whats the difference between going out with someone and hooking up with someone? _(link)

i think the difference between going out with someone and hooking up with someone is that when you go out with someone you have a serious relationship and call eachother boyfriend and girlfriend.... but hooking up is just messing around every once in a while but no relationship
