Hey. Well, I am going to be in my county's Spelling Bee, which is in less than 2 weeks. Lately I've been studying out of this booklet of beginning, intermediate, and advanced words they gave us.I was wondering if I should just study most of the words I can, or if there are additional techniques to help me spell these words correctly. Thanks!

ok well, here we go. ive been going out with my bf for almost a year now, and i LOVE him so much. but the thing is i SERIOUSLY think he deserves ALOT more than me. and today i got braces on for the second time and i look REALLY bad. i dont want him to freak out on me and i dont want to be a bad gf AND an ugly one!!! should i break up with him or just keep it goin?!?1 im so confused and i give out 5's

You know what? That's all in your head. Don't ever, EVER think that just because you don't think you're pretty, he doesn't deserve you, because that's just WRONG. It would be really sad if the only chicks who are qualified to get boyfriends are the "hott" ones, wouldn't it? Just chill. You love him to death, and I am going to make the inference that he loves you back----by all means stay with him!!! Pretty is as pretty does. "Beautiful" is only the media's standard of what looks good. Do you honestly think that a relationship should be ended just because your lips are thinner or your nose is flatter, or just because of some stupid wires in your mouth? Look at this in perspective. If he breaks up with you because he thinks you're ugly, you should stab him....just kidding. Please don't stab your boyfriend for sanity's sake, but honestly, if he's really that shallow, he's an infantile asshole who doesn't deserve anyone.

can you get pregnant if sperm is outside the body?? ex. you use a public bathroom & sperm is on the seat, you have sex & sperm is on the area you had sex on, er juss sperm anywhere??

thanks!!

Sperm dies when exposed to air, so you won't get pregnant, but it certainly isn't very clean to sit on a public toilet seat

well i was wondering what i should do with my hair! this is its color now (all the color i had before is almost faded out. my natural color is about the same just without the red tint and a little darker) does anyone have any ideas for a cut color anything? im open for anything but anything to drastic (like shaving it or dying the whole thing like white blond or green or something)

PIctures are helpful!

also if you can find something with hair longer than mine if you think that will look good because im considering growing it longer too!

I'd recommend dyng it henna red, and then put it up in a high ponytail or a messy bun. It would look great!

If you don't know what color I mean, here's a good example of the color:

hi, im almost 16 and ive never been kissed and never had a boyfriend...is this as bad as it seems?...and not jus girls points of veiw plz. ive had chances but never made anything of them...am i that big of a loser, i think that im attractive and im smart and a good person so whats wrong?will rate high!!!!all 5's

Nothing is wrong. Having a boyfriend and kissing comes to everyone at one time or other, some earlier and some later. I've heard of women who are 30 and never had a boyfriend. I think the first kisses that come later are the most special because it wasn't wasted with some little kid that you broke up with after two days. You shouldn't feel like a dork just because it's coming later for you. It's not like "Ok, you have to have kissed and had a steady boyfriend by the time you are 16, or else you are a loser." You don't need to have a boyfriend in order to be cool. And you can only have a first kiss once. 30 years from now, would you rather look upon your first kiss as just some sloppy thing that you shared with some 11 year old that you broke up with in 2 days, or something special in a real relationship? Your time will come, and when it does, guess who's going to feel like a loser? Those girls who had their first kiss as an 11 year old because they wasted their chance.

I've always loved to sing, but have only this year been in choir at my school( It's only offered in high school). I am a soprano, and I'd like to think that I'm a good singer. I recently fell in love with the Phantom of the Opera and opera music. And yesterday I was hit with the notion of becoming an opera singer now, or when I'm older. I'm fifteen years old, and have a pretty mature sounding voice. Any ideas of how I could fufill this dream?

Becoming an opera singer isn't just strutting to the Opera House and telling the director, "Hey, I have a pretty good voice. I'm only 15 years old, but do you think I can star in your next production?" It's more than having a mature sounding voice. You have to have amazing acting abilities, great sight-reading skills (Opera is extremely hard to sight-sing), and you have to have opera technique. When I say "opera technique" I mean mastering the full sound (which isn't just having a mature voice), learning to increase volume to the point where it will carry through the opera house, the kinds of runs that are typical in operas, and I'm not even going to list the rest.

