I exercise for 45-60 minutes a day on one of those bicycle things in my house...and I have a few questions. First, is this a good amount of time in order for me to loose weight? If so, how long will it take me to loose 10-15 pounds (with a good diet)? Second, is it normal for my thigh muscles to swell afterward? Third, I don't want my thighs to be huge with muscle...they alreay are muscular. Will this work out do more fat-burning or muscle-building?

Thanks much. (link)
I will answer your question one at a time and then explain the whole thing :)

1. Yes it is a great amount of time

2. It depends on your weight and height as of now... If you are overweight, you will lose weight faster, if you are already pretty fit then it will take longer. So it could take little as three weeks to over 3 months.

3. I am not sure about your muscle swelling thing :( sorry

4. Sadly your legs are the ones thats getting worked out so you will build up some muscle in your leg but I am sure you won't get those body builder muscles (to put it simply) however it IS a leg workout mostly... so if you don't like it then you might want to think of the alternatives...

That brings me to my conclusion, it's great that you are exercising for that amount of time and with a good diet you will definetly see results sooner or later. As to if you don't want muscle in your legs then I suggest you stretch and do pilate exercise afterwards to cool you down... (I do the cross country and I jog/run when i am off season but I always do other form of exercise such as pilate to give me LEAN muscle not bulky muscle) don't exercise so vigoriously that you can't even cool down. Maybe that's why your thigh muscles swell...Exercising too hard. I've experienced that if I push myself too hard (after taking off from exercising for a while to start back up) things happen... I've blacked out for a moment, and my legs collapsed after i got off the exercise machine (the one you are talking about) so if you are a beginner, take it slow. Don't over do it that you won't last long. It's not about you doing it as much as you can, it's about controlling your body and keep exercising daily.

if you have more question, you know where to hit me up :D

hey, i neeed some helllp. hahah obv. :) but like i'm 13; 14 in a week; and i was just wondering what the average weight for me is, becuase i'm 107 lbs. i'm not skinny; but i'm not heavy; i'm not slow; but i'm not super fast. i'm average. haha i wanna get fit! and i also have a not so small buttt? and it doesnt go good with my body structure. it looks like its fit for a girlw with a not so flat stomach. buti have a kinda flat stomach... that needs to get fit too. ahah so is there also a way to get a better butt? hahaha. i'll accept websites to if anyone responds to this. (link)
Yes like the last person said, you need to post your height because every inch can determine how much is the average weight...

Here is how it gets broken down.

5 foot is 100 pounds... Every inch adds on 5 pounds.

So if you are 5'1'', then average weight for that height should be 105 lbs.

So hope this helped

Im a 15 year old male about 120 pounds wanting abs bad, I just want to have a nice six pack. I want to get abs quick and fast and wondering the best ways I can them in about 3-5 weeks. I dont have anything to help me like boflex or anything all ive got is my floor. (link)
Okay everyone will probably tell you SIT UPS. No its not just sit ups.

Health magazines stated that if you have excess body fat around your ab region, you can do all the sit ups you want, but you are not gonna be able to see your six pack. But I am assuming you aren't overweight.

And lucky you, its easier for guys to get six pack. I mean i've been doing like 200 sit ups for long long time, sometimes i did like over 1000 but i dont have them because im a girl :(

but eat protein like chicken to help you grow muscle.

Do sit ups at least 200 a day. More the better of course but dont strain yourself.

if you want more help let me know

If you put something in your mouth long enough untill you taste it but don't actually swallow it, do you still get the calories or no? (link)
No actually you DO gain calorie if you put food long enough in your mouth for flavor. I've been interested in that field for over 2 years and I've heard stories about people who are anorexic. They just put food or just chew(most they do it that way) and spit it out thinking they won't gain the calorie but yes in fact you do gain calorie. Not the whole thing of course though.

