Question Posted Tuesday June 1 2004, 9:36 pm

I dont believe in God, or Satan, or heaven and hell. I think its just a story told to us to try and make us act like better people. Please comment.

How do you know that there isn't heaven or hell or God or Satan? Do you have infinite knowledge? Well feel special if you do, cause I don't.
And why would they (who is they?) want us to act like better people eh?
How would we know the difference between right and wrong? If there is no God, then what is our purpose in life?

Of course its not just a story!! Jesus did die on the cross for our sins, and satan is real, he's everywhere..every time someone offers you a drink(if your underage) everytime you say or think something like God isn't real. He is, and he put us on earth so he could show us his grace and mercy. Even if it was just a story(which its not) do you think people would act better? Its common sense that your not supposed to go kill someone, but also one of God's comandments. Jesus loves you, it may just be a song to you, but I really hope that your opinion changes..he does love you, and he died on the cross for your sins.
I'll pray for you!!

xyz answered Thursday July 15 2004, 11:13 am:
I believe that education is paramount to the success of spiritual growth. It is a good thing to live in the question. Keep delving into history and you will become more aware through time that humans have had many different opinions throughout the ages and that these opinions are just opinions, which are no greater or lesser in value than your own. Moreover, dogma is often borne of myth and folklore. No one really knows the truth of the universe. We can only speculate and reason. But please do not discount the power of "goodness". I believe it is an essential ingredient for happiness. A "story" that promotes kindness and benevolence is still a good lesson to follow for your own benefit.

*HelpGirl7892* answered Monday July 12 2004, 8:39 pm:
Everbody has a different opinion about it. Some people believe that hes true like I do. And others believe what you do. But its just like Santa or the Tooth Fairy. Some kids believe their real and others don't. Yet eventually we find out it was just our parents,b tu then there are those kids that no matter what people say or they've heard they still believe no matter what age. It's the same way with god exept most people believe and keep believing no matter what any one says. They are the ones who stand with their opinion.

it's your opinion. Sincerely,

**Bridgette**

P.S- if you need any more help or want to tell me how it all worked out I would enjoy hearing from you!

CometoHallie answered Tuesday June 22 2004, 9:25 pm:
I'm answering from some feed back you gave someone...well that is a good question if God forgives and loves us then why do we go to hell? Well see it's your choice if you want to go to heaven or hell. You have to ask Jesus into your heart and you know your saved becuz you feel and know its there and really cant explain but you'll change and everytime you do a sin youll feel guilty and have the urge to ask for forgiveness and God ALWAYS forgives and forgets its dropped in the sea of forgetfulness. A-admit that you are a sinner(everyone is) B- believe that Jesus died on the cross for you(and he did)C-commit your life to him. (its hard contolling your life but if you put it in his hands you wont regret it) and D-do it now because you might not have tommorrow.

Jesus loves you and will always love you!

i completely agree w/ u however i think religion is a god thing in a way because it helped the human race survive and evolve. w/out it a lot of people would have nothing to belive in and if that happened much of the world would be killing itself (more than it already is) and going litterally crazy because answers to their questions like why r we here would not be answered. people like me however dont need something like god to believe in to survive.

viviena answered Thursday June 3 2004, 4:53 am:
Are you an atheist then? Just curious.

Well really, that's what all religions are based on, including Christianity; belief in something that cannot always be proved, and it's something you can only challenge personally. However, I always think it's good to question some aspects of religion, and I'm the same as you in that I refuse to believe in that one brand of Christianity that you seem to be describing (a.k.a. the fire-and-brimstone, those-who-aren't-saved-shall-burn-in-the-fires-of-everlasting-hell variety), and I'm comforted by the fact that not all Christian faiths think the same. Certainly though, there are a few faiths (a.k.a. the-unsaved-deserve-to-burn-in-everlasting-hell type) which seem more like a form of human crowd control to me; only humanity could dream up such malevolence.

As I range between agnosticism (which basically means keeping all your options open ;)) and a deism (who believes in God(s) via reason only), that means for me there could be a God (or Goddess, or Gods), but never could there be such a being who would condemn those unfortunate to suffer 'eternal damnation'. Of course, there are always other faiths to explore as well.

I partially agree. I think it is just a story, but I'm not quite an athiest. I just kind of believe in whatever I come up with. It's fun not to be bound by religion, but religion can also be a good thing. It can give you reassurance about the afterlife. (woah, that's kinda deep. O_O;;)

im not a very religious person like i don't go to church every sunday or stuff like that but i don't think to believe in God you need to. and if there was no heaven hell God devil or any of that how do you think all of this came to be?..it didn't all just show up one day someone made this. no one is telling you those stories to make you act better then you are. you're suppose to want to be because thats the right thing to do. i don't want to make you think you have to believe in anything but i know and enough people knwo whether or not someone who knows for a fact can tell us that there is place we all go to to account for thigns we've done. <3

Magenta answered Wednesday June 2 2004, 6:06 am:
Possibly very true. You appear to only be talking about Christianity, and so not being a Christian I don't feel the need to defend them particularly. But I am religious. I think it's your own choice completely whether you have faith in anything - some people find religion very fufilling, others find it a little (or very) hypocritical.

advice~gurl answered Wednesday June 2 2004, 12:46 am:
I Totally understand where you are coming from because I use to be just like you. I didn't grow up in a church invioment never blessed dinner (except for holidays)didn't go to church and to find out that my mother use to be really big on church and beleiveing totally awed me. The reason I didn't beleive is that my brothers and sisters were always poking jokes at hhow weird and funny and how stupid church people were and I just thought that it wasn't true and that they were right and the rest was a lie.
When my brother left for boot camp in 2001 my mom kept saying she wanted to start church again sence I was the only one left at home. So finally in march of 2002 I had just turned 12 I went to chruch for the first time in my life. WOW what I difference it felt I was welcomed as if I had always been there it was great!!! (Me always been made fun of this was a change) I liked what they said, it just helped me.
The church I went to was the Mormon church "The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints" Now no I'm trying to convert you but I will let you know that there is a God and I believe that he lives That’s fine if you don't it's your choice.
You’re asking this question maybe because you feel wrong for feeling this way? I don't know but the Mormon Church has a GREAT youth program and it’s really cool. If your a gurl and your older than 12 your a Young Woman or if your a guy and older than 12 Your a Boy Scout. And on Wednesdays sometimes Tuesdays depending where you live they have mutual. Where you go to mostly enjoy yourself. its fun even if you don't beleive. trust me. now I know I probaly sound like I'm trying to convert you to my church and im not I just seen to do this if it is in the subject of spirituality.
you beleive what you want its your choice im a christain all the way but if your athiest thats fine too.

You can believe what you want but i personally am a believer. I'm not going to force you to learn about god but you should try going to church. going to a youth group is a fun way to meet new friends and learn about god at the same time. a life without god is not a healty life. if it weren't for god you wouldn't be alive today. try the youth group idea and you might find an interest in god and you will live a hapier life.
