About Daimeera

Hello there!

I'm a 21 year old female from Nova Scotia, Canada. I'm not as active on this site as I once was, but I will almost certainly reply to private questions sent to me.

Let's see, about me. I've been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Clinical Depression, as well as some other related mental and physical illnesses. Despite this, I'm happier now than I can ever remember being.

I've been a vegan since August 2007. In other words, I do my best not to consume anything of animal origin, ranging from the obvious (meat), to the somewhat obvious (eggs and dairy), to the not-so-obvious (honey, wool, silk, and more). I love this life. I have so much more appreciation for everything and everyone around me, and I feel so at peace with myself and the world. I wake up everyday and know that I'm making a difference. It's been a huge turning point in my life.

I recently graduated from high school after an extra three years due to my illness. It was a long road, but it felt amazing to walk across that stage. An added bonus was having the 15th highest average (over my high school career) out of 258 students!

I intend to pursue a career in psychology, first obtaining my BA, and then attending graduate school in order to study for my PhD. It's a little daunting at times, but I know it will be worth it. I want to help people, plain and simple. I want to make a difference. I want to change the world. And I believe I can, if only in a small way.

I think that's me in a nutshell. I also enjoy writing, knitting, multiple other artistic endeavors (including drawing, photography, music, and more), web design, and many other things. So, feel free to drop me a message if you think there's something I can help with.

Psst, guess what? I, like everyone else, have my very own message board! You can visit it here.

17/f I just found out I am aneamic (sp?)
I have been vegetarian for 4 years and I am feeling really dizzy and a bit nauseaous lately. I can't even stand up and walk in a straight line without feeling dizzy.
I had a blood test and was found to have aneamia.

What foods should I be eating to fix this?
The only meat as such that I eat is fish and eggs. But I hardly ever eat these.

Does anyone know what I should be eating?

Please refer to yourself as pescetarian, not vegetarian--you make the lives of vegetarians more difficult when you use improper terms. Every time you eat fish and call yourself vegetarian, people get the idea that vegetarians eat fish--which they do not. It's a personal pet peeve of mine, although I'm vegan.

That said, supplements can help. Also consider visiting this site:

http://www.veganhealth.org/articles/iron

The information on there seems accurate and the sources cited are respectable ones. It gives you a basic idea of which foods contain what amounts of iron, and a rundown of the properties of iron.

Vegetarianism--or pescetarianism--does not have to bring about anemia. Make sure you're eating the right things, and you should be fine.

ok so im 100 lbs and in the 8th grade, and i want to be smaller. i used to be the thinnest of all... then i gained. i want to be the SMALLEST of everyone i know, and i know i can do it b/c i have before. i really want to become anorexic, PLEASE, ive heard all about how it screws you up and stuff, but i want ways to BECOME anorexic, not people telling me the dangers i already know all that. if youve been anorexic before, please tell me how you did it, b/c i want to be! i havent eaten all day and when i do, i just throw it up. i dont seem to be seeing much of a difference, so please tell me how to be anorexic.

I have a few questions for YOU.

Why do you want to be anorexic? Why do you want to be the thinnest of everyone you know? What feeling will that give you--will you feel special? Do you want attention?

There are healthy ways to get all these things. Starving yourself is not healthy, and it will not solve any of your problems or make you happy. It just won't.

You need to ask yourself why you want this. The question isn't how to develop an eating disorder, because that's self-explanatory. The question is why you want to.

I'm not going to tell you that you disgust me, because you don't. I'm concerned about you. Anyone who has these feelings isn't okay. They deserve better. You deserve better.

Find a way to improve your life, not make it worse. You can be healthy and happy, or you can have an eating disorder, but not both. Choose health. Please.

I'm a 19 year old girl. Bear with me: this is long.

I've always been heavy, and I recently topped out at about 225 lbs. That was a month ago, and now I'm down to 208. I struggled with binge eating disorder from about age 10 until recently, so I was used to that. But now things are changing.

