Well its really hard to say how long, because it is different for everybody, however it took me about a year to lose 30 pounds.

However, it might be different for you.
Here's what I did and stuff, for preference.

I was about like 178 pounds when I was in 8th grade, and I started to exercise when 8th grade was over so I started when summer started. I worked out for about 30 minutes everyday during the summer, and lost 10 pounds or so. I did this mini-stepper with 3 pounds dumbell on each hand. then I stopped. I know, which i am suggesting you that you do NOT want to stop because it will make losing weight more harder once you stop and when you have to start again.

Then I stopped doing mini-stepper, and started doing video crunch exercise. Which was about 30 minutes or so.

Then when 9th grade started, I started exercising more and more. One point I exercised for like two hours or something.

But that gets tiring, so now I just exercise for 30 minutes or an hour. Instead, I go skateboarding or something.

And eat healthy. Don't ever skip breakfast because that's what get your metabolism to start so if you dont want lots of calorie, just eat 3/4 cup of cereal with 1/2 cup of milk. Which is the normal serving size. However I dont suggest you eating like s'mores cereal. Try honey bunches of oats, or something that is healthy like Special K.

Bascially, eat right and stay active. If you like shooting hoops, do that. It will be a good workout and fun.

Hope this helped!!!

:]

Aww don't say ick it's not THAT bad! I've totally been in your shoes, I know what it's like. So far, I've lost 30 pounds, and it's taken me like 4 months. I've been trying to lose weight for 6 months though, and I haven't been trying as much as I used to. Like, I'll still eat fast foods which definitely IS NOT good!! But before whenever I was losing 30 lbs, I cut out like all fast foods, so that's definitely one of the first things you want to do. As much as you'd want to just have like a Big Mac or something, just think always about what you want your senior pictures to look like.

A lot about losing weight is having a lot of mental support. You may think it's all physical, but it's about being able to tell yourself that you can do it. Because, that's partially what's going to get you through your weight loss process.

Briefly describe what your goal is;
- Losing 50 pounds & looking GREAT in my senior photos.
& Then write down what you think you need to do to achieve your goal.
[The obvious things like, drinking water, cutting out sugars, exercising, etc.etc.]

Keep that, and leave it somewhere you'll see it EVERYDAY. It'll be a great motivation. Or maybe just hang it on your fridge, so whenever you see your goal sheet, you'll realize you don't NEED food, you need to reach your goal & hopefully that'll help.

Remember:
Your goal is desirable & worth it.
You ARE capable of achieving your outcome.
&
You deserve to achieve your outcome.

Most of the time, you eat whenever you're not hungry & it's just there, so you're bored -- & you eat it. Big mistake. You need to stop recreational eating habits.

What behavior do you want to change?
Stop recreational eating.
What does that get for you?
It makes me feel fat & then I unfortunetly gain weight.. which makes me get further away from my goal.
How else can you get that benefit?
Walking, talking, going out, shopping, exercising, etc. etc.

There's also your comfort zone. So, you're eating one of your favorite meals EVER! And you don't want to leave a little bit of it left, because you know you'll regret it later when you're hungry. That's how most people think. A big part of losing weight, is not eating until you have to take that big sigh at the end of your meal, meaning your stuffed. Your comfort zone is anywhere between, where your still partially hungry -- not even hungry. It'll take you a while to KNOW where your comfort zone is at, but don't eat until you can't eat anymore. Just eat smaller portions, like half of what you usually eat.

The basic 8 good health guidelines;;
- Eat atleast five servings of veggies & fruits daily. [Vegetables are healthier then fruits, but it doesn't matter which ones you choose to eat most of, you just need to eat 5 portions of them!]
- Choose whole grain foods, such as brown rice & oats, whenever possible. [Wheat pasta instead of white pasta. If you look in the pasta section & you compare the two's calories, you'll notice the wheat is soo much better. & Wheat bread is just obviously a lot healthier then white!]
- Include two servings of milk products [low-fat(1%) or fat-free] each day. [such as: yogurts, cheeses]
- Have healthy oils each day. [Olive, canola, sunflower, salflower, or flaxseed!] This ensures that you get the essential fatty acids & vitamin E that your body needs. Use oils in salads, while cooking, or an ingredient in a mixed dish.
- Make sure that you are getting enough protein by choosing atleast one serving of poultry, fish, eggs, dried beans, or soy products each day. Many milk products are also good sources of protein.
- Limit added sugar & alcohol. [Try switching to drinks without sugar, like Diet sodas!]
- Drink atleast six glasses of water daily.
- Take a mutiple vitamin-mineral supplement each day. [Even Flinstone vitamins are good!]

As you're getting ready for activity, some suggestions to help you get started.
1. Invest in a good pair of sneakers.
2. Consider buying a portable CD or radio player. So you find yourself racking up the miles before you even know it.
3. Consider getting a pedometer. Push yourself harder & harder until you've reached like a mile, and just push yourself. :]

Do more of whatever you're doing now. Walk whenever the opportuinity arises, limit your use of elevators & escalators and climb stairs instead. Instead of trying to find a close parking spot near your grocery store, park in the far back.

The hardest weight will be the last 20 lbs, when you're trying to get down to 110ish. It'll be VERY hard. And sometimes you'll have weight gains, or you'll stay the same. & that's completely normal. One week you may lose 5, the next you may lose 2 and then the week after you might gain back a pound. it's just how your body works, it doesn't even matter what you do wrong, because you probably won't do anything wrong, it's just how your body is going to react!

Well, I hope my advice worked in some way or another. If you ever need help with any sorta weight loss question, please don't be afraid to ask me. I know ALOT about it, and I'm always open to helping people. :]

Good luck!

I know that people probally get tired of hearing this, but eating "healthy" is actually the key. When I say healthy, I don't mean that you shouldn't have cookies, or pizza but know your porportions and how much take in. You have to make right decisions about food. With that, I can't help you much with so you should try to figure out your eating plan and look more into it. I can't tell you what and what not to eat. Anyways, lower the amount of calories you have each day. If you have over 2,000, try 1,500. Write down what you eat so you can keep on track. It really does help. So, the next important thing for a succesful weight loss is exercise. Most of us hate that word and we're not happy to hear it, but it can be fun! Try to get about an hour of exercise a day. Walk around your neighborhood. Swim, run, jog. You can also buy dvds. Pilates, yoga.. anything that keeps you moving is great and it helps. Vacuming the house will burn off some calories too so cleaning is good and I'm sure it would make your parents happy lol. If you stick to a healthy, well balanced meals and exercise you should be loosing about 1/2-3 pounds a week. That's actually really good! You might not lose a pound EVERY week but don't let it get to you. It happenes to everyone and just don't give up. Think about how badly you want this and stick to it. When you're on your period, you may gain a pound or 2 but that is normal. It will go down and it's mostly water weight. Oh & also, don't drink much soda. Diet soda is better because it's 0 calories. You might not like it, but once you get used to it, it doesn't taste much different. Also, if you don't like vegtables, you can buy V8 juice. It counts as a full serving of veggies.. same with fruit. You can make smoothies without sugar. =] Good luck with everything and just be patient!!
