what will happen if i download limewire, download 10 songs or so and then uninstall it. then just install it whenever i need it.

Limewire seriously never causes any viruses like all the other smart people said. It`ll be such a hassel to download 10 songs, delete, and then install it again. What`s the point of downloading 1O songs when your going to have to uninstall it anyways? I say just stick with it. And just to be safe, maybe download a really good virus scanner/pop-up blocker.

Forget LimeWire. Use WinMX, the p2p that the RIAA tried to kill but couldn't. They sent letters, shut down the parent company, and within 48 hours a fix had been worked out that allowed the network to work as well or better than it ever had. Not as pretty as LimeWire, and it requires basic computer literacy, but that's a small price to pay.

In addition to AntiVir and Ad-Aware, I recommend Spybot Search & Destroy ([Link](Mouse over link to see full location)) and SpywareBlaster ([Link](Mouse over link to see full location)). Update them OFTEN, and ALWAYS right before you download.

Good luck!

Limewire is awesome and it doesn't carry any viruses at all. It's really good and fast so no worries. Also Ares is really good.

Limewire doesn't carry any viruses. I've had it forever, and it works fine. And you get free songs :)

Limewire doesn't cause viruses. the songs you download might have viruses though. If you have a regularly updated virus scanner, you should be alright. Bottom line, if you're so concerned about getting viruses, don't use viruses.

Asc answered Tuesday February 14 2006, 9:26 pm:
Having it installed won't cause problems. What you have to do is be careful what you download. DO NOT download .wmv or .asx formats; DO NOT download files which are the wrong size (mp3 usually comes out to around one to two megabytes per minute); DO NOT download files from a computer which returns too many or many very similar results.

Install antivir ([Link](Mouse over link to see full location)), adaware ([Link](Mouse over link to see full location)) and the zonelabs firewall ([Link](Mouse over link to see full location)). They all have a free personal version for download.

As for crashes, if worst comes to worst, just reinstall the system software. Backing up important files might be a good idea.
