This may be kinda long, but I need to ask someone. I just started taking birth control pills 3 weeks ago. I think I may be pregnant but, I havent missed my next scheduled period. Since I just started taking the pill, that messes up my cycle for this month. I have other signs of possibly being pregnant. Being on my pills the nurse told me I should be getting my period around the 13th of this month. My boyfriend and I are very sexually active..in fact every night. I know we shouldnt do it, but it is unprotected each time. Is there a way that I could find out now if I could be pregnant..like take a pregnancy test tomorrow and find out? Im really nervous and want to know if I am now. I need to know what to do soon. Thanks.
oOswtOo answered Saturday October 16 2004, 3:26 am: I think you should wait until you missed your period before you actually take a pregnancy test. If you just started taking birth control pills you might notice a few changes in your body and when your young your cycles are usually irregular. Just remember: a woman usually doesn't show any signs or experience symptoms of pregnancy until after the egg has implanted in the uterus (5-7 days before missed period) and a pregnancy test can only detect if your pregnant or not if there's hgc in your urine. If you are really worried about being pregnant, take a test. There's plenty of "early detection" tests around. And if you so happen to not be pregnant, be more wise about the unprotected sex part. When you take birth control pills it does not eliminate all the chances of being pregnant- using the condom and pill gives you a higher chance of not getting pregnant. I really think its your body adjusting to the pills, but good luck. [ oOswtOo's advice column | Ask oOswtOo A Question ]
jazz82289 answered Saturday October 16 2004, 12:57 am: You need to get a pregnancy test now. Then if it's positive you need to tell your parents it won't make anything better if you don't tell them. THEN tell your boyfriend. DON'T tell him that you think you are pregnant!!!! He may bail on you, save the test, make sure your parents talk to his parents, and if you aren't thank God, and use PROTECTION from now on. [ jazz82289's advice column | Ask jazz82289 A Question ]
SullysGirl answered Monday October 11 2004, 7:30 pm: buy an early pregnancy test, most of them you have to wait until you arel ike 7-14 days late, they have ones that you can take after the 3rd day you have missed. try it. [ SullysGirl's advice column | Ask SullysGirl A Question ]
xostripped answered Sunday October 10 2004, 3:48 pm: In order to be accurate, you have to wait at least 19 to 21 days to use an at-home pregnancy test. I'm not going to preach to you about not using a condom...I've done the same thing myself and I know that stuff does happen. But, you do have to wait and ideally it should be AFTER your missed period. Try to wait it out to get accurate results. [ xostripped's advice column | Ask xostripped A Question ]

EMiLYELiZABETH answered Thursday October 7 2004, 1:57 pm: Hi there.
For the first little bit, your period will be wacky and will kind of come on it own time. I was told to wait about a month and a half before sex with out any other protection, so if it was me, I'd quit having sex for a few days and keep taking the pill. When you are you done with the active ones, wait and fo from there. I'd take a test sometime soon though, like in the next day or so. Go to any store and they have them there, or go to the doctor's office. Good luck & let me know what happens.
xxAdviceGirlxx answered Thursday October 7 2004, 10:23 am: Ok! If you know it's wrong, why do you do it? But it's not my problem... But you can try to do a pregnancy test for like $10 at like Walgreens and places like that. Or the safest and 100% way to know for sure is to go to the doctor's office and ask for a ultrasound or blood test. That is the only SURE way because pharmacy pregnancy tests are only 99% accurate. And from now on try to tell your boyfriend to use a condom because if he doesn't use one, one of you guys can get an STD (and I'm sure you don't want one) or you can get pregnant (and face it not many guys stay with their girls after they get pregnant). And maybe try yo have a little less sex because someday he's obviously gonna break up with you and he's gonna tell everyone he had sex with you and it's gonna make you seem like a slut (especially if you have a baby). Not that I'm not calling you a slut already.

alisonmarie answered Thursday October 7 2004, 8:07 am: First of all, the pill is not an effective form of birth control until AFTER you have completed the first cycle of them. That means that all the unprotected sex you've had this month has been TOTALLY unprotected - not just from STDs, but from pregnancy as well.
I'd stop having sex now, or I'd do it with a condom. Wait and see if your period comes; if it does not, your body generally doesn't make enough pregancy hormones to give an accurate test until two weeks after a missed period.
If you think you are genuinely pregnant, then go to your doctor. She will probably recommend that you stop taking the pill until you know whether you are pregnant or not. The pill will not abort your baby, but it can lead to significant developmental problems in a fetus.
I don't know whether this is nerves about sex and pregnancy, or an actual chance of pregnancy. If you are only three or so weeks pregnant, you won't be getting any 'signs' of pregnancy. The first sign that exists is missing periods. Morning sickness, breast tenderness, food cravings - those things are not instantly apparent. It's worth noting that many symptoms of pregnancy are also present during PMS.
AnGeLtHuGsTa answered Wednesday October 6 2004, 10:03 pm: If you don't get your period on the 13th like the nurse said you would. Take a pregnancy test!!! Most of them are 99.9% accurate. I hope you get the results you've wanted! But if your going to stay sexually active, use a condom ( I know most people like guys don't like using one ) but I'm sure you don't want a bun in the oven just yet. S_C answered Wednesday October 6 2004, 7:36 pm: go get a test. Your supposed to wait ATLEAST a month, but you SHOULD wait ATLEAST 3 MONTHS!
It only works if you do it correctly, so you are probably pregnant. Go to the health department with a friend or somebody your close to, and get checked out. Not to be rude, but BC only works if used correctly, and it sounds like in this case, it isn't being used correctly. [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]

MFS answered Wednesday October 6 2004, 6:19 pm: Pee on a stick, see if it changes color... pregnancy kits cannot give a false positive. They can give a false negative though. However, if you really need to find out, then you need to get a test kit and follow the instructions. [ MFS's advice column | Ask MFS A Question ]
