Prom dress

Question Posted Tuesday March 8 2005, 4:14 pm

My family is extremely well off money wise. And so are the kids that go to my high school but my family kind of has more money then most of the people in our neighborhood.

Well, I've been talking to a few girls at school about our prom dresses and theirs are around 200-500 dollars. Well, I found the perfect dress but it's 1,500 dollars. I'm supposed to go buy it this weekend but there's a problem. It's not that we can't afford the dress, because we can and my parents think that it's a good amount to pay for it. It's that I don't want to be the only girl there that paid over a thousand dollars for a Prom dress. I don't want people to talk about it or anything.

Should I get the dress even though it's 3 or 4 times more than what everyone else is going to pay for theirs?

Well, I would buy it anyway honestly. It doesn't matter how much it costs, as long as you like it, and if you can afford it, what's the big deal? Yeah, you might intimidate some people, but just don't brag about it. I know how you feel.

I think that the answer is clear .. Get it, if you have the money to get it then get it .. I mean it's not like your going around telling everyone how much the dress is .. I'd go for it ..

It's YOUR prom night. But remember, you are only going to be wearing this dress once in your entire life. And who needs to know how much it cost? If they ask, tell them the price "slipped" your mind.

If you think it'll make you uncomfortable I wouldn't do it. Perhaps you can find a similiar dress for less (or the same dress used). Then you could tell your family that you bought your "perfect dress" (if they haven't seen it) and do something with the left-over money that you really feel is right like donate it to a shelter or buy dresses for other girls who wouldn't be able to go to the prom otherwise.

Hi Sweetie,
Enjoy life... enjoy what you have... don't go through life having a craving for something you can obtain. You have money? Good for you! You want the dress??? You can afford it??? People will gossip??? Yes, yes, yes. Are yu going to live forever??? No. Sweetie, just enjoy what you have. I mean, really live it. And if people DO talk about it then whatever. It's just a fact. It's a dress... it's pricey... but you'll be happy.... and you can afford it. Buy it. For those people that CAN'T get what they want.... you have the privilage to have what you want. Take advantage of that. Don't let ANYBODY ruin it for you. Honestly, I'd give you the same advice if you had asked me if wearing a dress made of rags would be OK ...if it made you happy then yea.
Well have fun at the prom. I'm sure you'll be the prettiest girl (because you're happy) with the prettiest dress (because its what you wanted). Take care. ~Blessed Be...

YES!!! who cares what they think, its YOUR dress and they are just jealous and why should you have to settle for a different dress just because of the price

I think that if you really like the dress, which it seems like you do, then go for it. It's nobody else's business how much you paid and if they asked, you don't have to answer. Just say it was at a good price. I mean at least you're gonna look good right? =)

dont worry about what other people say .. the prom is supposed to be the most memorable night of high school dont let a little bit of talk ruin your night. If you really like the dress then get it ecspessially if its perfect =) no one will know how much you paid for it if you dont tell them and if they do start to get a little envious just say you got it on sale if it makes you feel out of place .. hope i helped rate me please <3`

if it's your perfect prom dress and your parents are willing to pay for it, i would go for it. if your worried about what other people will say when they found out how much you payed for it, don't tell them. if they ask you, change the subject or something.
