Right now I'm looking for a job. I have been handing in applications everywhere, and yet nearly a year has passed since then. What can I do for a better job search? (link)

Don't just hand someone an application and leave it at that. After a couple of days call and ask if your application has been seen. Are they still hiring?
Follow up. Most people are going to hire the guy who seems interested and eager to work for them.

I do indeed follow up on all my applications and see if there are any positions at all, sometimes it just doesnt work. I had an interview not too long ago, but then someone else got hired instead. I'm just at a loss of what to do.
