Guitar Tabs

Question Posted Sunday June 26 2005, 6:57 pm

OK. You guys explained to me how to read guitar tabs. Now there's only one thing left to ask.

High E-3---------------
B -0---------------
G -0--------------
D -0---------------
A -2---------------
Low E -3---------------

^ <-- Ok. The last question: What do the dashes mean? Pauses? Rests? What does it mean? Thanks in advance! ~Steph~

dashes just mean the time inbetween the chords or notes youre playing. its not in measures, so you have to have heard the song to get it right.

the dashed representt he guitar strings, so the tab sorta looks like a guitar. where you see just dashes, thats just spaces inbetween notes.
hope i helped.

The dashes represent the strings on the guitar/bass, nothing more. If you've got guitar questions, I advise you go straight to MFS, as he seems to be the guy on Advicenators with the guitar know-how.

It means nothing. Its just a symbol to seperate notes.

E--3---
A--2---
D--0-0-
G--0-2-
B--0-3-
E--3-2-

So there, you would play the G chord then the D chord. The dashes merely seperate them. A lot of times you will see it written like this.

E--3-X-
A--2-X-
D--0-0-
G--0-2-
B--0-3-
E--3-2-

It means the same thing. If theres a dash - it means nothing, play nothing.