I started off by dieting. I started to lose some weight. Then I started to cut calories. I live with my boyfriend, so he got worried. I stopped cooking enough food for the both of us, and gave him most of it so that I didn't have to rationalize my not eating.

Now I've got a new job, and it involves a lot of exercise. I've been losing weight at the rate of 1-2 pounds a day since starting. I've been skipping meals so that I don't have to eat, saying that I'm not feeling well. When I do eat, I try to eat mostly salad, with very little else.

I'm weighing myself every day, almost obsessively. If I gain a half pound back, I make myself do an extra half hour on the treadmill, and cut my normal meal amount in half. I guess that's as close to purging as I get.

I noticed all of this today, because I was getting dizzy and nauseous while I was working, and had to stop.

My question, now that you have the background, is this:

Do I have an eating disorder, or is this just extreme dieting? If so, which one, because I'm really confused as to where to start with fixing things if I do, and getting onto a healthy weight loss path. I tried looking this up online, and the only one that really fit my behaviours was anorexia, which I don't have because I'm overweight.

Any help on the matter would be great.

Look up ED-NOS; it fits your symptoms. Mind you, no one here can diagnose you, but perhaps it will provide a certain measure of comfort knowing that you're not just nuts?

Please try and get yourself help sooner rather than later. A therapist could be tremendously helpful to you. A dietitian would also probably be of use. I would definitely suggest seeing a doctor; he or she can run tests to rule out physical reasons for your weight, and possibly even physical reasons that might lead you toward this unhealthy weight loss.

You're hurting your body. I know you know that, and I know that to a certain degree right now, it doesn't matter. Weight loss is almost a natural high. I've been there. I am there. It's not pretty, and it doesn't get easier.

I think you know it's a problem, because you're posting here. The next step is to figure out why you're doing what you are. How do you feel when you don't eat? How do you feel when you do? What other things can cause these feelings? Why is this the path you've chosen? It goes beyond weight, because if that was all there was to it, you wouldn't be depressed to see the scale go down only a bit; you'd just be happy to see it go down.

Please get help. Talk to your loved ones. Talk to a professional. You deserve better than this.

The reason this question is called "miracle diet?" Is because what Im about to as really might sound like Im asking for a miracle. I want ot lose 40 pounds by the start of April. Is there anyway I could do this without resorting to Anorexia (which is something I was [and still] considering.) Your help will be greatly appreciated.

No.

In fact, even if you starved yourself, you still couldn't do it. Plus you'd mess up your metabolism, possibly damage your heart and other organs, and wind up in therapy.

Set a more realistic goal. Try to lose 5 pounds by April. Doctors recommend you lose no more than 1-2 pounds per week. Beyond that, it's dangerous.

You need to consume at least 1200 calories every day to keep your body functioning. So do it the right way--consume that many, in good foods like whole grains, lean meats, vegetables, and so on, and exercise. Your body will thank you for it.

how come people who want to lose weight drink like, 5-6 bottles of water a day?

Chances are, those people are getting more exercise and need more hydration.

Also, water keeps you feeling full and sometimes when you feel hungry, you're actually just thirsty. Many people also substitute it for high calorie juices and artificial drinks.

Well, one of my online friends advised me to take the EAT-26 test. I took it and I scored a 45. Even though I'm overweight, my weight sluctuates between 20-25 pounds. But supposedly, if you score about a 20, you should seek some help. Yea..right. Like anyone will believe I have an eating disorder.
And lately, I've just been feeling depressed and deprived of all life. I usually don't feel like this..I just think it's the fact of my weight. But I've even had the thoughts of killing myself lately. I don't know. Everything just seems wrong. Any suggestions on how to feel somewhat better?

If you scored above 20 on the EAT-26 test, you have a problem with food.

Being overweight does not mean you don't have an eating disorder. You could have binge eating disorder, or you could have EDNOS (Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified). You might be a chronic overeater.

The fact that you're depressed further adds to my concern.

