is ALWAYS going to be somebody out there that will love your music. And this is how I see it: it doesn't matter what other people think as long as you're doing what you love most. The sky's the limit.

I've got a lot of different points of views thingys heh. 1) Do what YOU want..but then again..if no one likes it, eh.. 2) there are TONS of people that LOVE country music (me for one!) why do you think they have a GAC channel and suff, they dont have a "pop" or "rock" channel..yeah? 3) dont change you style! its like rapper changing to a old classic blues singer..NO WAY! lol. basically. dont change. countrys great. friends are great. if they dont like country, find a friend that does. hope i helped. <3

My brilliant answer:
Though a lot of people don't like country music, a lot still do. I'm sure if your friends and family will appreciate it and like it more when you play it. If you feel that isn't enough, then adjust it a little. If you do end up adjusting it, do it a very little, yet noticeable ammount, so that you don't lose your style. Otherwise it won't be your music. Play around with different sounds, adding different genres into your country to make a unique sound all your own. Good luck! Hope I helped!

PunkRockFan answered Thursday June 22 2006, 8:21 pm:
I personally hate country but if thats the kind of music you like then play it. I do suggest you branch out and listen to other kinds of music.

Try these bands:

The Ramones
Black Sabbath
ACDC
Led Zepplin
Jimi Hendrix

and then after that see if you still like country the most.

wooow. hey dont go assuming that alot of people dont like country music...cuz more than half of my friends LOVE country.

and since when is music about pleasing others? I thought it was to make yourself happy and to express your self...so if you like country then definitly stick with it and dont go changing your style to please other people.

Hey there! Stick with country. Or wait, are you playing music to please others so they like it? or is it because it is the music you like?

Keep it and stay that way, don't change. Really, I don't mind country, but I like all types of music. Don't feel like you have to change for people to like you or your music, somebody will. Go for it, keep writing your music, and best of luck! Music rocks!