Ok so here's the thing, i have 5 days until football tryouts, i can run about a mile without to much trouble, but i want to increase my stamina more. Will i be able to make much improvement if everyday up until tryouts i do cadio training like this

stretching
30 min stationary bike
wind sprints
jump rope
run
high steps
kareoke
stationary bike (link)
It will definetly help you out with stamina, but you must make sure you are resting well too. You can train all you want but make sure you eat lots of carbs. Otherwise you won't perform well at the try out.

Baked Potatoe, pastas, they are all good for energy. Hope you do well :)

so school is almost starting and i want to get into better shape. im going to be very busy because i am in the marching band and that is like 24/7 so i dont have a huge option. i want to tone up my stomach...ALOT. and my legs just a tad. im not sure if i have time to go running so i am stuck with a bike that doesnt move and anything i can do in my room.

if i do sit ups or crunches how many should i do a night? school for me starts on the 5th. i want to try to get as much done as i can. im not expecting alot becuase i know it is a short period of time so please do not tell me its hopeless or whatever. how long should i go on that non moving bike thingy? what other stretches?

also is it possible to get rid of cellulite? (link)
Crunch is same as sit up except when you go up, you only go up half way up. It puts lot of pressure on your back and neck though. So it really doesn't work out your leg. Hope this helped :D

That is great you want to get in shape. Well I am also into toning my abs and legs so this is what i do. I do at least 200 sit ups a day. Not all at once, I used to but not anymore. You can do them like 50 in the morning, 50 after school and 100 before bed or something like that. You can divide them up into 50 and do 4 sets of those.

And I say sit ups because if you are going to do crunches, might as well do sit ups because sit ups also tones your leg and crunch isn't really that affective. Do as many as possible actually. 200 at least though

Bike exercising should be at least 30 min. Most exercise require to do at least 30 min before it actually works your body out.

You can do squats for leg. And I also had problem with cellulite problem. I mean i didn't have really really bad one but I still saw weird dimple like things on my thighs. (I am leg heavy =[) but squats definetly help. I can tell you that for sure from experience :D

If you need any more help or described other exercise in detail let me know :)

Is there anyway to make you a faster runner... like instantly
I'm extremely athletic, but I have to run a 5:50 mile, so I was wondering:
Does like adrenaline make you run faster? Like "fight or flight?"
If so, how can you make your adrenaline higher?
Also, any other ways to make you run a fast mile time? (link)
What I did was increase my stamina first. So try running 3 miles or up, so you can gain some stamina. After you get comfortable running some distance try going for a mile. That should help out a lot.

Okay I am 16/f to start off :)

My height is between 5'6'' and 5'7'' and I weigh around 145lbs.

I used to be 180 lbs around about 2 years ago and I am glad I've lost that weight. However I am still not comfortable with my weight at all.

I even had minor eating disorder like bullimia and anorexia. But I never starved for over 3 days because it was pretty much impossible to not eat when my mom makes me eat infront of her. So I was bullimic on and off. Not throwing up everythign I eat. Only doing it when ever i thought i ate too much. Which I dont do that any more neither.

So I am sure I killed my metabolism then. So I am going on a new road without any eating disorders and I;ve been working out pretty regularly for 2 months now.

I used to jog about 4 miles but now I jog for 2-2.5 miles. I breakdance about 20-30 minutes here and there. I lift two 3 lbs dumbells when I workout my arms and do sit ups. (i am planning to do 200 sit ups, i used to do over 500 but then i stopped and now starting again)
and after my jogging, I practice my handstand and cartwheels.

I don't think I overeat, nor snack that much. In fact I dont eat junkfood at all, however there are days when I just go too crazy from depriving myself from it, I guess I eat junkfood sometimes.

