cramps

Question Posted Friday September 17 2004, 1:06 am

I get the worst cramps when I get my period. It's usually my first or second day when I get these horrible cramps. I take Motrin, drink tea and use a heating pad. Nothing I do seems to really work and my cramps get so terrible I just want to die. Is there something I can do or take that will make them go away?

Hey there. Well, don't feel alone. All us girls know how yoy are feeling.
Here are some things you can do:
-Take an Extra Strength Pain Reliever
-Avoid Salty food because this can make it worse
-When you are having the crap get up and move around
-Get those thermal patches that you can wear on you
-Try to use the restroom
-and lasty if the pain is that bad tell your mom so she can make you an appointment to see a doctor (gynocologist) ((fyi: they usually don't even have to examine you for this)) and you can ask for Birth Control. My friend was just like you, she would even throw up from the pain and she went ot the Dr. and now she is totally okay. :)

You should try and take Midol because it helps relieve cramps, bloating, and any other side effects during your period. Also, if you take a warm bath, it'll help make that cramps go away. Try not to eat any foods with caffine because it'll make everything worse. Whenever I get really bad cramps, usually around my lower back, I let my sister massage my lower back and it helps too. Hope I helped :)

If you take a painkiller and have a warm bath, the pains should get a lot better. Also, doing a bit of light exercise or stretching does actually help too (sounds weird but it's true.)If they carry on even after trying all the advice everyone gives you, you might want to go and see a doctor, he/she might be able to suggest or perscribe something to help with the pain. Hope that helped :) xxx

I get them really bad too. Someone said for you to drink caffine, DONT DO THAT!!!!!! it makes it soo much worse, dont eat or drink anything with caffine in it (including chocolate) Try not to smoke alot either, im a smoker so this is hard for me but at least try to cut down :)
My doctor gave me a prescription for mine and they did nothing cause i get them soooo bad.
I found the best thing for them is extra strength advil. take it every 5 hours, not just when you have cramps. They work sooo well. I havent had a cramp in 4 months! Also drink lots of water and cranberry juice works wonders too!!!!
Hope i helped :)

I used to have the same problem. But a few years ago I started taking birth control pills and I hardly ever get cramps anymore. And when I do get them they're not bad and go away with advil. So that's something else to look in to. Talk to your doctor, they'll know what the best one for you is.

MoonFisher answered Friday September 17 2004, 11:56 am:
Yes, there is. First of all, if you want to take a very natural route, taking a multi-vitamin that contains iron or eating iron-containing foods, like fish and vegetables, every day will help. Cramps are linked quite often with iron deficiency. Be careful not to overdose, as iron can be poisonous in huge amounts, meaning don't go take 8 pills at on ce, hehe. If you want a more sure-fire remedy, the doc put me on birth control pills when I was having horrible cramps at about 14-15 years of age. They made my period very normal, it only lasted 2-3 days, the cramps were almost non-existent, and my acne cleared up. I hope that helps!

If you get cramps that bad, take Midol. Not motrin
Motrin does do a thing. Midol works the best. Dont use heating pads or drink tea. Thatll make things even worse. Drink water and drink things with caffinee in it.

Take midol and doing some excercises usually seems to help. Or when you are just starting to get them take some midol and go take a nap. when you wake up, they will be gone. if none of this helps you then go see your doctor and he can prescribe you some pain killers with a higher dosage than over the counter stuff. Good luck!
