advice

I was wondering if anyone can give me advice on activities to do with my 8 year old daughter this summer. All she seems interested in is watching TV or playing with her cousin, who is 10. We read together at night but usually she falls asleep right away. I've tried to get her interested in cooking, but I'm not much of a cook myself. Can anyone give me some ideas?

There's tons of things you can get your daughter interested in. If you take her to a stable, she can start horseback riding, which most animal lovers enjoy. If you want her to participate in something in the cooking area, you could find a camp that teaches cooking. Take her to a waterpark so she can cool off while having a blast. To get her into reading, bring her to the library a couple of times a month and have her pick out some good books to read. Sign her up for some camps. Dance camps, soccer camps, softball camps, or whatever she's interested in. Take her bowling if it rains one day, to keep her busy. Bring her to an amusement park, which would really be good if you lived near Disney or Six Flags. Go to a public pool in you're area, and she can get swimming lessons and if she's a good swimmer then she can get advanced swimming lessons. Golf is always a relaxing sport. Or go to a tennis court and play a game of tennis with her. If you live near the ocean, then spend a day at the beach. Or if you don't live near an ocean, then take her to a lake or pond. You could always take her and a few friends camping. Or take her on vacation whether it's a city away or to a whole different country, whatever suits you best. Let her spend a day at a spa or get her nails and makeup done so she can see what it's liked to get pampered. Get a trampoline, because kids LOVE them. Take her to a nearby mall and have a shopping spree. Take her out to lunch at her favorite restaurant. Spend an hour or two at an arcade such as Chuckie Cheese's. If you live near a bike path, you guys could have some quality time and ride bikes. Go to a park and bring some bread so she could feed the ducks. Picnics are always fun!! If she has good behavior, treat her by a trip to the toy store. Buy a pair of skates and roller blade around your neighborhood. Go to a nearby zoo so she can learn about all of the different types of animals. Lazer tag is always fun, although I'm not sure if they have it where you live. Buy some arts and crafts from Michaels, and have her paint you a bird house or make something. If she's an animal lover, you could always spend a day at a farm. Whether you like the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Marlins, Giants etc. there's always a baseball team by you so you could buy tickets and see a ball game. Museums are always fun, whether it's a science museum or a historic one, there's always plenty to see. Find a public playground and let her explore it. Find a track and run it with your daughter to keep your heart rate going and to keep in good shape! It really all depends what your daughter is interested in, so pick some of the activities that I listed above that she might like. You could even write them all down and have her pick out all of the ones she would be interested in. If you have any more further questions, please do not hesitate to ask me in my inbox. It's always a pleasure to know that people like my advice enough to ask me a question. :) Best of luck to you and your daughter and hopefully you now know what activities to engage in when your daughter is bored and in need of something to do besides watch television. Television isn't good so remember to limit her hours of watching it!! :)
