broken phone

Question Posted Thursday October 7 2004, 7:50 pm

My friend katie and lisa and this other girl carly, were waiting after practice for their rides and carly had Katies cell phone and she threw it on lisa to get her to pay attention. Since Lisa wasn't paying attention, she didn't catch it, so it bounced off her stomach and hit the ground and it kinda broke, some pieces came off and the front is all messed up. Carly acted liek it was nothing, and didn't really apologize. My questions are:
1. Do you think Carly should pay a small price to get it fixed or for consulation? Or have her apologize.
2. If so, how should katie approach her and ask for either money or an apology?

Thanks

1. Definitely, it was her fault!
2. Katie should say "Look, you broke my phone, and now I feel that you really owe me the money and an apology."

GOOD LUCK ♥

Yes, Carly should definitely apologize and possibly even pay for damages. It isn't her property so she shouldn't have thrown it.

Well, to answer your first question, yes, Carly should pay a price to repair the cell phone and she isnt really a good friend if she didnt offer to in the first place. And second, Kate should just go up to Carly and say something along the lines of, "well, you sort of broke my cell phone, and I was wondering if maybe you could pay to repair it." If this dosent work, I am out of advice. But, to me, Carly dosent seem to be a very good friend. Hope I helped

I would have Katie's parents handle this one. They prolly paid for the phone in the first place, and they might not want to pay for the damages, espescially when it wasnt their daughters fault. Katie definately shouldnt have to confront Carly about the money...no offense, but she has no authority..Carly could easily blow her off. But if Katies parents contact Carly's parents, Im sure they could negotiate something.

Yes Carly should have to pay! If it we're for her it wouldn't have happened. She should have offered in the firstplace. But since she didn't, Katie should just go up to her and be like "Hey my cellphone is broken now and I really need it fixed can you pay for a new one for me?" Hopefully, she'll be cool and say yes. If she doesn't my next bet is that she'll blame it on Lisa. Either way, if she doesn't own up to it push it aside. A cell phone doesn't need to cause a fight between you and ur firend.

Hope i helped! Tell me how it went!

1. She definately should pay for it and aoplogize. She is the one that broke it and everything..

2. Just have Katie talk about it and go up to her and be like "I need a new phone now, and since you broke mine, it would be right for you to pay for it" I think Carly just acted like she didn't care because she didn't want to show that she was sorry or something. But idk, maybe she just didn't care..

Good luck!

Katie should definetly ask for money and a very sincere apology. As much as its hard to ask money off of friends, Carly basically took money away from Katie by throwing the cell phone on the ground.

well what the hell was she thinking? she should totally pay and apologize! that wasnt her phone and she did it and still didnt apologize. katie needs to tell her that shes really mad and her phone is broken and she think she should pay and that shed really like an apology bc its not working very well or something ... if shes too shy then have her friend tell carly how mad she is! and make it seem really bad. that really sucks! tell her i said sorry about that! i hope i helped! -kayla

If she doesn't care that's showing disrespect to Katie. If she is a good friend, she should offer to pay for it or -at least- give an apology.
If Katie just puts up with this behavior it sends out a weak message.
I used to have an MP3 player and I lent it to a friend who then got it confiscated in school, and she didn't care. I kept on telling her she needed to get it back, but she kept telling me, "I'm really not feeling good." or some other excuse. I lied to my parents about it because I didn't want her to feel uncomfortable. It took her so long that the security guard lost it, but now I think she got it back and lied to me and just used me. I regret that so much, and I handled the situation horribly.
Never let anyone walk on you or your friends!

I think Carly needs to buy Katie a new cellphone. From what you're saying, Carly threw it at Lisa, and Lisa wasn't even paying attention. Pretty pointless if you ask me. Katie should tell her that she shouldn't have even thrown her cell phone in the first place. I think she should atleast buy her a new phone. Phones are only like 20 bucks anyway.

Carly should have to pay for it, because it was her fault it broke. It was stupid to throw a delicate thing like a cell phone. I think Katie should say "Hey Carly, remember when you broke my phone? Well, it costs kind of a lot to repair it, and my parents are going to make me pay for it with my own money. I was really hoping to save up to buy something with my money, so do you think you could pay for the repairs?".
