I definately recommend pads for your menstrual cycle. Pads can be worn during light days, heavy days, and even simple discharge days. Tampons can only be worn during your actual period or your risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome increases dramatically. You also do not need to worry about waking in the middle of the night to change your pad if you're not a heavy bleeder; however, with tampons they MUST be changed every 6 - 8 hours or bacteria will multiply so quickly it can cause some severe problems.
Symptoms of TSS include high fever, vomiting or diarrhea, severe muscle aches, a feeling of extreme weakness or dizziness, and a rash that looks like a sunburn. If you ever have these symptoms while wearing a tampon, remove it and tell an adult immediately. Have someone take you to the nearest emergency room as soon as possible.
When I tried tampons I ended up passing out over and over again within seconds of insertion. My body was obviously screaming at me that something was terribly wrong although nothing was painful at all. I often wonder if some other women have experienced this and thought it was normal because it definately is not okay to experience. I really believe it dramatically shocked my body and that's why I passed out.
My first gynecologist I had actually told me that tampons increased my risk of cancer. My mother had cancer before in her vagina area and was told to NEVER wear tampons again because if there is any cancerous cells in there it will irritate them and cause them to begin multiplying if they aren't already. My mother was also told to tell her female children this too since we are higher risk for that sort of cancer. I asked my first gynecologist about it and he definately recommended not using tampons because of the increase cancer risk.
The longer you leave a tampon in, the higher risk of TSS you are taking. Bacteria begin to grow in the warm, moist environment of your vagina. These bacteria can grow within the tampon, enter the body from inside the vagina, then invade the bloodstream, releasing toxins that can cause a very severe, life-threatening illness.
Tampons also pull a bit of your vaginal lining out when being removed, believe it or not. This is why many women who use tampons aren't as sensitive as they once were inside of their vaginas and why many tampon-users suffer from yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis. The tampon also can leave particles behind from it, causing bacteria and yeast to grow on it. Another case is that women are frequently needing to purchase personal lubricant for sexual activities because their bodies have stopped producing enough natural lubricant to engage in such activities without problems.
The ripping of your flesh and leaving particles of material behind cannot be avoided when using tampons and could very well be why you experience discomfort with removal. I would be big money on that being the reason it is painful to remove tampons from your body. This will not go away until you become somewhat desensitized down there--and what woman truly wants that?! Please consider switching products for your own health and safety.
Here are some good websites about why women should stay clear of tampon-usage. Theses sites are pretty darn interesting:

As a very last note, you may want to check out menstrual cups. Here is a link to a question about some and my answer is pretty thorough when explaining them:

It won't hurt! But it does take practice to not be worried and get it right. You may want to ask your mom for advice. ]

i JUST started my period too! (actually i finished yesterday) and i was scared to use tampons too! but i wanted to go to a swim party and go to an amusement park w/a water park! so i sugest getting tampax slimfits. i got those and i like them. (if that makes any sense) they are plastic and they go in easily. i was afraid to use them too but the slimfits come w/ a guide to show you how to use them. also if you go to www.beinggirl.com they tell you how to use them and have lots of sugestions. they also tell you the best brands too. i don't think your too young because i'm 13 and i used them too! it doesn't hurt at all either. it feels a little funny but thats just from it being the first time after a while you wont notice! hope i helped
xox ]
it will hurt if your using jumbo's or something.. you have to use jrs. and then they won't hurt.. i don't think you hsould be scared.. you should be nervous.. btu make sure your not tense when you put it in or else it will hurt.. hope i helped if you need anything else let me no ]
hun, if you think about it, it WILL hurt. just think about something else while youre putting it in... lol...
like for example, think about a really sexy guy or your favorite song...
does that help? ]
you shouldnt be scared to use a tampon. and it shouldnt hurt. use tampax pearl ♥ Brittany ]
I'm 13 too. And i just started using them recently. The first few I put in hurt so i just took them out. I got this really easy kind to put in and since then its been really really easy. If it hurts just take it out and try a different kind. Youll find something that works ]
no, it shouldnt hurt, well for your first time, it might a little, but Playtext* is a great starters brand. its what i used. and its suggested. it should not hurt, or you are putting it in a wrong position. try sitting in a comfortable postion, or is you have a mom, and you are really outgoing, you can ask her how to do it.
I would keep my mind off having a tampon on, but remember
wear it 7-8 hours or you cna get TSS (toxic shock syndrum) but its really rare. and find out how many grams (reqular 6-9, super 9-12, Super + 12-15) for a starter id use regular then in you think you need a better one, try the next, GET A DEORDENT// SCENTED ONE! ]
well everyone is scared there first time! if its going to be your first time here is some pointers: you would probally want to use a plastic aplicator because cardboard will hurt if your not experienced. "platex slimfits" would be my recommendation. and if you have like "personal lubricant" you should put it on the tip and the first tube (it will make it go in easier, its great for the first few times). You should stop backing out of doing it! if you just maybe want to take one with you and then experiment a little so your more comfortable..that would work to. well i hope i helped you! if you ever need help or just some advice, leave one in my inbox!
GOOD LUCK!

it doesn't hurt at all, except some times if you take it out dry... it may hurt a bit. but that bearly ever happens (to me atleast) but don't worry, just relax, and do it! lol ]
Hi sweetie, I was thinking the EXACT same thing when I was thirteen. Don't worry though. If you're really wanting to use tampons, first, have you or your mom buy you a box of the slimmer ones. The ones I found most useful were Tampax Satin Teen. Before trying to use one, look at the little pamphlet that comes with the box; it tells you how to insert the tampon. Tampons are not intended to hurt and don't when inserted correctly. ]
Aw dont worry.. everyone gets scared the first time. But no it does not hurt. Its acually comftrable if you put it in right. But you'll get it in. You will be able to get it back out because there is a string on the bottom. And yes you can do it! ]
Tampons are nothing to be scared of, but if you think it's going to hurt, you should buy some of those "slim fit" ones. They're more narrow than normal ones and are really good for people who aren't used to using tampons. It's not any big deal to put them in, just make sure you get it in all the way. ]