For breakfast I eat a big bowl of cereal(which i am trying to eat the serving size now)

Lunch, i eat whatever my mom makes me. but she balances it out really good with veggies and meat

In fact I love eating veggies and we eat fruits for snacks

So why am i not losing any weight? My goal weight is to be 125 lbs
(link)
Okay the short version. I eat healthy, I dont eat junkfood(if i do, it would be like one day out of the whole month) and I eat veggies and fruits over any other things. I exercise at least 1 hour a day. So why cant i lose weight?

okay im 5'8 and i weigh 150 pounds. i want to lose at least 10 pounds this summer. would it be healthy to lose 10 pounds in 2 months? to have a good body, what should be weight be? please dont tell me 150 is fine because its not for me and i need to lose weight...so yeah. so is 10 pounds a good goal for 2 months? (link)
Well 10 pounds in 2 months sounds very reasonable goal, and i am glad you are not saying like i wanna lose 10 pounds in a week!!! because we all know that's pretty much impossible unless with lipo.

And I know what you mean about wanting to lose those pounds because I am average but I want TONED body.

150 poudns is in the range of average weight for your height but if you weighed even 145, you would look much toner. Because 5 ft counts as 100 pounds and 5 pounds plus for every inch.

So you can weigh 145 but look more toned because you should develop some muscles that would make you look toned and stuff.

What I did was I started out with 30 minutes of exercise when I just started. Which is a really good time because you don't wanna do less than 30 minutes. Otherwise you won't see that much result anyways.

Best diet for losing 10 pounds is just simple. Eat right and exercise. I know I know that's so cliche but that is only way to keep it off FOR GOOD.

Good exercises you can do

-jog
-walk, make sure you walk in fast pace though or you won't see much results
-pilate, i recommend buying one of those crunch pilate dvd's or video tapes at wal mart, that's how my mother lost weight
-using steps. you know, just go up one step and down one step and just keep repeating.

also for better result and for defined arms, use 3 lbs dumbell on each hand when you are doing steps

those up there were just overall work out however if you are wanting to do more for certain targetted areas such as abs, arms, legs than here are some

abs - definetly sit ups, don't do crunches, i've read so many things saying that they don't show that much result anyways. Also those criss cross kind of things. You know when you are in sit up position, you have your hands behind your head and bring your left elbow to your right knee and vice versa. Those are good for your oblique

Arms - lift light weights if you don't want bulky muscle, just do lot of them. You will get "cuts" in your arm but not gross muscles.

legs - squats.

------------------

as for your eating, you can eat something light in the morning like a bowl of cereal.

for lunch, salad,

and for dinner, you can eat like normally, but just control your portion

As long as you AVOID junk food and fast food, and you control your portion, you can pretty much eat normal foods you are use to eating, unless they are Mickey D's and stuff. Serously, you need to cut out those from your diet to see the best result. Try a fruit if you are hungry or those sugar free pudding or jello.

whats the best diet for loosing 10lbs in a month?

and how much excersise should i be doing? (link)
Well losing 10 lbs is different for everyone. People who have generally large amount of body fat can lose that in shorter amount of time than people who have less body fat. Which will lead to how much exercise you need to do.

However I started out with 30 minutes of exercise when I just started. Which is a really good time for beginner because you don't wanna do less than 30 minutes. Otherwise you won't see that much result anyways.

Best diet for losing 10 pounds is just simple. Eat right and exercise. I know I know that's so cliche but that is only way to keep it off FOR GOOD. I mean I am not gonna lie and say that diet pills don't work because I've seen my friends use them and they did lose lot of weight in a month with it but EVERY SINGLE one of them gained it back when they stopped taking it.

Okay I'll make it short since i wrote way too much XD,

ONLY ANSWER IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT

If I run 1 hour a day, and do 30 minutes weight lifting a day, how long will it take me to get fit (if im already skinny and just have a tiny bit of extra fat I'd like to get rid of) ? Of course I'd be eating healthy while doing it. Do you expect it to take more than a month? (as i said, im pretty fit already, just have a tiny bit of extra fat!) I just need an estimation of time, of course I don't expect it to be exact.

