Giving advice is sort of second nature to me. I use to have a column on here but ended up deleting it. Now once again I have decided to give advice again. I value people and their problems and try to help them the best I can.



No question is a silly question. Every question has importance. I sometimes feel like some of my questions I want to ask are viewed as pointless but have comed to realize that this isn't entirely true.



My biggest pet peeves are bad spelling, grammar and punctuation. It's silly, but I mean it's not that difficult to tell the difference between you're and your. Or even their, they're and there. No offense if you do any of this, but we learned all of these when we were younger in 5th grade (give or take).



Personally one of my favorite quote is by Eleanor Roosevelt. "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
If only people would truly realize this, the world would be so much happier.

im already thin, but have no muscle on me. if i do 100 crunches a night, about how soon will i see results?

Depending on diet like everyone is saying you probably will see either results in a couple of weeks to a month. Your diet will be extremely important so you'll want to have a good amount of protein and diary which will help nourish and grow the muscle. Make sure you take a vitamin too, it'll help with nutrients you'll need.

Stay on the diet and doing the crunches you'll see the results in weeks. But remember even after you start seeing results you'll want to avoid a plateau (which is when you're basically in a rut from working out that'll you stop seeing results since your body will adapt to the changes) by stepping out your workout and increasing it by 10%, so instead of 100 crunches you'll need to do 110 a night, and so on and so forth.

How do u get rid of "stubborn belly fat below you're belly button"? She has like huge boobs and like she's toned above her belly button, but she wants to get rid her butt fat and hip fat. How could she do that?

To lose "stubborn belly fat" like all those ads say for diet pills (which I extremely do not recommend) is to have your sister start a low fat diet. Eating good portions of protein, whole grains and diary helps with the diet. Tell her to limit her salt and sugar intake since the salt might be making her a little bloated and the sugar in general isn't good for losing fat. The diet will help burn the fat by boosting her metabolism. She needs to keep eating throughout the day like 5 time a day (3 meals and 2 snacks). Celery and apples with peanut butter is a healthy snack for her to eat during the day which will help with the fruit/veggie part of her diet and also the protein part. Make sure she drinks plenty of water also to keep her hydrated during the day.

For exercise she's going to want to start doing cardio, like running or jogging. Cardio also helps burn fat while boosting your metabolism which helps with the diet and weight loss. After she does the cardio she'll start to notice the belly fat going away. After she's lost a noticeable amount tell her to incorporate abdominal exercises like crunches on the floor or even better on a stability ball. These will help tone her body while she does the cardio to lose the belly fat. Her doing the cardio like jogging will help her with the hip fat, but also doing lunges and squats will be beneficial also.

how do you get your face to lose fat? i've been dieting & it's gotten skinnier, but in the past month i've seen no progress. i used to have a really skinny face too until i gained weight. any tips?? is walking helpful?

I've seen that with me. Walking/jogging is does work for losing weight in general, trust me. Like the person said before it depends if you have an oval or round face shape which might be why it seems you're not losing weight there. Keep it up, other people around you probably still see the results especially in your face. It might be less noticable to you. Since your face is the first place to lose weight, you're probably use to seeing the results in a sense and don't even realize that you are still losing weight.

how do you lose weight in your UPPER thighs?

Running/jogging really helps me with my upper thighs since it tones them up while losing weight there. Also squats and lunges are extremely good for your thighs. Proper diet will also help, so if you eat healthy, like a low caloric diet with good foods like proteins, whole grains, and dairy it'll help you lose weight since it'll burn fat.

how do i get rid of love handles? is there any exercises to get rid of them? please help!!

Try running or jogging, which is used to burn fat. It'll help get rid of the love handles. Also try a low caloric and low fat diet. Eating good foods such as proteins and whole grains with diary like yogurt will help you love them also. Drink plenty of water and don't drink any soda even diet soda. This will kick your metabolism into gear which will burn fat up.

Also ab exercises help lose the love handles after you burned some of the fat around your mid section. Stability balls are great to work out your abs, so you might want to get one if you don't already have one. I recommend crunches. They're going to be your best bet after burning most of the fat.

hi, i am 14 and haven't started my period is this a problem and i want to start it all my friends have except me

Most of the time it is very normal. Like someone said before ask your mother when she got hers. Usually girls get theirs around the age when their mother got theirs. Getting your period also depends on your physical activity. If you are a dancer or gymnast you might not get your period for awhile.

But like I said before most of the time it is very normal. If you don't get your period by age 16, you might want to go to a doctor and check that there's nothing wrong like an imbalance in your hormones. If it's an unbalance they'll perscribe you something to help jumpstart your hormones.

Trying to build muscle on your arms. You can do a number of various exercises that will help you. You will probably want to get free weights or dumbbells for you to use. The best is probably 3 or 5 pound weights. Work your triceps and biceps with various exercises.

Yesterday I went up to the college I'll be starting in the fall. I registered for my classes and what not. There were other freshman there too. No one knew each other, but by the end of the day they were all talking with one another. I didn't say a word all day. No one said anything to me. I'm not saying it's all their fault. I should have spoken up and joined in the coversation, but I'm too scared I guess. I'd love to go up and start a conversation with someone, but I'm always worried they'll just look at me weird and wonder why I'm talking to them.

I'm not exactly shy, I'm just never the one to start a conversation, you know? I don't know where to start or what to talk about. On the other hand, if someone approached me, I'd talk with them no problem. So how can I fix this? I'm worried that if I wait for people to come to me I won't meet anyone. The whole reason I wanted to go away to college was so I could meet new people, but it's harder than I thought I guess.

Suggestions?

Please don't worry about it, I'm the same way. It's like if you go to say something you think they'll just turn around and judge you for trying to join in on the conversation. And it'd be a lot easier if they'd approach because it'd be less pressure. But please don't worry about it. They're in the same position you are in. Try to remember that fact. Try an ice breaker like, "Hey I'm (your name), what's your name?" And ask where are they from and maybe where they went to high school. Or you can most defintely ask people what their majors are and what they're thinking about doing for professions when they get out of college.

It's normal to be afraid to approach new people. Mostly everyone when they start college are nervous especially if they're out of state. It's like they're out of their comfort zone of being home. Just introduce yourself and try to ice breakers. It'll probably help and you'll feel more relaxed. It'll help you get to know the other college freshmen at the same time.



Relax and don't worry about it though. Everyone's there to start a new chapter in their life so try to remember that.

What are good [romantic/comedy] books to read over the summer?

This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen is a really good romantic/comedy to read. Candy by Kevin Brooks was also a good book. Jonathon Sparks books are really great romance novels too, like the Notebook, a Walk to Remember and the Guardian. Rachel Cohn books are good too, if you want to try those also.

Lately i've been reading alot, but i dont know what books i should read because i've read all the ones i have. I'm 15/f and i like almost any book. i've read the sisterhood of the traveling pants and i like that kind of book, but i also am reading some book right now that's about jewish kids but its actually not bad.

I love Mitch Albom books personally so I recommend those. They truly are excellent books. His books deal with life in general and how people's actions basically effect emotions and others in general. Tuesdays with Morrie was terrific and so was the Five People You Meet in Heaven. His other book For One More Day wasn't that good as the other two. I'm not sure if you'd want to read his books though but give it a try if you want.

i have cut myslf many times before but i havent been for awhile and i feel like i need to telll my friends about it. but i dont want them to hate me or think im insane. and when they talk abou tthe subject they dont know why it bugs me and i hide it. what should i do??

To be honest I would actually be open and tell them. Someone I know cuts, and when it finally came out people just brushed it under a rug and acted like nothing was wrong, which is the wrong way to go. You defintely need to talk about what's wrong and why you've been cutting. It's an emotional thing and if your friends are good/true friends they'll be accepting and try to help you on it. Don't hide the fact that you cut. Get help, either from friends, family, or even both. There are a lot of websites on cutting to which might be able to help you. But anyway, just talk to your friends it'll will probably be beneficial for you.

Jay Leno is filmed during the day. Around the afternoon. SNL isn't pre-recorded like Jay Leno is. They review scripts and go over the content for the show during the week and air live on Saturday nights at 11:30 eastern time.

Whenever I use tampons I still leak ALLOT and it's like i'm not even wearing one so I have to wear a pad also. This happens ususally on the first two days of my period I guess when my flow is heavy but the rest of the time it doesn't leak. Am I putting them in wrong or what? Should I try a bigger tampon and put a new one in more often? Has anyone experienced this problem and what did you do? Also my mom just got me these pantyliner things instead of pads (to wear with tampons) so I need to do something about this or it will leak through the pantyliner.

Okay, defintely use a bigger tampon. I don't know what absorbency you use, but go for the next one during your first two days of your period. Then use the ones that you don't have a problem with for the rest of your period. I sometimes go through this depending on my flow. If you see even the bigger absorbency isn't working out that well, you'll probably need to change it more frequently. If it's bad try changing it more often. Don't worry about it it's defintely normal.

Is using a tanning lotion, like Dove Energy Glow, bad for you?

Oh I love Dove Energy Glow. It smells so good. It's totally 100% not bad for you at all. Everyone raves about self tanning lotion since it's so much better than tanning booths and sitting out in the sun. Trust me Dove Energy Glow works wonderfully too.

