Question Posted Wednesday August 17 2005, 10:33 am
Ok, so it is the first day of school today and I didn't get to go because i got my wisdom teeth out on monday and so now i am swelled up very big and i can not even close my mouth. i was wondering how to make the swelling go down, and do not say ice because the doctor told me no ice after the first day. i know pretty strange huh? well i really want to go to school tomorrow and see all my friends and meet my teachers. so any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance :D
Additional info, added Wednesday August 17 2005, 2:07 pm: the doctor said that the third day of my surgery was the swelling peaking day...that is today and if i use the ice it will get worse...i used salt water and im taking 4 pills a day 4 times a day for pain and infection so i shouldn't get infected or sick. Also if you do no show up on the first 2 days of school then they drop you completely, so i have to go 2morrow.. Want to answer more questions in the Health & Fitness category? Azngangsta answered Wednesday August 17 2005, 1:19 pm: Well, my dentist said to use ice. It would seem strange that a docter said not to put ice on it... Also, I suggest that you stay out of school for the next week or week and a half, because it'll hurt too much, and the medicine (at least mine) will get you dizzy. Ice is the bet way to keep the swelling down. Hope you feel better! [ Azngangsta's advice column | Ask Azngangsta A Question ]

MummuM answered Wednesday August 17 2005, 12:36 pm: He said not to put ice on after the first day? Don't listen to him. Use the ice. When I got my wisdom teeth out I was out of school for a week. It depends on how you feel though. If you feel ready to go back to school to see your teachers and classmates, go. Did the doctor gives you pills to help you with your wisdom teeth? If so, make sure you take them. They help a lot. Also, use the ice. The ice will make a big difference. Don't open your mouth wide, because it'll make the swelling worse. Just relax in bed and have some milkshakes. There's nothing you can do to speed up the process. Just take it easy for now.

oneandonly345 answered Wednesday August 17 2005, 11:14 am: well that is really really stupid. why no ice? i think you should call and ask him why because when my sister got it done she was supposed to put ice on for a week. so i would most deff. call him and ask him why you cant put ice on it .. and if that means no 'icey' packs.. you know the ones that stay cold for 12 hours.
you can take motrin .. every 4 hours, and that will take down the pain and swelling.
