That said, relaxation techniques and self-hypnosis are one good place to start. Begin by taking three deep slow breaths. Then tense and relax each muscle group, beginning with the feet and working your way up to the scalp. Take it slow. Imagine yourself in a beautiful, safe, relaxing place.
If you can practice that every night, you should be able to get pretty good at it. Try it when your phobia is triggered; it should help.
That's a VERY quick introduction, and there are more advanced techniques, but you really should talk to a professional for more help. There are a number of treatment options that they can offer you. Remember, you don't have to live your life in fear.
FunnyCide answered Wednesday August 17 2005, 11:23 am: The best way to overcome any phobia (of spiders, heights, milk, whatever) is to hit it straight in the head. Do alot of research about your phobia, for instance, if you're afraid of spiders, research the spiders in your area to see which ones are poisonous and which ones aren't. Find out which ones eat what and how they make their webs. In fact, most extremely deadly spiders don't even live in America. Perhaps you live in England? There aren't alot of deadly spiders there either. Probably the most poisonous spider in either place is the Black Widow or the Brown Recluse. You never see these spiders because they hide away. Find out everything you can about your phobia, and how other people overcame it. Then, put it to the test. If you're afraid of spiders, start off slow. Go to the zoo and look at the spiders. Then try and find a common house spider at your home or in your garden, and just be around it. Then, once you're brave enough, try and pick it up. Follow the same method for any phobia.

If you are scared of spiders for example, you are suppose to expose yourself to them, hold them and see how there really isn't anything to be scared of.
