If you took a rat on vacation with you, but kept her in one of those mini cAges, would that be too stressing for the animal?? (i'd keep food, water, and toys in it)

selectopaque answered Monday December 13 2004, 1:18 pm: You need to get your rat familiar with the environment before you attempt to do this. He could get pretty darned scared if suddenly his entire world changes. That's what he would think if you suddenly changed his cage and then took his cage to a new place. So, yes, your rat will get stressed if you do it suddenly.
If you take moops advice and get him familiar with the new cage first, then he should be ok. Make sure you put familiar toys, and his normal food and water dishes in the new cage. [ selectopaque's advice column | Ask selectopaque A Question ]

Moop answered Friday December 10 2004, 10:21 pm: if you do end up taking it along in a seperate small cage, make sure you have it get totally used to its new "crib" in the proceeding weeks. kind of phase in the new cage and give the rat treats when he's put in the new cage - so as to have him associate the new cage with food = happiness. Karen answered Friday December 10 2004, 7:23 pm: I think this idea of yours might not be the greatest! I think you should have a friend or family member watch it while you're on vacation! I'm sure your rat would be alright but you wouldn't want to take any chances! Mayeb you can research this? Hope I helped :)
