cheerPrincess11 answered Tuesday August 2 2005, 8:40 am: Walking can help but you have to walk a little bit farther then if you were running. Running is what works for varius reasons 1) you moving different parts of your body stengthening muscles burning fat 2) when you run you tend to sweat and sweat is a good way to burn off fat and I am sure there are pros and cons to walking to. I suggest maybe take a nightly jog around the neighbor hood go at your own pace, bring a water bottle, and take brakes when you need them. I am sure results will come to you quick if you try hard enough.
I hope I helped

Running burns about 450 cals per hour, where walking only burns about 175 per hour. And of course you're not going to do it for an hour straight. Basically walking for a half hour burns about the same amount of cals as running for like 10 minutes. I guess it just depends on how intense you want your workout to be. Hope this helps!

AshNicole...x3 answered Monday August 1 2005, 3:44 am: they are both about the same they both make you lose weight but running makes u lose it faster so if u want to lose the weight faster run but if not walk!
So, walking burns more actual fat, but takes more time than running.
With running: "you're burning mostly sugar, or carbohydrates, which is how your body gives you fast energy in bursts"
With walking: "it gives your metabolism time to switch from burning carbohydrates to burning fat."
I personally think that walking is better, if you have the time. Make sure to walk briskly and swing your arms (have you seen power-walkers?) so that you get your heart pumping.
Running is harder on your joints too, and: "The risk of injury -- whether shin splints or knee injuries or back pain -- is directly proportional to the intensity of exercise."
But you will still have people who simply enjoy running more. So it's a personal choice.
Try them both. One day, run for an hour, and the next day, walk briskly for an hour. See which one is more fun or more suited to your style. Whichever one is the one you will actually STICK TO, is the one you should do. :-) [ DangerWench's advice column | Ask DangerWench A Question ]

xpianogirl89x answered Sunday July 31 2005, 1:48 pm: Running or walking a lot either way is a way to lose weight. Running has it's benefits because you'll lose the weight faster. Walking though is just as good for you. You also burn the same amount of calories if you walk a mile or you run a mile. So yeah if you want to walk that's fine. Good luck!
DrJenny answered Sunday July 31 2005, 1:44 pm: Any form of excercise which stimulates your cardiovascular system,ie, your heart and lung's , sustained over a regular period, will enable you to lose weight. This includes walking, PROVIDED it is brisk and causes your heart to pump a little faster.
If you are unused to excercise build your time up gradually week by week, particularly if you know you are overweight. [ DrJenny's advice column | Ask DrJenny A Question ]
ncblondie answered Sunday July 31 2005, 1:37 pm: You can lose weight walking. It just doesn't burn calories as fast as running. Recent studies have shown that walking is actually better for you since there's less stress on the knee joints. [ ncblondie's advice column | Ask ncblondie A Question ]
