so, a random question bout sex. i was just wondering, since statistics show that the average teen loses their virginity by the age of 17. well.. is it possible to have sex (when the guy uses a condom) and NOT get pregnant? cuz like, other teens have done it and they havent got pregnant riight? but what im scared of is that my sister had an unplanned pregnancy and she already had a baby. she said she used a condom and i guessed it broke.
questions:
is it common for a condom to break?
can a girl get pregant if a guy uses a condom?
Douchey answered Wednesday March 15 2006, 9:58 pm: Most condoms help prevent 99.9% of pregnancies which is pretty good in my book!! So, to your second question, yes a girl can get pregnant if a guy uses a condom, they can rip especially if they are really thin condoms (Trojan Ultra Thins). Though, they are made for maximum pleasure for the guy, it's not always the best choice for anyone looking for safety. I suggest condoms that have a layer of spermicidal on them, if I'm correct, they help to reduce the number of sperm (or something along those lines).
Is it common for a condom to break? I'm not really sure if that question is capable of an answer. It is POSSIBLE, but I'm not so sure about common. Sorry that I'm not much help in that area, but I do hope this helps a bit.
Vikki27 answered Wednesday March 15 2006, 6:14 pm: Well the good news is that yes it is possible to not get pregnant when the man is wearing a condom.
However, certain methods carry certain contraception percentages. For example, The Pill is 99.9% effective but obviously does not protect against infection or disease. However, condoms carry somewhere between 93% and 98% contraception. Although this is still quite high, it does mean it is still possible to get pregnant while using them. You also need to bear in mind that as they are only made of thin latex, they can break quite easily so most women like to be on The Pill as well, just to be on the safe side.
I wouldn't say it is common for condoms to break but it does happen, especially during particularly 'active' sex, to put it delicately. [ Vikki27's advice column | Ask Vikki27 A Question ]

mn731 answered Tuesday March 14 2006, 12:59 pm: You sound way too young to be asking this---you don't even know the answer!
As for your questions, YES, it is possible for a condom to break. It's only 98% effective if used correctlly.--And YES, a girl can still get pregnant if a guy uses a condom & it breaks. [ mn731's advice column | Ask mn731 A Question ]
alisonmarie answered Tuesday March 14 2006, 12:06 pm: The male condom is 98% effective if used correctly. Each box should come with a set of instructions, and it's very important to read these to make sure both people know how to use them. Let me know if you want more info on that.
Condoms also reduce the risk of transferring infections. Condoms should be used every time sex happens, and the risk of pregnancy is further reduced if they are used with a second form of birth control (like the pill, patch, etc). [ alisonmarie's advice column | Ask alisonmarie A Question ]
Courtney answered Tuesday March 14 2006, 10:31 am: Yes, a girl can get pregnant if a guy uses a condom because condoms can break. That is why you use other precautions besides the condom, such as birth control pills/patch. That's helpful, although it doesn't really protect you from STD'S and AID'S. Also, it decreases the possibility of pregnancy if you were to become sexually active. If you're having sex, you're going to have to worry about these things. You're going to have to worry about condoms, birth control pills/patch, sexually transmitted diseases, and etc. You're going to worry about them. Especially as a teen. That's why when you decide to have sex, you make sure that you're responsible and have taken care of everything. Even go to an adult that YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY CONFIDENT and TRUST to help you to provide you with the protection you need. Their are clenics as well. I'm not saying that you're having sex or anything like that, but I'm saying that condoms aren't a 100% effective. Use things to increase your defense against pregnancy. And NEVER, NEVER, have sex with one condom on top of the other. That'll increase the chances of the condom to tear. NEVER. The only way to make sure that you won't get pregnant if you decide to have sex for a 100% is by maintaining abstinence. Abstinence is the key to not getting pregnant or sexually transmitted diseases. HOPE I WAS SOME HELP. GOOD DAY TO YOU. [ Courtney's advice column | Ask Courtney A Question ]
HollyAnn2282 answered Tuesday March 14 2006, 9:50 am: No, a girl cant get prego with a good condom. Condoms break every once in a while if theres to much friction or there's a hole, but if you ever do get a break and you're scared go to planned parenthood and they will give you the morning after pill. Which is good. And if you still dont feel safe using a condom then at planned parenthood they will give you a year supply of birth control. Its an awesome place! Dont be scared to go there!
Best of luck

kristen22 answered Tuesday March 14 2006, 7:20 am: Yea a girl can get pregnant even if the guy uses a condom, hence forth if it breaks. The safest way to not get pregnant is abstence. But I'm not going to preach that to you. You want to make sure you dont get pregnant so get on birth control and use a condom..or if for whatever reason you dont want to go to a Dr. You can go to like a Walmart or Foodlion grocery store and they have something called Non-Oxyol 9 and its something you stick in your vagina PRIOR to sex and should a condom break, the Non-Oxyol 9 "kills" the sperm on contact. It'll cost ya' about $5 bucks, and that's ALOT cheaper than a baby! And no there is no age limit on buyin it so don't worry about that and it's found on the same isle as the other femine products. Hope this helped! [ kristen22's advice column | Ask kristen22 A Question ]

sizzlinmandolin answered Tuesday March 14 2006, 1:49 am: Condoms come with pretty explicit instructions. Read the instructions. They will tell you exactly how to use a condom. Don't say you already know. A lot of stuff in those instructions, most people don't do. There's some things you can do to prevent it from breaking and decrease your chances of getting pregnant even more. Condoms are 100% effective with perfect use. It's "impossible" to use them perfectly every time, but the more you know about them the safer you will be, so read those instructions! Using more than one birth control method also decreases the chance of getting pregnant. The calender method, spermicide, sponges, and all kinds of other forms of birth control are as available to you as condoms. Read up on birth control and you'll be quite protected. Read about how it and your body works. There's always the day after pill too in case of an accident. If a condom breaks I think that you can usually tell. The website www.coolnurse.com will be able to help you a lot. Good luck! [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]
vermillion26 answered Monday March 13 2006, 11:58 pm: There is about a 3% chance that the condom will break (they are only about 97% effective) everytime you have sex. You can get pregnant even if you're using a condom, like I said, condoms are not 100% effective. Its better if you use spermicides or something in addition to a condom so that you have a backup form of defense. Don't use two condoms or a male and female one. The friction will increase the chances of them breaking. Hope I helped.