Thank you (link)
Hey that is good enough for you to see result.

When I did that, running for an hour and doing weights and situps (for extra abs workout) i actually saw result in a week

But that is probably just me because i was obsessed with my weight so i sort of became very keen with my weight loss and gain

but other people started noticing on my second week

So yup you will definetly get result in about 2 weeks!

good luck~

Okay so for soccer we have to follow a training program to get in shape for next year. Pretty much right now it is something like 40 minutes to an hour of running a day. Now I went from doing nothing at all for exercise, to doing this everyday. I'm approxamately 140 pounds and 5'5. I'm not fat, but I got a chubby stomach and legs, and I've never been in really good physical condition. My question is when will I start seeing results? Like how soon? I have just completed the first week. I've also been eating well. I know I can't get a definite answer, an estimation would be lovely. =]

Thanks (link)
Hey I was in similar situation as you. I didn't really join soccer but I joined Cross Country, which my coach made me practice at least 25 min of running but I did about an hour eventually. I started seeing result in 1st week

Well I am not sure if it was just me because I was so obsessed with my body weight (i know not good) so I eventually became very keen with my weight gain and loss.

But other people saw results too in my 2nd week.

So you should be able to feel it in 2 weeks.

to start off
i'm 14/f
almost 180lbs =/
and about 5'5"
what should my weight goal be?
i would really like to be a size M in shirts.
i'm XL now.
advice on how to lose the weight would be helpful too.
thanks! (link)
HEy wow I was EXACTLY same body weight and height as you were when i was 14!!!

Well the whole average weight should be 125 lbs for your height.

5 ft is 100 lbs and every inch counts for 5 lbs. So yeah when i found out i was somewhat upset.

So end of my 8th grade year, during summer, i cut down all the junk food. I literally had no chips, cookies, chocolate, and even soda which i was soooo hooked on to.

Also i started exercising 30 minutes everyday.

I did pilate videos and dvds. Pilates help you burn fat and tone you up so you won't get that manly muscle and all that.

So i just kept exercising regularly, and my lowest weight was 131 lbs and i grew 2 inches over the years. But i always go up and down in weight like crazy because sometimes i am too busy to exercise and now i sprained my ankle. But the point is, you keep on trying and you will reach your goal!

Hopefully this answered some of your question and if you have any specific question, please let me know.

how can i lose 5-10 inches off my waist in about a month with out pills? i have a membership to a gym and iv been trying to stick to my diet. (link)
Exercising and going to gym definetly helps out, if you stick to it, as to your diet. It tones out your body as whole, however if you are looking for more toned waist/ab area, then I'd definetly recommend you sit ups. I noticed (from my own experience) the change in less than a week. Sit up is really just targetting that area and you dont need any special equipment for it neither.

If you are good at sit up, then I'd recommend you to do 200 per day, however if you are not, then you can start as low as 10. That's how I started out because I could only do 1, yes one, sit ups before, however now I shoot up to 200, and 250 sometimes.

It's all in the perserverence. You can start increasing little by little, but don't push too far. Just keep increasing until you reach around 200. Then you can do 200 all the way or you can divide that up like 50 in the morning, 50 in the afternoon, and 100 night or so.

And even after you are getting better with that, then add some weight by holding on to dumbell while doing situps. Like holding near your chest as you rise up for the situp.

Hope this helped

My stomach is fat. im a skinny person but I have so much fat on my stomach its not even funny. You can see it through my shirt.
What can I do? my mom said sit ups DON'T help.

13/f. HELP! (link)
First of all, sit ups DO help :D not trying to go against your mother or anything but I have been into exercises for over 2 years and Sit Up is one of the best way to reduce the fat around your stomach. I have seen result on my own body in less than a week. REsult that is noticable. I dont know if it's just me because I developed this thing where I just know so accurately even if I lost or gained little weight however the point is, it will work if you do it right as mentioned below from others.