I think you should talk to someone, about how you feel, and your issues with food. Just because you're not stick thin does not mean you don't have an eating disorder, and the sooner you get treatment, the better.

Please take care of yourself, and consider talking to your doctor and getting the help you need.

I really need to lose like 10 lbs. I want to do it unhealthy. I told my mom and she was like ok. So please help me. Because I need tips to resist food.

I sincerely hope that was a typo and that you didn't mean to say you want to lose weight in an unhealthy manner. Because if that is what you said, you need help beyond what anyone here can offer you.

Don't resist food; choose better food. Fruits and veggies, leaner cuts of meat. Exercise is just as important as what you eat, if not more so.

It's really a matter of balance. If you starve yourself, you'll gain the weight back eventually because you'll start eating again, and nothing will have changed. If you make lifestyle changes, and they don't have to be huge, you'll keep the weight off and feel better about yourself.

I've just got some questions for bulimia for an artical i'm doing.. i'd like questions from people who know what they're talking about, not people who are just looking for ratings, please.=)

so first off, is there really a major difference between bulimia and laxative use? as in, in the long run are the results of losing weight different? which makes you lose weight at a more rapid pace, ect. just general information.

also, what are the positives and negatives of bulimia? please pay attention to the positives from the eyes of someone who sees him or herself as overweight. =)

i'll rate accordingly!

Laxatives are part of bulimic behaviour, therefore you cannot class them separately.

The negatives are mainly health problems (heart, teeth, hands, stomach, throat, etc.), and lower self-esteem (the ED encourages low self-esteem, and vice versa). It's also tremendously lonely and alienating.

From a rational point of view, there really aren't positives. From a disordered point of view, there are many. Please keep in mind that these do NOT reflect my personal views, nor are the entirely sensible. That said . . .

Bulimia gives you sense of control over your body. You feel out of control when you eat, so purging, in any form, gives you some of that control back.

It allows you to eat as much of whatever food you like without worrying about the calories.

You may or may not lose weight--but the hope is generally that you will.

It's "yours." It belongs to you, no one else can control it.

It makes you special. You have the control to make yourself sick.

It can earn attention. People sit up and take notice.

It can hurt your body. That's a good thing for some disordered patients.

It's a release. Purging, particularly vomiting, allows you to release everything inside, often feeling like your cleansing yourself of negative emotions as well as food.

It can be mistaken as healthy behaviour, particularly in the excessive exercising situation. Fasting and over-exercising both are considered bulimic behaviour, but they're less obviously destructive than other methods of purging--and thus harder to recognise.

Those are the ones that come to mind. If you have more questions, feel free to ask--I'm fairly well-versed in eating disorders and the eating disordered mentality.

I need to lose 15 lbs. in a month. I hate exercising. I need dieting tips!

You're not going to lose 15 pounds in a month, at least not in a healthy way. In fact, I doubt you could lose 15 pounds in a month in an UNHEALTHY way, either.

As said below, you need to exercise. It's as simple as that. No one says you have to go for a run or spend countless hours on a treadmill. Play badminton. Go for a walk outside. Go swimming. Take up juggling. Find something that gets you moving.

Eat properly and that too will help, but to be healthy, you need a balance of activity and nutrition. Cut out MOST, but not all junk food, or you'll get major cravings and end up binging. Allow yourself one treat a week, for instance. Then you know it's there, and once it's gone, it's gone.

Eat fruits and veggies. Don't drink away empty calories, for instance pop, high-calorie hot chocolate, anything along those lines. If you drink juice, it should be actual juice, not the kind that's almost entirely sugar and has virtually no fruit in it (I do recommend drinking a glass of juice in the morning, though--orange and apple are good and wake you up). Choose lean cuts of meat. Eat several small meals a day. Don't deprive yourself or that will lead to a binge.

It's a balancing act. You can't just stop eating or change your diet and expect to lose weight. Not only will you be unhealthy, but it also simply won't work.

