about

My name's Jennifer, but I'm more commonly known as Jen or Sporkster. I love lots of things/people including God; volleyball and soccer, my two favorite sports; and cheese. I also love Pi, but that's a story for another day.

I've been answering questions on Advicenators for over three years now, so I'm pretty experienced with it. I love answering questions and helping you out anyway I can, so if you've got a question, just ask me!

Ask me about: Christianity, athletics, physical fitness, love-life, relationships, friendships, HTML queries, book suggestions, music suggestions, musical theory, history, English (or Spanish) grammar, Paint Shop Pro 8, skin problems, sports injuries, "punk" fashion, nutrition, etc.

Q: iv been looking on the internet and i cant seem to find some PIANO sheet music for existentialism on prom night by Straylight run

could you help me find it? or give me a link?

A: Check http://www.musicnotes.com

That's the only site I know of, and I'm not so sure they have it.

I'd try checking the band's official site for a sheet music book you can buy.

Q: I wonder whether any music folks out there can help me? I'm working on my audition piece "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" from the Phantom of the Opera. On the sheet music, the phrase "too many..." (in the line "too many years fighting back tears why can't the past just die?" if you have the sheet music) the syllables are three quarter notes. Above the quarter notes is a bracket with "3" written on it. What does this mean?

A: The three means to sing them as a triplet.

This means to smooth them down.

I haven't seen the sheet music for this song before, but it's probably broken down like:

Too-man-y years figh-ting-back tears, why-cant-the past just die?

That means to say "Too-man-y" very smoothly together.

Ugh! I know exactly what you're talking about but it's proving rather hard to explain it.

According to this site:

http://www.lesession.co.uk/abc/abc_notation_part2.htm#ets

You sing the three notes in the time of two smoothly.

Oh, just listen to to song and you'll hear what I'm trying to tell you! =)

Q: hi, can anybody tell me, is it possible to reduce the size of MP3s? You know like making a 5 MB mp3 smaller so that it can fit on my mobile phone which only has about 3MB space left. Thanks for your help

chris

P.S ill rate high for any1 who at least tries to help me.

A: This takes a little while, but it's the simplest way I can think of.

Take your mp3, burn it to a CD. Take your CD and rip the mp3 back to your computer at a lower rate.

For example, you burned it to your CD at 256 kbs. Rip it back to your computer at 128 kbs.

This should reduce the file size by about 40-50%.

I know it's kind of long and unnecessary, but at least that's an option!

Q: What do you do when you have a teared vocal cord??? How do you fix this... I hurt it today and chorus and IT KILLS!!! it was on accident too and i HAVE CHORUS EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!

A: For God's sake, woman (or man), don't sing!

Honestly, I don't think you've torn a vocal chord, though you could have damaged them in some other way. Please, though, for your sake don't sing anymore. You could really screw your voice doing that, just stop.

Have your mom or dad write a note so you don't have to sing in chorus, and go see a doctor.

Q: 15/F

I was looking at the question someone asked about good classic rock songs, and your taste in music seems to kick ass! So, my problem is that all I listen to is classic rock, and im completely out of touch with all new music. Since I can trust you to have good taste in music, do you have any suggestions for good modern bands?

A: Well, I don't know if there is such a thing as good taste in modern music. =P You know, with all that "punk" stuff and whatnot. But I'll give you a list of what bands I listen to.

From Autumn to Ashes
Alkaline Trio
Coldplay
Dave Matthews Band
90's Green Day music
90's Foo Fighters music
The Used
Weezer
Breaking Benjamin
Jimmy Eat World
Jane's Addiction
System of a Down

I've not really listened to them, but Nine Inch Nails is a pretty good band.

Also, if you want some more awesome suggestions for classic rock:

The Eagles
The Who
Led Zeppelin (as always)
Pink Floyd

You might want to check out some folk rock like

James Taylor
Cat Stevens

I hope you'll like what I've suggested. I really love them. =)

Q: does any one know some good classic rock songs?

A: Just to add a few songs to Panramos's list:

The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin
When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin
The Ocean - Led Zeppelin
Going to California - Led Zeppelin
Tangerine - Led Zeppelin
Another Brick in the Wall (Parts 1,2,3) - Pink Floyd
Money - Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
We Will Rock You - Queen
Killer Queen - Queen
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - Rolling Stones
Have You Ever Seen the Rain? - Creedance Clearwater Revival
Proud Mary - Creedance Clearwater Revival

Those are all great songs. Led Zeppelin is my favorite band, followed by Queen and the Rolling Stones. Pink Floyd is pretty good as well.

Happy listening.

Q: OK. You guys explained to me how to read guitar tabs. Now there's only one thing left to ask.

High E-3---------------
B -0---------------
G -0--------------
D -0---------------
A -2---------------
Low E -3---------------

^

A: The dashes represent the strings on the guitar/bass, nothing more. If you've got guitar questions, I advise you go straight to MFS, as he seems to be the guy on Advicenators with the guitar know-how.

Q: I'm trying to learn how to play guitar, & I don't relly want to ahve to go get lessons, so I wanted to be self-taught, but I don't know any iste where I can learn how to play or know where to buy any books to learn how to play.

I don't know any chords or keys or anything, I am JUST starting so I'd need like the things what show you where to put your fingers & how to tune the guitar & stuff

so if anyone could show me a site that I could learn form or where to buy these books I would really appreiciate it!

& I was also wondering, should I buy an accoustic or a eliktic guitar? (I'm 14/M/TX)

thank you so much!

-Cameron

A: If I were you, I'd get lessons to start out with. That way you could get hands-on information, learn the basics, etc. so you could build on that and teach yourself the rest. But, if you don't want to, that's fine as well.

Try going to musicnotes.com and downloading Guitar Guru if you want to see a few samples of songs. It shows you the tempo, how to position your fingers, how to play certain notes, etc. They've also included a tuner (but it only for the normal EADGBE tuning). It's a cool little program for beginners, but I wouldn't just go by this.

Head to your local McFadyen, Pearson, or Duncan Music Company and look for some self-instruction books on how to play guitar. They even have books like that at Barnes and Noble, Books-a-Million, the Ink-Stand, etc. They'll probably have quite a few books to choose from--just flip through the pages and find one that has illustrations, photos, good explanations of everything, a list of chords, etc.

I'd probably learn how to play acoustic, or classic guitar first. You can play a wider variety of songs and you actually learn how to play a guitar. I'm currently learning to play on my dad's classic (Goya). I like the Ibanez acoustics, but I don't particularly like Fenders. Research and find a guitar that's right for you, though. You're going to be the one playing it.

I hope this may have helped you a little bit, but if you really want kick ass guitar advice, ask MFS.

Q: Do you know where me and the voices inside my head can get the HTML code for the Numa Numa Dance?
The Numa Numa Dance is that funny viedo of that kid dancing and lipsinging to that german song.
I really wanna put it on my myspace.
Thanks!

A: I dunno where to get the code...but I do know where you can actually download the video. http://www.albinoblacksheep.com. Search the archives for Numa Numa Dance or Song and you should find it. Right click and "Save Target As".

Oh, by the way, the word is lipsync, and the song is actually Romanian. :) Just a little trivia for you. No offense or anything, just saying.

I hope this will help you, but if if doesn't or you need more information, feel free to email me or IM me via AIM.