You need to eat a healthy diet because sit ups use lot of muscle around your abdominal area and quadriceps. Also eating whole bunch just stretches out your stomach so it is very hard to reduce the size of it in the long run.

So if you think you are not eating healthy or eating lot of amount you have to tie down and start doing that right. Eat the right portion. If you are doing that right, then you are half way there.

Second step is to know your limits. Don't kill yourself from doing that because it can hurt your back if you do it too far as well as knock the wind out of you almost (from personal experience). If you are new at it, start off slow by doing 25-30 or even 10 if you are not so great at it. I had to start from 1 because I was out of shape 2 years ago. Then gradually increase the amount by week. Or even days if you feel like you are up for it.

Then slowly increase it up to 200 sit ups. I know it sounds a lot so you can divide that up to 4 sets of 50 sit ups.

Also when you get good at that, add some weight by using 3 pound dumbell on each side of your hand. Or exercise ball things.

hope this helped :D

14/f 152 pounds.

this past week iv been going to the gym everyday and dieting. i really want to lose up to 10 or more pounds by april 17, im going to florida and i want to look good in a bathin suit. Eveyone tells me im not fat at all and i dont need to go on a diet, even my mom has been telling me that. I think im pretty advage and i know im not REALLY fat but i do have some fat on me. Im very athletic, i play soccer and basketball and i guess im a little muscular thats why i weight a lot (muscle weights more than fat), im in pretty good shape but i have some fat on me that i want to get rid of by the middle of april. What are some excersices that i could to to work my stomich and possible get abs? or just lose my fat. (link)
Like what people below has mentioned, sit up is very good. If you are athletic, i recommend you to do at least 200 sit ups per day. You can do them by dividing them like 50 in the morning, 50 during the day, 100 at night or something like that. or 200 straight out if you are up for it. Just don't push yourself too far, because 200 was just the recommendation, but you can start out like 50 then increase to 100 then you know the pattern. Also i would advice you to get one of those exercise balls that are not too heavy in weight or if not, get some 3 pound dumbells and have them on your hand when you are doing sit ups.

Also pilate's help lose fat and tone up so its really good and very easy to find those pilate exercise tapes and dvds.

So i hope this helped and good luck!

Ok i'm skinney but I want to loose fat on my belly.
Can I do ab excercises to burn it? I don't want abs, they look gross to me. I just want a flat somache like those girls form the Pussy Cat Dolls for example lol (link)
I would suggest sit ups... I know lot of people think that they will get that ripped six pack abs but no. For one thing, you are a girl, (not trying to sound offensive because im a girl too) but it is so much harder for a girl to get six pack abs.

two. You would have to do mega work out to actually get six pack abs so do sit ups. That really toned my abs in less than a week no kidding.

Also yoga and Pilate(thats how you spell it XD i read what was answered) is very good as well as mentioned below

im 13,about 5'5, and i weight 184 pounds.i know i am much over weight.im not exactly sure how much i should weight.

before i go back to school, i want to have lost a good amount of weight(i go back to school around the end of august).what are some workout plans, without using any machines, that will help me?i want something high intensity, something that will deffinetly give me good results.

also, does anyone have experiance with the Cross Crunch Abdominal Exerciser, or the Zone Pilates?do these really work?i am interested in buying either one or both of these, but i was wondering if they really do work.would they help me loose weight?what other things help like that, but dont cost too much?my friend reccommended a yoga or workout ball.dothose help?

i really need help, and i am tierd of always being "the fat girl".i want to look good and show everyone when i go back to school.it is also something that i want to do for me personally.i've struggled with this for a long time, and i want to put an end to it.
thank you to anyone that can contribute!! (link)
yeah I have cross crunch thing, but I am not sure about any result. I mean I've been losing weight and stuff, but I do other exercises too, so I am not sure. However, from what I've read online, it worked for people.

