I just moved into a new house and my room is light pink and green. I am not into that at all, not one bit. But my parents won't let me paint over it. I'm not gothic; but my favourite color is black, i wear black all the time, i'm into heavy metal, my favorite band is Lamb of God and Insane Clown Posse. I like stars and hearts. I would probably be more into the colours if they were alot darker, but i can't paint! I asked if i could get a black stripe near the top but our painters' hand isnt steady enough, but I can paint some black into it, but where? Not the whole thing so what can i do? What can i do that will make my room alot less girly and young? Please help! I hate these light baby colors!

Ask your parents if they'll go for another color (black can kill a room). I suggest to paint your room a navy blue and have black furniture. Many other colors go well with black furiture too, as long as they are not too light or too dark. If your favorite color (black) works as an accent instead of a theme, it can be even better looking.
Or maybe you could make star and heart stencils and cover at least 1 wall with black and blue (or color of your choice) in hearts and stars. [ honu22's advice column | Ask honu22 A Question ]

Why not try some different shades of red? Don't forget that you're room isn't only made up of the colors that are painted on your wall either though. You can express yourself in other ways too, if you find a color you and your parents agree on, you can express yourself by hanging things around your room that you like, that way it's a bit of both what you like, and what your parents like. cynicalladvice answered Wednesday January 25 2006, 11:25 pm: well, you can paint it darker colors that AREN'T black, try a nice red or blue, also, you can get some old black clothes/anything fabric-y stuff from a thrift store and drape it on the walls, and get some black/colored lightbulbs to make it seem darker.
Or just COMPLETELY cover the walls/celing with posters of bands you like.

Anyways, I would try to get some posters to cover over the walls. Also, try and be creative, maybe put those glow in the dark starts and planets everywhere...
Since you can put black somewhere, maybe just do one wall to give it more of a "you" feel... ya know? Or, you could always do stripes..
xOHunni-helpinOx answered Tuesday January 24 2006, 4:16 am: get some stencils of stars/hearts etc.
or use black furniture and perhaps see if you can persuade your parents to let you paint you skirting boards/runners black to break down the girliness. [ xOHunni-helpinOx's advice column | Ask xOHunni-helpinOx A Question ]
sylverwolff answered Tuesday January 24 2006, 12:11 am: the posters Idea is really good, also I saw on trading spaces once that you can staple fabric to the walls, you could cover the whole wall or just a part, and you could use black, where as black paint and wallpaper is frowned upon.... Good luck, I hope you can come up with something you like [ sylverwolff's advice column | Ask sylverwolff A Question ]
Gabriel answered Monday January 23 2006, 11:55 pm: Perhaps some darker purples and green would match nicely in your room. It's a bit hard for me to say what will look good without seeing the room but if you're REALLY serious about it (and you have the cash to do so) you can do what I will be doing to my own room soon. All of my furniture, walls, carpet, running boards, EVERYTHING will be black, white or a shade of grey. This will give the room the image of a black and white photograph. Once this is accomplished place a few "shock" pieces in there. I plan on using a red throw pillow on the bed, and a flowering plant in the corner for this. Not only will this get rid of your oh-so-hated baby colors, but it will make anything that HAS color in the room seem much more colorful and eye-catching. DeeSireDiOr answered Monday January 23 2006, 11:44 pm: Hey
Why don't you just buy wall paper!? Pick one that you like and put it up. I'm sure it will look great!
You could also try putting up a lot of posters all around your room to cover your walls as much as possible.
