well i benn in highschool for 2 years and the perfect thing to say if there is a moment of silence is ill talk tou ja latter because whatever you say can make them lagh soo just step away from it and play cool and they will think that you have something else to do trust me it works i did that and OMG you wont belive how it works dont worry it will be alright GOod LucK ]
They're just the same as any people. Just be random. It makes things so much spontaneous and attracts a cool crowd of people. =D ]
WELL. Ask them about themselves because nobody likes to hear you ramble on about yourself (not that you do). But if you cant think of anything to ask or say to them..here you go::
What kind of music they listen to
What are their favorite stores
What they did over summer vacation
What kind of cars they like
Etc. Etc.

Dont worry cause i bet alot of other people feel that way too .You could ask them what kind of music, movies , shows.Or what they did in the summer. Even make fun of goofy teachers lol. I hoped i helped im me if needed Sportychicc9393 ]
complements on their clothing, school supplies (lol) talk about what subject your in. if your starting at a school in the same area as your middle school/ jr. high then your bound to run into people you know. if you had summer reading, ask them about that. or ask about their schedule, see what classes you have in common. it also helps to join clubs, sports, things like that. ]
The thing about small talk is that it is almost always meaningless. Thus you really shouldn't worry about talking about something inherently interesting-- rather you should focus on just talking it up a bit until you know other people better. A surefire way to keep yourself away from those awkward silences is to talk about the other person. Ask questions-- about the other person. Make THEM talk, and when they answer the question, try to continue the subject as a piece of conversation. ]