And I know what you mean, I was so sick and tired of my weight, I used to weigh like 178 lbs and i was 5'5'' when I was in 8th grade.

At the end of my 8th grade, I was so determined to lose weight.

So here's what I did. I cut down on ALL SNACKS. No soda, no chocolate, no junk food what so ever. And exercised for 30 minutes everyday. Which isn't hard at all once you get used to it.

I don't suggest you buying any of those machines because I have yet to find any results from mine, HOWEVER what I suggest you is to buy those workout dvd and videos they sell at wal mart. You know like Crunch Fat burning workout and stuff. They do work. That's how my mom and I lost weight during summer. And help my weight off.

So now I am going on to 10th grade, and I've been basically working out for like little over a year and I am now around 144 pounds and 5'7'' or so.

So just stick to your work out and healthy diet and you WILL see results! and let me tell you, it feel great and you will get lots of compliments and that will make you want to work for it more!

So if you want more information on specific exercises and right diet, just IM me.

Lastly, you should weight 125 lbs on average, because 5 foot counts as 100 pounds, and every inch counts as 5 pounds.

So since you are 5'5'' you should be 125 lbs, so its pretty accurate.

okay.. so im 16/f... and i weigh like 160.. ick i know... so here is the questions part.. so next august is when i have to take my senior pictures.. and i want to lose weight before then. i want to lose about 50-55 pounds.. so my question is how long will it take to lose like 50 pounds.. and what are the best ways of doing it. thanks in advance. (link)
Well its really hard to say how long, because it is different for everybody, however it took me about a year to lose 30 pounds.

However, it might be different for you.
Here's what I did and stuff, for preference.

I was about like 178 pounds when I was in 8th grade, and I started to exercise when 8th grade was over so I started when summer started. I worked out for about 30 minutes everyday during the summer, and lost 10 pounds or so. I did this mini-stepper with 3 pounds dumbell on each hand. then I stopped. I know, which i am suggesting you that you do NOT want to stop because it will make losing weight more harder once you stop and when you have to start again.

Then I stopped doing mini-stepper, and started doing video crunch exercise. Which was about 30 minutes or so.

Then when 9th grade started, I started exercising more and more. One point I exercised for like two hours or something.

But that gets tiring, so now I just exercise for 30 minutes or an hour. Instead, I go skateboarding or something.

And eat healthy. Don't ever skip breakfast because that's what get your metabolism to start so if you dont want lots of calorie, just eat 3/4 cup of cereal with 1/2 cup of milk. Which is the normal serving size. However I dont suggest you eating like s'mores cereal. Try honey bunches of oats, or something that is healthy like Special K.

Bascially, eat right and stay active. If you like shooting hoops, do that. It will be a good workout and fun.

Hope this helped!!!

oh my gosh, you guys..I thought I was doing so great! 2 months ago, I measured my waist, and it was 77 cm all around, and since then I've counted every single calorie, worked out 30 minutes every day, both running and boxing and even some weight lifting, and also swimming, I made sure to keep it very variated, and today it's been exactly 2 months, and I looked to see my progress and it was 82 cm all arounf my waist! I've been crying for an hour now, how is that possible? How could I have GAINED weight, when I've done everything to LOSE weight?
I promise you I havn't cheated with what I've been eating, or my excersize..that's why I was so surprised, I thought I was doing so well!!

Help me please!! (link)
Well since you said you haven't cheated on your eating and exercising, it might be just because you gained muscle... you know?

because I've been exercising to lose weight for one year and trust me, there are ups and downs because sometimes i gain weight but my abs looks whole lot better than when i weighed less...

And do you feel you have become more physically fit or looks that way??? because if you do, then number shouldn't really matter

and keep up the good work!! because when im exercising, i cheat sometimes... and that results to me in gaining pounds back on,so yeah...

so if you keep working at it, you will see results eventually!!

Hope you lose weight that you want~
