much love!

dreamingkat answered Monday December 6 2004, 11:16 pm: OK. The most important thing is that you relax. It will probably not be dark when you get the MRI. Since they are only scanning your brain, you will probably not even slide all the way into the tube.
The hardest part of getting an MRI is holding still. I recommend finding something something that you can repeat to calm yourself. My mother is Catholic, and she repeats the hail mary prayer. I know lots of geeks that prefer the Dune fear mantra. You could choose a favorite (shortish) poem, or a favorite song that you know all the words to. Just something to help keep your mind occupied.

What you do is lay on a table, then the table moves slowly (like a treadmill) forward into a tunnel-like capsule. They then take images of whatever part of your body they are examining (in this case, your head). It can either be very short, or a few hours. Sometimes the doctors provide a movie for you to watch during it. MRI's are not scary, but they are very loud, because in the tunnel, magnets are banging together (not against your body; it doesn't hurt at all) to capture images of your body tissue. I suggest, if the doctors allow you, to listen to music on your headphones to drown out some of the sound. You must stay still though, otherwise the pictures will turn out blurry. If you are nervous, and if you are Catholic or something like that, you can frazzle your nerves by saying prayers or the rosary. Don't worry, everything will go fine. Hopefully this helped, a little :) ~*Annie*~ [ ~*Annie*~'s advice column | Ask ~*Annie*~ A Question ]

An mri is the use of a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer to produce electronic images of specific atoms and molecular structures in solids, especially human cells, tissues, and organs.please be strong and go through it you have support from your parents which im sure they are loving. Its a scary though but be strong.remember that you have a friend :) i'll pray for you.

kittygurl90 answered Sunday December 5 2004, 8:25 pm: Ok MRI's aren't scary its like a x-ray but you lay on a table and you go into a tunnel thing and it takes pictures of what ever you are getting checked out...i had to get one for my back..but anyways..i suggest laying still or otherwise they will give you a shot and put you a sleep for a lil bit while you get scanned. Hope i helped and good luck. [ kittygurl90's advice column | Ask kittygurl90 A Question ]
Full_o_suga answered Sunday December 5 2004, 1:28 pm: you can watch movies during it. You just lay flat in a tube for like 2 hours or something. It's not that bad, you could try sleeping or something. [ Full_o_suga's advice column | Ask Full_o_suga A Question ]

cutebrunette answered Sunday December 5 2004, 11:19 am: An MRI can be scary at first. it doesn`t really hurt. But that depends what you are getting an MRI done 4. It looks like a big tube (its metal) that you go into.
aNgeLxfOrEvEr answered Sunday December 5 2004, 10:05 am: MRI means "magnetic resonance imaging" and the exact definition of it is "The use of a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer to produce electronic images of specific atoms and molecular structures in solids, especially human cells, tissues, and organs." I think it will just take pictures of your head, to see what's going on. I know someone who got an MRI, and they said it wasn't that bad. So, don't worry! :) [ aNgeLxfOrEvEr's advice column | Ask aNgeLxfOrEvEr A Question ]

Alin75 answered Sunday December 5 2004, 7:23 am: I really dont think you have anything to be afraid of. Scans like this are always completely painless. The only requirement on you is not to move around.
As for the look of it, Im not sure. Ive had a brain scan once, but it was for an injury to the head during a sport (no idea how many different types of scans there are). However, the process should be the same. You lie down and they put this machince thing around your head (or slide you under). The thing makes a bit of noise and thats it. Absolutely nothing to even be nervous about. [ Alin75's advice column | Ask Alin75 A Question ]
