Hey I have to get braces in about a month and Im really scared cause I cant imagine having metal on my teeth lol. I just wanted to know from 1-10 how bad it hurts and how long about do people have them on?

It hurts a lot for about the first week of having them, but then you get used to them... and as to how long people have them, that widely varies, like I'm only going to have mine for a year but I've known people who've had theirs for 3-7 years... so it depends on much work needs to be done on your teeth. WelL it hurts pretty bad the first week and when they put them on. But when you get used to them after the 1st week its alot better. the first week your gonna have to eat some soft foods b/c its really painful! IT also hurts whenever you go in to change the wires b/c they tighten them and it takes a couple days to adjust! but in the long run its worth it! people usually differ on how long they wear them but most 1-2 years some less.

hey..braces arent that bad! i have them too..dont worry about the metal on your teeth - youll get used to it! but from 1-10 i'd have to say -- 5/6 but only when you get them first put on and adjusted and about 4 or 5 days after that..then they don't hurt very much until your next appointment and you get them tightened lol. people usually have them on for 2 years or so -- ive had mine for 2 and half years and im getting them off soon!! eX-Oh hope i could help!

I used to have braces, too. They hurt if you have to where headgear, but it was a 6 for me. You get to pick the colors, so dont fret. I actually like me better with them. :]

it only hurt for me when i first got them on and it was like a 3. then it only hurted for a day after i got them tightened. but not i dont even notice them hurting me. ive had them for 2 years.

it doesnt really hurt when they put the braces on its the after part that hurts. ur teeth will ache 4 a while so make sure u have food u dont need 2 chew have a lot of ice cream it makes ur mouth feel better. most ppl have them on 4 about 1-2 years not that long so dont stress braces work really quickly dont worry when ur done ull smile will look great..hope this helps

Well, when you first get your braces on, it's gonna hurt because for the first few appointments, your orthodontist tightens the wires so this makes your teeth move and hurt. I would rate how bad braces would hurt probably around 3-5. That's just my opinion. Umm, people usually wear braces from 1 1/2 year to 2 years. Hope I helped and good luck :)

Its lyke a 6. Fer the next couple of days u wont be able to eat anything hard lyke an apple or somethin u need to byte down on. I had braces in 6th grade. Dont worry about it tho its nothin to stress over. It'll go away in a few dayz nd ull forget u have them. Just have a lot of ice cream n popsicles ready! Good luck!!!!! :-D

when i first got my braces the doctor didn't tighten them so maybe ask if your dentist will do that so u can just get used to having the metal on your teeth...you'll get used to them - if they hurt you can take tyenol and stuff and eat mushy foods; they'll give you wax to cover the metal in case it bothers the inside of your mouth, and they'll tell you what not to eat and stuff.....i had mine on for only a year and a half but i kno 2 ppl who had them taken off and then put back on cuz their teeth moved! eekk lol but i doubt that will happen to you!...have fun pickin the colors lol

LoL. Well... I had braces when I was about 13. It didnt really hurt. I had mine on for about 3 years but it really depends on how str8 ur teeth are. I actually liked havin braces... U get to pick the colors and stuff it's awesome. lol.. choose hott pink!! =P [H][U][G][S] ~Summer

umm they dotn hurt at all after you get them..but like the first few days after its a little tender but nothing you cant handle!!!! maybe about a 4 or 5.....and i had mine on for 5 years but i had bad teeth as a little girl so i was a "special case" hehe!!

I have braces too! It bearly hurt at all, and the most you'll feel is pressure from when they have to hold the braces mold thing on your teeth, but after that, you get em tightened once a month and in about a year or two you'll have beautamous straight teeth! :D

it matters how long u have them on, i had them for 4 years but my teeth move slow..other people only have them for like 1 year! matters how fast ur teeth move..buttt it doesnt hurt that much unless they get tightened that kinda sucks but i think in the end their worth it =D

braces don't hurt at ALL when you get them on! it's like a 0 on ur scale. and depending on how bad your teeth are prolly a year or 2. i had mine on for 3 years:-p good luck with it!

braces dont hurt really bad for me at all. it only hurts a few days after they tighten them which tends to be every month but it depends on your ortodontist. someimes wires will be poking the sides of your mouth a bit but that is no problem at all. all you have to go is put wax on the ends of the wires. they will most likely give the wax to you. make sure to brush at least 2 times a day so you dont get marks on your teeth from where the braces were. oh and dont worry about if you think that you look dumb in braces or whatever. a TON of people wear them and they come in really cuts colors too! hope i helped ya!

well when you first get them on they hurt! but after a while you get used to them like I did. when you get them tightened they hurt then it goes away. if you really don't wan the pain take advil, since it's a painkiller. i have to have my braces on gor two years. i like them cuz you get fun colors to put on your braces. when you get the chain near the end of the time you have to have them on it will hurt. i would rate the how much it hurts at the most a 5. have fun and show off your braces!!! don't hide them.

uhh....it's about a 7 for the first week. i couldn't really eat too much. and the length depends on how bad your teeth are. the metal feels funky for a few weeks, but you'll get used to it. just use wax for a while so it doesn't hurt you.

Well I have braces and they only hurt like for the first 2 days u get them and also when u get them tightened every once in awhile they hurt for maybe an hour or 2 so after everytime u get them tightened and right when u get them on.. take some advil, aporfion, or stuff like that and they wont hurt nerely as bad! Dont worry so much! i hav had my braces for a year now and they are nearly as bad as i thought!

I have braces...they aren't really that bad! when you get them on its like a 3 outa 10 of pain..you just get this sour taste in your mouth..you usally keep them on for a year or two..also a lot of people have them so its not a real big deal when you first get them on to people...hope that helps!

I say the pain is like 7. I mean its painful but it is bareable pain! I only had mine for one year... but i've known others that had to have them for about 3 years. It just depends on your teeth. But even though it'll be painful just remember that after all the pain is over with... you'll have a beautiful smile. good luck
