What age should I start babysitting?

13 is probably a good age to start. However, it really depends on your maturity level AND your comfort level. Make sure that you know what to do in certain situations and make sure feel competent as a babysitter before starting! Also, I would say 5-6 dollars an hour starting is probably good.

I figure once you're 13 it's okay to start babysitting for family friends and neighbors .. anywhere walking distance (because you can't drive, so you'd have to depend on rides if it's far away).
In If you're under 16, then $5-$7 is appropriate to ask. If it's just one kid, then you really don't need more than $5/hour because it's not remotely difficult. If you're at least 16 and/or there's more than one child, it's find to ask for $7 (it's just under minimum wage, but since you're being paid cash without taxes, it's actually more than what most kids in fast food restaurants and other places are making).
I've never specifically asked for an hourly wage. It was always assumed that $5/hour was the minimum, but that was 5-6 years ago years ago when I was in high school and was babysitting. I had one neighbor who always paid $10/hour whether I was babysitting one of her kids or all 3.

As for asking how much, I never upfront said "I charge....such and such an hour"
I've babysat a ton of times, but the families that I babysat for years, well here is what they paid me.
One family, had 2 kids, I got 5 dollars an hour. I usually was there for 4-5 hours. Another family, had 1 kid, and I got paid usually between 10 an hour, and usually was there for 6-10 hours. They were really financially stable.
Its up to you on what you want, Usually I just let the family pay me, and I end up with good money. I also know that now a days its hard for people, money wise. I never upfront told someone how much I charged, I've got asked that question before, and told them I couldn't answer, so told them, whatever they could afford, and ended up watching there kids for 7 dollars an hour. Theres been times I've only gotten 10 dollars for 3 hours.
lol As you can see, its up to you. Babysitting is fun, especially if you love kids.

Well, to me, 13 is usually the most common age to start babysitting, since people are going into that "teenager" stage stuff...and, for an hour? I think maybe like 10 bucks or something like that. Its just an hour, anyways.

I started babysitting when I was going into 7th grade. It depends on how many kids you are watching. I babysit three girls [6 8 9] and I get paid 7 dollers an hour .. and I also babysit a girl and a boy [8 11] and get paid 5 bucks an hour .. so you decide :) <3 Steph

ok i was 11 when i started babysitting but i would say around 12-13 and you could charge about 3 dollars per hour and around 2.50 per kid

depends how mature you are, really. i started babysitting at 9 but thats because i was forced to. really you should probably start at like 13ish or so... and money, ehh.. alotta people say babysitters should get $4 an hour, sometimes $6... depends how many kids youre watching too!

I started babysitting when I was 12. You should be flexible with the families you work with. I am. I get $5 an hour. Make sure u do get payed if you had a bad time with the kids.

People usually start baby-sitting around 12. Umm... I babysit 2 little girls for 2 dollars an hour. So that means if i baby-sit both of them for 5 hours, i get $20. I really like that system and i make a grip of money over the summer ;)!!! But when you have trouble making kids, charge more!!! Well i hope i helped!

I started about at about 11 years old, after taking a certified baby-sitting class. (Which I strongly recommend you take. Try the Red Cross for classes..) I started out charging $5 an hour, but once you feel like you should charge more, you can raise your rates. Good luck and have fun! :)

The best age for u to get a good amount of customers is 13-14 yrs old. you should charge a fair price of at least $5.00. I am 22 now and i baby sat infants when i was 13. i charged 5.00 and all the parents said they liked my price. the parents came back often like twice a week, maybe more! it was fun plus i got to get a lot of thing i had my eyes on at that time.

I started babysitting when I was 12, but there is really no set age. It depends on how old the parents want you to be. As far as pay goes, ask the parents what price they think is resonable...then you can work something out that will benefit you, and won't put the adults in debt! ~insanity_will_dominate

13-14 years of age, but make sure you are certified in CPR or it will be hard to find a job baby sitting. And arounf 5.50+ an hour if you have experience and are good at it.

Most people start babysitting for money around age 14, maybe 13 if your parents think you are mature enough. If you want to babysit other kids besides your brothers and sisters, you have to get babysitter training from the red cross. You should probably ask for $2.50 or $3.00 per hour.