Move. Enjoy food. Make sure you even need to lose the weight in the first place.

My average day, foodwise, consists of this: 2 pieces of wheat toast, cheese cubes, and coffee (breakfast.). Half peanut butter sandwhich, sunchips, granola (lunch). Chips and salsa (snack), Lean Cuisine veggie frozen meal (dinner). I drink a bottle and a half of water a day and treadmill for 30 minutes.

Any tips for changes I can make to lose 10 pounds quick? Healthy.

Replace the sunchips and chips and salsa with something healthier. The rest of your meal plan looks good--you might try low-fat cheese if you're not already, but having the cheese in general is a good idea.

You should be having more milk. Contrary to popular belief, it can help you lose weight. A cup of skim milk is only 90 calories.

Try incorporating more fruits and veggies into your diet. Apples, bananas, melons, etc. are all good if you're craving sweets. Carrot sticks, celery, cucumber sticks, anything crunchy is good if you want something to munch on. Even salad dressing is okay if it's low-fat; Kraft makes an Italian dressing with only 5 calories per tablespoon.

You might also try replacing the coffee with orange juice or apple juice. It's healthier for you, especially if you put a lot of cream and sugar in your coffee. Besides, fruit is supposed to wake you up just as well as coffee.

But these have to be lifestyle changes, or you'll just gain all the weight back. And unfortunately, you can't do things too quickly, or again, you'll just gain it all back.

You might enjoy varying your exercise routine, too. Thirty minutes on a treadmill every day can get very boring! Take a walk around the block, play a game of badminton with a friend, even lift some weights. Change it up, and you'll also change which muscles you're working.

I am very pleased to see that you want to do this the healthy way. That's absolutely essential. Good luck.

any glutne free tips??? i think i am alergic to it....but it may be ibs i get these exmtreme cramps it sucks

You should definitely see a doctor. It might be a gluten allergy, it might be IBS, it might be Crohn's, it might be lactose intolerance, or it might be something entirely different. No one here can diagnose you.

If you're really determined not to go to the doctor, there should be some gluten-free products at your local grocery/health food store. Make sure to check all your food labels if you're trying to cut it out, and see if it helps. Alternatively, cut out a lot of what you're eating and if it stops, gradually introduce foods back into your diet to see what's causing the problem.

But really, your doctor is your best bet. Even if he or she has you do the same test, at least it will be supervised by a medical professional who can make sure you're getting your proper nutrients.

Good luck.

okay im not fat and inoe it. just ive been on vacation and im gaining weight. i need to lose the weight and ive been going to the gym working out a lot, pilates and everything but i cant stop eating. its not like im a cumpulsive eater or nething like that. and im not hungry all the time. jus im bored or i wanna eat something because of the taste and im not hungry. i duno its wierd. and i noe some of u are gonna say to eat snacks and stuff but have them be healthy... and i do that. but like i wanna stop eating soo much. because i finish lunch and i eat a banana and then i want something else. so i eat grapes and then like yogurt and then i go to the kitchen and eat some more.??? pleassee help me. wat are ways i can stop eatingg and cut down on my cravings because i noe its gonna get out of hand im gonna start eating unhealthy foods and gain weighhtt

help.

The only thing I've been able to find that works is to find something else to do. Or, if I'm not sure if I'm still hungry or just craving, I'll tell myself that if I still want whatever it is in twenty minutes, I'll have it. Usually I've forgotten by then.

Light exercise can really help with cravings. Not only does it distract you, but it can also quell your appetite (although for some people, it does the opposite, so beware). Even playing an adrenaline-pumping computer game, or getting involved in reading or homework or anything else can distract you from eating.

I feel your pain, I really do. I've had MAJOR issues with cravings and weight gain because of it. I think to a certain degree it will always be a struggle, but if you set your mind to it, and have plans in mind, more often than not, you'll beat the cravings.

