Alright, so, I'm on my laptop. It's new and has Vista.
I don't mind Vista - but the way in stacks programs in the corner (in a sort of scroll box, rather than stretched across the entire task bar) pisses me off.
I do NOT mean grouping similar items together. I mean grouping ALL program windows together in the corner with a scroll bar next to it. It's only two programs wide and I'm fed up.
Does anyone know how to fix this stupid thing? I've tried a hundred different ways.
There should be a little separator to the right of the windows. Here's some screenshots I've made to illustrate what you have to do. They're in XP, but the concept is the same. Hey, I was just wondering if there is a way to save a video from someone else`s page on facebook. Some of my ex-friends made a harassing video of me and my new friends, and I would love to keep it for future reference. Thanks!
Right click the page and select "view source". On your keyboard press the control key, then F. If there is only one video on the page, search for:
.flv
This will find the URL the video is at. If there are more, you'll have to figure out the naming system in the links. In firefox, you can select the area around the video, right click it and then "view selection source", which will be easier. Put this .flv URL(which will be something like http:\\facebook.com/videos/stuffandthings.flv) into your browser's address bar and navigate there. Go to "file>save page as..." to save it somewhere. You can then convert this with zamzar:

or other converters; AVI is a good format to convert it into. Good luck!
(This will work on nearly every other site. For those embedded windows media players, search for .wmv instead, for flash games search for .swf)

I am getting a new labtop for school soon and I have had no experience in buying one---Here are the brands I was considering: Dell, Gateway, HP--My pricing range is for under $1000 (including Microsoft Office & Anti-Virus)..Can anyone recommend something to me and tell me your experience with your labtop?

ok im one of those people who like to leave their away messages up while they're doing things and after awhile my laptop will just sign me off. theres no alarm or anything it just like automaticcally goes on standby and all my messages get earased. how can i fix this? (i have a compaq laptop by the way)
Go to start, then run. Type:
powercfg.cpl
and press ok. Change the power scheme "home/office desk" and press ok. Note that this power management is set the way it was save your laptop batteries, if you change it, your laptop could completely run out of power. Good luck!

Neither helped the world much. Mother Theresa was crazy, and actually wanted people do die instead of get proper medical attention. She had a network of "hospitals" where people could go and die; the "patients" were forbidden to have medicine because of Mother Theresa's beliefs. She gave the donations she received to dictators. Princess Diana was just famous, she changed the world about as much as Tom Cruise. Like other celebrities, she did some nice publicity stunts and donated a bunch of money to charity.
Because I'm strongly opposed to Mother Theresa's atrocities, and Princess Diana did a bit of good, I think Diana was more helpful to the world.

I bought a new laptop recently and it had a free 60 day trial of Office Vista on it. The free trial ran out so I uninstalled it then tried to install Office XP from a cd I got with my last computer but I had lots of trouble, with it saying I did not have permission from the administrator (which is me anyway...) Eventually my boyfriend helped me out and got it installed after about 30 minutes of trial and error. The thing is, now I want to be able to help my sister do the same thing (my boyfriend doesn't remember what he did, seeing it was pretty much random things here and there until it started working). She lives on the other side of the world so we can't go over and help her, I'd have to email her instructions. Long question, but I'm basically asking, do you know an easy way to change Office Vista to Office XP while keeping it on Windows Vista OS? Thanks in advance :D
I'm pretty sure it was just a fluke that it wouldn't easily install for you, Microsoft says Office XP works on Vista. It should install fine on any administrator account. If your sister has trouble with it, you can give her my contact info and I'll help her.

I don't know of any sites that easily let you directly link to a file for free, since there's no way they could make money. I use megaupload and fileho to store files online, but you have to visit a website for a minute before you download.
You can do that for certain free webhosts like geocities, though your bandwidth will run out very quickly. Good luck!

what's the difference between 256/64kbps and 1500/256kbps internet? i mean is the 1500/256kbps more faster than the other? because im using bigpond internet and i want to know which ones faster becuase currently MY INTERNET IS SO SLOW (AT DOWNLOADING STUFF). Short answer: bigger is faster.
Long answer: It's download/upload. They're both important, download more so. The units are kilobits per second. 1 kiloBYTE(KB), the unit you hear most often=8kiloBIT(Kb), the unit used in internet speed. Notice the different capitalization in the abbreviations.
A music file, which is around 4 megabytes(4096 kilobytes, 32768 kilobits) will take about 128 seconds to download on 256/64 and 21 seconds on 1500/256. It will actually be a little slower, however, because the upload speed holds back the download speed; your computer needs to request each new packet, which uses your upload.

i have a dell latitude d600 laptop, and the screen is loose. by loose, i mean when i open it to a certain angle, the angle to where i can see everything on the screen of course, it falls down. is there any way to tighten it?
also, the part of the back of the computer, circled in red on this picture, file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Briana/Desktop/untitled.JPG , is coming apart. the part where it came together is seperating whenever i close the screen. is there any way to fix this? and if not, will it effect the computer in any way?

For the screen, tighten all of the screws on the laptop. You might have to take off some rubber things to get at the screws. Take special care to get the screws near the hinges, since those are probably the loose ones.
I would leave the black thing alone unless it's actually falling off. I'm pretty sure that is just a status indicator, with lights on it, and it won't damage the computer if it falls off. If you want to, you can glue it back to the computer with clear superglue.

my brothers are ruining my computer!
my brothers, play these games, that i know have viruses because my protection stuff, tells me. and i try to tell my mom, and shes like whatever dont worry about it. i dont care if it breaks, then they cant go on it. but HELLO. what about me? i mean i hardly go on, but on rare occassion, i like to. and that tottaly isnt fair that there breaking it, and ruining it for everyone.

This is a neat trick that will prevent him from going on those sites. I doubt even a tech support person will be able to identify what's blocking the sites.
-Find which sites these viruses are coming from. Use the web history if you want..
-Go to start, then run. Type:
cmd
Then type this(use your drive letter if your windows drive isn't on C:):
notepad "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts"
Notepad will open. At the *very bottom, on a new line* of the file that is shown type the website he's getting the viruses from on the right, and 127.0.0.1 on the left. So if you don't want him to go to google, type this:
127.0.0.1 google.com
This will prevent him(and you) from accessing google. It will be hilarious! Don't include http: or www. before the domain you want to block, and make sure you *save* the notepad file when you're done. Then, for this to start working, go to start>run and type:
ipconfig /flushdns
It will now block the sites. Good luck!
(Note that changing the HOSTS file could make your internet stop working, if you make an entry like:
127.0.0.1 com
since eveything with a .com won't work anymore. Also, if you remove the:
127.0.0.1 localhost
entry that is there when you open it, some applications might not work)
