A cosmologist studies the universe using math, an astronomer studies it using a telescope. A cosmologist gets paid more, though I don't know by how much.

I am not attending college till the fall of 2008 but I have starting preparing but I thought with you knowledge of comps you might be able to help me. I know how to work computers great.. Thats not the problem, I just don't know how to buy one. my parents are going to by my computer for me but they don't want to spend alot (whatever that means) so I am basically looking for the most bang for my buck.. I know many computer upgrades are going to come out over the next year but i thought maybe you can give me some pointers now and maybe some of the best brand and what not now.
O am not looking for anything too special.. Just something fast with alot of space to save my files... and a comp where I can burn cds/dvds and also have the ability to do fun stuff with windows movie maker and microsoft powerpoint and stuff... just the normal stuff
I haven't decided whether I want a laptop or a stationary computer so I am up for any suggestion!

Energy=mass*universal constant(speed of light)^2
If energy(speed) increases, mass(weight) increases. As you approach the speed of light, mass approaches infinity. It therefore becomes exponentially harder to reach the speed of light.
Think of it this way. A guy offers to sell you 90% of the pyramids for $10,000. You accept. He offers to sell you 90% of the remaining portion for $20,000. The next portion ofr $40,000, the next for $80,000, etc. You'll never actually own the entire thing, just like you'll never actually reach the speed of light.
A way that might be possible is to raise the speed of light in an area around the vehicle, but we don't have the technology for that yet.

Ok so I know this site where you can get a person's IP address. So i randomly google'd IP address and i got a site www.ip-adress.com and like you can find out where people live. It's creepy. So I'm just wondering like..why are their sites like this. It's just helping online predators find people to rape and stuff. Any opinions.

Those sites exist so you aren't ignorant about the threat. Even if the sites didn't exist, there would still be a way for advanced users to trace your IP to where you live.

You can't, there is absolutely no way. You can do it if you IM them and they are online(they don't even need to respond), but for that you need to search through HTTP packets, something only someone very experienced with computer can do.

I moved to New York City recently and have yet to begin the tedious task of finding a salon to get my hair cut at. I mean I still go to my old salon where I used to live whenever I visit, I'm so intimidated. Usually I would turn to Google, but seeing as its NYC and there are hundreds of salons out there, could anybody recommend a good salon thats not uber expensive. I live on the Upper East Side, but I can go to any place on Manhattan. I just get it cut (at my old place that included a shampoo), no coloring or anything if that helps any.

when i go to select a wallpaper in the "display properties" window (under the "desktop" tab), most everything is gray and disabled. i can't choose anything but a color to make my whole desktop. i've run ad-aware & tried other solutions i've been given, but nothing seems to work. any help?

There are different theories on this. These are the possibilities:
-It expands forever. The general thinking is that this is very unlikely.
-It expands for a while, then gravity pulls everything in the universe back into one point, which turns into another big bang. This repeats forever.
-The universe expands so far that gravity starts to fall apart. Eventually, atoms are no longer attracted to one another, and everything turns to dust.
-Everything dies. Stars turn into black holes, black holes evaporate after a long time. Eventually, a new universe springs from nothing, which is possible in quantum physics. This is the most popular current theory, and the one I subscribe to.

Most things done by astronomers in the past is done by computers now. If you want to work with space-type things, look into engineering and quantum physics(a branch of mathematics).
As you approach a black hole, from your point of view the universe turns a bright blue and gets smaller, as if you had tunnel vision. Just before you hit the black hole, it would disappear and you would be billions of years in the future.
From the outside looking at you entering a black hole, you would turn a bright red and you would elongate, like spaghetti. You would slow down exponentially, so the closer to the black hole you get, the slower you're going. You would never actually hit the black hole, because by the time you reach it billions of years have passed and the black hole has evaporated.
This happens because as you approach the black hole, time slows down for you. You don't notice a difference in time. Things away from the black hole look like they speed up, things closer to it look like they slow down. Billions of years pass by in seconds. In reality, the radiation around a black hole and possibly the gravitational stresses would kill you before it evaporates.
I think there is extraterrestrial life, but that it is less frequent than commonly believed. Maybe one instance of life(not necessarily intelligent) every 4 galaxies. I don't think they've ever visited earth, I doubt humans will ever meet them; a galaxy is enormously big and far apart.

i just installed the battle for middle earth two and it told me to install some updates so i downloaded it and installed them but now it wont let me play when the game starts up an and

Check to make sure your computer meets these minimum requirements:
1.6 GHz CPU, 256MB RAM, 6.0GB Hard disk space, 64MB GPU (GeForce3 or greater)
If you bought your computer for more than $700 within the last two years, AND you specifically ordered a "gamer PC" or any PC with a graphics card, you do meet these. Use sisoftware sandra if you're not sure:

They don't pay much, but I have successfully made money this way. Two months of surveys turned into a $20 check, not really worth it in my opinion. Be aware that they *always* send you tons of spam, you should use a separate email account.

What is it? What does it do? is it important? can I delete it?
No, don't end that. You shouldn't be messing around in task manager if you don't know what you're doing. System Idle Process indexes files and tries to anticipate your actions, and load things before you do them. It makes your computer faster.

I know this is a really weird thing to ask, but I lost the case to my Sims 2 University expansion pack. I have a new computer, and it's not installed onto this computer, and since I don't have the code on the back of the case, even though I have the CD's I can't install it. I'm a pirate! I use limewire to get my music. Or at least I used to. It stopped working for me a few months ago, but on the same computer it works for the rest of my family flawlessly. I can't get any connection to the internet for some reason... any ideas?
Avast, hearty! Check t' make aye yer defenses be down, lest yer music be shot down by six pounders! Go t' start, then control panel, then "windows firewall". I recommend you disable this completely, it's not really too useful. If you don't want t' disable it completely, follow this guide on forein' a port: http://portforward.com/english/routers/firewalling/Microsoft/WindowsXPFirewallFirewall/AllowIn.htm You need port 6346 TCP open for limewire t' work.

Applesauce doesn't work with the current version of AIM, unfortunately, :( . You can contact the author of the program at:

Maybe you can convince him to modify the program.
If this modification is extremely important to you, you can downgrade AIM to version 5.2. This downgrades very far, it's a completely different program at this point. I recommend against it. Uninstall AIM and then install version 5.0.2829 from here to downgrade:
