17/f I just found out I am aneamic (sp?)
I have been vegetarian for 4 years and I am feeling really dizzy and a bit nauseaous lately. I can't even stand up and walk in a straight line without feeling dizzy.
I had a blood test and was found to have aneamia.
What foods should I be eating to fix this?
The only meat as such that I eat is fish and eggs. But I hardly ever eat these.
mikesadvice answered Monday April 21 2008, 8:13 pm: I just did this Google search on "iron rich foods" and turned up some very good sites. I also recommend taking an iron pill. You should consult your doctor or pharmacist for a good one. Shrimp, salmon, tuna , dark leafy green vegetables are all good sources for iron. eat them regularly. Fortified cereals are excellent sources also. Check the nutrition value on the side. One I like is Total. I also take a liquid supplement. Something bio-available is better. (that means body ready)I use vemma www.myvemma.com/344842005 the cost is $60.00 a month but well worth the cost. My mind and body works like it did when I was 28. I am now 55 and in great health. Okay so, people with aneamia need IRON. You can take little iron tablets every day since your a vegitarian and your probobly not thinking about eating any red meats (which by the way is loaded with iron just letting you know) I'm not really sure of many other foods with much iron, but I do know there are somethings like Slim fast that has about 4% of iron. But Seriously, I strongly suggest you take an iron tablet everyday, you can get them at cosco or any drug store. Didn't the doctor give you anything? And run over what aneamia is? Daimeera answered Monday April 14 2008, 12:53 pm: Please refer to yourself as pescetarian, not vegetarian--you make the lives of vegetarians more difficult when you use improper terms. Every time you eat fish and call yourself vegetarian, people get the idea that vegetarians eat fish--which they do not. It's a personal pet peeve of mine, although I'm vegan.

Razhie answered Monday April 14 2008, 1:13 am: Fish is a very good source of iron. If you are willing to eat it, I would strongly encourage you to eat more of it. Also, beans and spinach are some particularly good sources.
However, to feel better quickly, I'd suggest getting an iron supplement from the drug store. Most young women have low iron, but being a vegetarian puts you at a greater risk and you to pay closer attention to it. To get yourself back on track, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about iron supplements. It’s amazing how much better you will feel when your iron levels rise back up.