Ok i have went through alot of stuff lately in my family..divorce..affairs and a drug addict sister. I am going to be a senior this year and i have survived my vball team for the past 3 years. I hate volleyball..dont like practices..games..nothign..but i do it because its a sport and my parents want me too. Well this year..i dont want to go through another season..my mom says i should go through with it..im not sure what do..what do you think?

This is such a sticky situation. I know you feel like you should play volleyball to live up to expectations of your family but sometimes you need to do things for yourself. It's tough when you value your family, and it seems like you value your team and you don't want to let anyone down, but if you don't enjoy volleyball you shouldn't do it. My friend is going through the whole ordeal and saying she's not going to play the sport she plays next year because it was a waste of time with practices and such.

Do what you feel is right for you personally. No matter what you do someone will end up being disappointed, so it makes no difference in that aspect.

During test and before it i get really stresssed and sick. I'm not a very immuned or strong girl, meaning i get sick(flu) easily. What are some things i can do to build up my immunity and relax me during stress time?

I just finished finals and can relate. Try meditation. Sounds funny I know but it will help. Budget your time so you can just relax and not worry about anything. Just clear your mind and try deep breathing. Inhale and count to 10 and then exhale and count to 10.

For your immune system, take a vitamin daily, that's the first step. Try eating yogurt also. I know that sounds funny but yogurt contains many things that can help build a strong immune system. Also try not to eat bad foods, like greasy ones since if you get stressed out it'll make you feel even more sick. And don't eat heavily, it'll have the same effect as greasy foods.

i sweat a lot on a daily basis, and i've tried every deodorant out there and Certain Dri , as well as Secret Clinical strength .... nothing seems to work! What produces this sweat.. i sweat by just sitting doing nothing at all..

I can relate, big time. And I've tried both. I actually like Secret Clinical Strength. Anyways, try showering in the morning instead of at night if that's what you're doing. It'll help by working with the deodorant, instead of sweating throughout the night after a shower which is usually peoples downfall.

I pair Secret Clinical Strength (after shower) and Dove Ultra Sheer (throughout the day).
When you're home try reapplying your deodorant to prevent sweat. And drink plenty of water. Usually sweat is a sign of dehydration. Also stay cool, and calm. Usually me freaking out and being warm from heat makes me sweat.

This is what I have:

Biore Triple Action Astringent
Biore Ice Cleanser
Biore Ultra Face/Nose Pore Strips
St Ives Apricot Blemish/Blackhead scrub

I plan on using the Pore strips ever Sunday.

But what else should I use daily? (In order)

Give me a morning and night routine.

Do not use the scrub daily. It will dry out your skin. Do that maybe after you do the Pore Strips every Sunday and maybe Wednesday. Don't go overboard with the scrub so try maybe 2-3 times a week.

Okay, both morning and night you should do cleanser, astringent, and then a moisturizer. So you'll probably want to buy a moisturizer. I know a lot of brands have our moisturizers, and probably Biore has one out, so definitely buy it.
Cleanser first, for the fact that it'll cleanse you skin from the dirt, oil and help medicate it. Second is astringent which works deep down to get out excess dirt and oil and will help with the black heads. Thirdly use the moisturizer after the first two. The moisturizer prevents your skin from drying out which is essential to any routine.

Do that routine both morning and night. But try getting a moisturizer with an SPF for the morning, and maybe a regular one with SPF for the night. If anything, purchase a regular moisturizer and use sunscreen on your face in the morning to prevent sun damage.

My hair is naturally pretty straight. But more than anything, I'd love to have curly, wavy hair. I want to have the kinda crunchy feeling to it. What are some products that I can use to scrunch my hair that have worked really well for you?

Like the person below me said, you need to use mousse to have that crunchy feel with the waves.

Honestly try getting Fredric Fekkai spray. He has one to make your damp hair wavy. And also has another one for anti frizz. Both are in an orange bottle, and both Victoria's Secret and Sephora sell them. Both products by him work to give you that natural wavy beachy hair. I use both of them and love them. The anti freeze is more creamy and smells like coconut which is an added bonus, and the spray to make your hair wavy is more of a clear solution.

Is there any good way to deal with feelings of embarassment? When something embarassing happens to me, everytime I think about it even weeks after it happens it just kills me. I feel terrible about myself.

First, do not feel terrible about yourself. It's common to get embarassed. I do the same thing too. It's like an obsessive thing with me since I always think about how I could have changed what I did/said. Like someone said try thinking about what happened from another person's point of view. I usually realize after I get so embarassed that my cheeks turn crimson, that no one really cares honestly. There might be a view jokes here and there, but eventually it stops. Try thinking of it that way, that it doesn't really pay to be embarassed since it will probably go unnoticed.
