i'm 13 and i'm only 5'1. i'm very self-conscious about my height so i measure myself everyday. why is it that when i wake up i'd grow half to a full inch from the night before when i measured but at the end of the day i'd measure myself again and it said that i shrunk again? this happens almost every morning, when will i stop increasing an inch and then losing an inch by the end of the day? how can i prevent it? thank u

hailebop answered Sunday May 1 2005, 10:42 am: A watched pot never boils, as they say. Measuring yourself every day won't make you grow any faster. You grow gradually, so even when you are growing, you won't notice a difference if you measure yourself every day, as most of the difference will just be because of the way you are standing (you appear shorter in the evenings because you've been standing for a day, and so don't stand as tall, whereas after you've had a good nights sleep you are relaxed and your body is stretched out).
I'm 19 now, and I've been 5'1 since I was 12 or so. Perhaps you will have another growth spurt, but perhaps you won't. You really do need to just learn to love your body as it is, however you turn out in the end. The first step towards accepting yourself as you are is to stop obsessing about your height - that means no more constant measuring. All the best. But it is because when you walk, stand, run, ect. all the weight is like pushed downward or something like that so that is why you shrink like 1/2 an inch, then when you sleep your body becomes streched out so you grow
kleokriesel answered Saturday April 30 2005, 9:49 pm: That's completely normal and happens to everyone. What you can do to decrease how much height you lose during the day is to take calcium supplements (talk to your doctor about this), do posture excercises (again, talk to your doctor or a chiropractor), and use a wheeling backpack rather than one on your back.
Berri answered Saturday April 30 2005, 9:07 pm: It's because when you sleep, fluid builds up between each of your vertebrae, and it makes you gain about an inch. During the day, the fluid gets squeezed back out in a sense when you're walking and moving around, and so you lose the inch again. Don't worry about it. It happens to everyone, and there's no way of preventing it. It's normal. And don't worry about your height. People grow very very slowly, and you're probably not even gonna' notice any difference in it if you measure every day. [ Berri's advice column | Ask Berri A Question ]
JupiterNike answered Saturday April 30 2005, 7:50 pm: This happens because while you are sleeping your bones relax and your spine straightens to full length. It dosn't really change your actuall hight, nor do you shrink during the day- your bones just stretch out during the night while you sleep. So don't worry about that, you can't do anything about it.
Also, don't worry about your hight- I'm 15 and only 5' even. So I got two years on you, yet you still have an inch on me. I'm sure by the time your my age you'll have about 4 inches on me... I think I stopped growing...:-/ LOL hope that helped. [ JupiterNike's advice column | Ask JupiterNike A Question ]
freexasxthexwind answered Saturday April 30 2005, 7:47 pm: I'm 17 and I'm 5'1. I haven't grown since I was 13. It's cool to be little! Youre probably cheating yourself on the measuring thing and you probably stand different. But don't worry! 5'2 is average height for girls. And youve still got time to grow. :) [ freexasxthexwind's advice column | Ask freexasxthexwind A Question ]

You are still going to grow.you aren't even really short.Would you rather be tall and look down on people or be short and look up?And when you get a boyfriend or whatever your preference is he will probraly be taller than you and boys bigger than us girls are a good thing!
