Periods

Question Posted Saturday July 31 2004, 3:27 pm

I got my first period over a year ago, July 2003. I have gotten 4-6 periods when i should have had 12. i go long periods of time without getting a period. Like I got one in December and my next one was in March. I have one like every 3-4 months and what really sux about it is that when i actually do get them its not the same day of the month. My first one was on the 1st but i've gotten them anytime of the month. Im really skinny and some ppl say if u dont have alot of body fat it messes up ur periods.. is that true?

thanx... kt

Extremely atheletic women, or females who are not eating enough, can experience their periods stopping. I wouldn't worry about this, though.

It sounds like you are just having irregular periods, which is very common and could last the first few years you have your period. You body has to adjust to new hormones and rhythms, and that takes time.

If in a year's time you are still irregular, I would go see your doctor just to double-check everything's okay.

being a former gymnast, i understand you completely since thinner ppl and muscular ppl normally get theirs later - actually, whenever you lose weight or exercise more your period might get screwed up (i didn't get my period for 5 mnths once...and it was a gift from God hahaha)...you shouldn't worry yet tho cuz periods usually aren't normal until after like 2 years from the first period...just eat right and if you are still concerned then talk to your doctor - i can assure you that they've been asked similar questions millions of times so don't be shy !

((plz rate...thanks))

no that is not true!... you just have irregular periods. not everyone is the same. if it is such a problem, then maybe you should consdie getting on birth control to regulate them.

Dear KT,

It is true that being overweight or being too skinny can affect that way your monthly period works. Try speaking to a doctor about your problems. Or you can try eating a bit more, but make sure it is healthy. If that doesn't work, then find out if it maybe runs in your family.

Best of wishes,

Hi KT,

Having irregular periods like this at your age is perfectly normal, don't worry about it. They'll settle into a pattern as you get older. Your body weight has nothing to do with this, its something a lot of girls experience during puberty.

They are suppose to rotate every 28 days, but sometimes less, or more days than that.

Also, if you get excited, like if you were to go somewhere you couldn't wait for, (i.e. concert), then you might skip your period.

I'm not so sure about the body fat part, but maybe it's true. If I were you, I'd try to look it up.

Just_Being_True answered Saturday July 31 2004, 5:01 pm:
It's not odd that your period is irregular..b/c you didn't start that long ago. You should be about 100 pounds when you start, so if you are less than that then it may mess up your cycle. If it continues to do that....maybe ask your docter next time!

Hope I Helped.......Alina

*The reason your're not fully getting your period is because your body is undergoing changes and in 1-3 years your period will flow regularly. By the way the whole skinny thing is a lie, unless you're anorexic.*

No that's not true, the first couple of years your period should be irregular. On my calendar I mark what dates I got them and I look at every day and make sure if I get it or no. Hope I helped! <3

There's nothing to even worry about! You're just now starting off with your period really, not having a regular cycle is normal. In your case it just doesn't come around as often which is good. Soon it will start going on a normal cycle, in the meantime, nothing to worry about!

Okay, since youve only had your period for a year now its totally normal. Your menstrual cycle hasn't regulated yet, meaning you have an irregular period. I'm not really sure if its because your really skinny, but I dont think thats the cause. My doctor told me it normally takes a couple of years for it to become regular, meaning you get it every month and usually 28 days apart.
