gessyka answered Saturday August 13 2005, 7:17 am: "Going out" is like a relationship. Boyfriend/Girlfriend.. that stuff.
Hooking up is just getting somebody to make out with or fool around with. Not someone whose your actual girlfriend or boyfriend. [ gessyka's advice column | Ask gessyka A Question ]
MummuM answered Friday August 12 2005, 4:03 pm: Going out with someone means that you're boyfriend and girlfriend. You guys are together and you are a couple. Hooking up is just a one night thing. Where you don't have feelings for eachother but you mess around.

icey0990 answered Friday August 12 2005, 11:43 am: when your going out with someone its a relationship..your sticking to that one person, and the two people like each other
when your hooking up..its like a little "session"..just kissing someone..sometimes the two people have no feelings for each others..sometimes one person has feelings and the other doesnt...hooking up is just doing stuff with a person for the fun of it. (it could be just kissing...it could go further than that) with hooking up, there is no commitment like there is in a relationship..so the two people hooking up could just hookup for one night and its over..they could continie to hookup while hooking up with more people on the side
MrNature answered Friday August 12 2005, 5:23 am: Going out is as I understand a formal anouncement of a realtionship, wheras hooking up comes from the verb to "Hook" or as I know it the practice of "hooking" by yes you have guessed it "hookers". So back when I was hooking it usually meant that some exchange of money had to be exchanged, depending on the services provided and time taken to provide such services. However nowadays with the kids today the fiscal exchange is not so important and I beleive that todays equivalent of the hooking phrase would be "pimpin my Ho's", So that then leads me to the conclusion that in say 10 years time it will not be unusuall to hear the equivalent of say the olsen twins exclaiming on some day time soap that "can they go out as there is a cute boy they want to meet and they were looking foreward to Pimpin their ass's down the park"
I hope that brings a historical edge to the discussion [ MrNature's advice column | Ask MrNature A Question ]
congleton009 answered Friday August 12 2005, 4:24 am: i think the difference between going out with someone and hooking up with someone is that when you go out with someone you have a serious relationship and call eachother boyfriend and girlfriend.... but hooking up is just messing around every once in a while but no relationship [ congleton009's advice column | Ask congleton009 A Question ]
SilentOne answered Friday August 12 2005, 3:13 am: Going out is usually someone you already know, and you've arranged in advance to go out with them. You might meet them somewhere or they might pick you up from your house.
Hooking up with someone is something I would see as between strangers. Usually people who you "hook up" with aren't very permanent, but they can be sometimes, if you happen to meet someone genuinely nice. As other people have said, "hooking up" is usually a single night thing.