I am about 15 pounds underweight. I am 13 years old 4'10'' and 70 pounds. I know that bad, I'm don't have any eating disorders or nothing. I just have a very high metabolism and have a slender body shape (most women in my family on my moms side are bulit like that). I don't want to gain weight fast. I know it takes like a month to gain about 3 pounds or something. But I just want to know are there any diets that can help me gain about 1-3 pounds each month?

I would suggest seeing a doctor and/or nutritionist. Chances are it's just the normal way your body works, but they can make sure there's nothing else going on, and when they find out you're otherwise healthy, they can help you plan meals that will be healthy but will also help you gain weigh. McDonald's, for instance, might help you gain weight, but it's not healthy. Trained specialists will be able to help you find better ways.

Good luck.

I've been pretty ill for about a week or so and haven't been able to eat, I've lived on tap water for the whole week and havn't eaten anything else. I've drunken about 1 1/2 to 2 litres per day, maybe a bit more. What will happen to me? Anything bad? What can it do? I'm scared but I can't bring myself to eat anything else...

The longer you go without eating, the harder it's going to be to start again.

You don't want to begin by eating a huge meal--that's unrealistic. Try switching to juice in place of some of your water, and maybe milk as well. You'll at least be getting a few nutrients.

If you can stomach protein drinks, it might help for now. You can get some that taste pretty good, and it would help you take in more calories as well as helping your body heal.

Does anything tempt you at all? Your favourite foods? Ice cream? Eating anything, even if it's junk food, is an improvement at this point.

If it continues for much longer, you should see your doctor about it--it might be something worse than just the flu. Your doctor would probably also have tips about how to increase your food intake again.

I'm about 5'5
and I weigh about 145-147 pounds.
Im not THAT fat[im muscular] but I do eat alot, but i eat alot of healthy things.
And I know how to loose weight but I always end up eating to much and then feeling guilty about it.
When I Do follow a good eating habit , I would eat a peanut butter and bananas and slim fast for breakfast, yogurt pretzels and raisins for lunch, broccoli and chicken for dinner, then yogurt and apples for snack.
How much weight would I be able to loose a week by that>?

You are currently an acceptable weight as far as your BMI is concerned, but I can understand the desire to lose a few pounds, and there's nothing wrong with that, assuming you do it carefully and don't go overboard.

Exercise is definitely a help. Get on a regular, disciplined schedule, and it will be easier to keep at it. Plan ahead and give yourself goals.

It's impossible to predict what one week of eating differently will do for your weight loss. It depends on a variety of factors--your metabolism, your activity level, and your natural tendencies.

But what's really important is to not just go on a crash diet. Find something you can maintain or you'll gain the weight back--and more. Yo-yo dieters statistically are likely to gain more weight than they lost to begin with, and it's an easy trap to get caught in.

Find some good foods that you like: fruits if you have a sweet tooth, for instance. Frozen bananas or apples with cinnamon, if you don't like them plain, make a great snack. Salads are great too, if you don't load them up with fatty dressing (try Kraft Lite Italian). Having a bowl of soup before each meal has also been proven to reduce the amount of calories you eat because you feel fuller before you get to the more calorie-laden food--again, though, make sure that it's a safe calorie choice, and not a cream-based soup.

Ultimately, it's about finding a balance of food and exercise that you can live with. If you like foods with more calories, you have to exercise more, and the minute you stop, the pounds will pile on. If you can find lower-calorie foods, you should still exercise, but you're not in as much of a danger zone.

Keep in mind that 3500 calories is equal to one pound, gained or lost. Now, at your weight and height, you burn about 1520 calories just by existing--that's if you stayed in bed all day and did absolutely nothing. That is the minimum number of calories that you should eat in a day. That doesn't, however, factor in movement or exercise, so if you add in the calories of your activities throughout the day, you'll be able to find the approximate number of calories you burn. Then it's a simple matter of doing math.

One other thing--it's generally not recommended that you lose more than 2-3 pounds in a week, anything more is unhealthy. So keep that in mind, and don't go overboard!
