AskAndy answered Wednesday April 19 2006, 3:46 pm: The fruit contains the seed, and the fruits have the seed inside them, so its a fruit. Vegetables are the actuall seed, like if you put the entire thing in the ground it would grow, with the exseption of coconuts, which is a seed in itself [ AskAndy's advice column | Ask AskAndy A Question ]

CheshireKat answered Wednesday April 19 2006, 2:37 pm: tomatoes, depending on what kind they are, can be counted as either fruits or vegetables.
fruits have seeds, which we usually don't eat, like with peaches (the pit), apples, watermelon, etc.
vegetables have seeds, but they are or part of what we eat, like corn, asparagus (the tips are the seeds i think), peas (they are the seeds ^_^).
technically speaking, the fleshy stuff that grows around seeds is fruit, so from that perspective, vegetables are really fruits... sorry, just bein' smart, not trying to confuse you.
a classic question, heh, that was fun to answer. anybody wanna know which came first: the chicken or the egg? :P