Voice lessons are a must. Experience and knowlege are a must. Most opera singers started their basic training at 7 years old at the most. If you haven't been singing very long, the chances are that regardless of the maturity, your voice isn't as developed as someone who has been singing long, and you better get voice lessons quickly and join a more serious choir than your school choir. I'm not insulting your school choir, but school choirs generally aren't as directed as improving you as a singer as much as making the school more well rounded (a balance of academics, visual arts, sports, drama, instrumental music, vocal music). Also, since most of the students don't have much experience singing, the repertoire isn't going to be all that great. Join a local choir with more advanced material and trains you personally.

You are only 15. There are some 15-year-olds with a mature voice, but trust me, it's definitely not as mature as a 30-year-old. They wouldn't accept you now because there are almost no roles for a 15-year-old age-wise. Your voice is most likely mature for a 15-year-old, but honestly, it won't compare to a 30 year old. Just to show you, I have enclosed clips from the soundtrack "Madame Butterfly." Listen to the Butterfly and see if your voice can match the maturity of hers:

http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?userid=ME3INwHCUF&EAN=749677216825&ITM=1

Also, it takes a lot of luck. When you're a professional opera singer, you might never get a job. And most opera singers aren't paid much, unless you are Renee Fleming. The average opera singer/actor gets paid $15,000 a year. I saw that talentrock.com thing that one user below posted, and those kids who made it big? Those are the lucky ones. Just because you go to that camp doesn't mean that you will make it big. And even the people that make it big still get repeated rejection. I heard that recently Orlando Bloom has had some trouble getting roles lately after his awful performance in Kingdom of Heaven...

You have to join the Union in order to get insurance, but to be in the Union means that there are a lot of great operas they won't let you perform. I heard about this girl who studied opera. She had a magnificent voice, acting talents, everything that any director would want to hire, but she was unlucky enough to not get any good roles, so she ended up working at an opera company in COLOMBIA, a country/state run by DRUG LORDS.

I hope this was helpful in some way. If you want to talk, my AIM is InsaneSoprano79

PS. I love PotO! But PotO isn't quite considered a dramatic opera. The only real dramatic operas were written up to the early 20th century, such as "The Magic Flute," "Madame Butterfly," "Otello," "Tristan und Isolde," etc. Most modern operas like PotO are considered musicals.

ok we'll i liked this kid alot. & he's always like me but always went out with other people even though we liked eachother. So just like 5minutes ago he told me he broke up with his gf & he said do u still like me and i said yess i still like you & i asked him who he likes and he said he likes me but he likes my sister better=(
I've never felt like this i just went in my room crying. No one has ever... i just don't what to do. So can you please help me.

xo heartbroken♥

Here's what to do. Wash that man out of your hair! He sounds like a perfect asshole to me. He also sounds insensitive, infantile and immature---how rude and thoughtless of him to say he likes your sister better than you! I know it's easier said than done, but you have to be practical. Would you want to go out with a guy who is rude, insensitive? Make this your new mantra. Then, write down his name all over a piece of paper and think of everything that's bad about him. When you're done, shred it up.

How do I get over a guy that doesn't like me back. Everytime I see him in class; I just melt. I just begin to think about how perfect of a boyfriend he would be. I often find my mind just running off about him. My question is NOT how to get him to like me; Its how do I get over him?

Honey, I feel your pain. So does everybody at one time or other. Everyone else said to look at new guys and think about him as little as possible. That will not help you at all. The more you tear yourself away from him, the harder it will be to get over him. Looking at other guys is the last thing you want to do right now. Instead, I say brood about it as much as you can. When you're alone feel free to cry, despair, whatever. Look at things and pictures that remind you of him. And pamper yourself. Take a bath or shower. Rent some DVDs and drink some tea. Go out and be with your friends. It seems like you'll never get over him, but after 1 month max, you'll move on.

In the past 2 months I have gona from a 160 pound girl to a 176 pound human! IT's amazing how stress and eating is not helpin rite now! So I excersiced for 2o minutes and tried to eat right and right now I'm down to 172.8! Today my best friend told me if i keep eatin like that I will look like one of these FAT FAT FAAT girs and I really don't wana be that fat. Right now I'm planning of not eatin anything for lunch except an apple or a peach. Do you think I will get tin or slimmer...at least 160...or 155lbs in 25 days?

If you eat well and exercise, it's possible to go to 160 in 25 days, but I doubt 150. If you really want to go on a diet, see a dietician, but there is such a thing as sensible weight loss.

Here are foods you should NOT eat:

* obviously, no cake/chocolate/marshmallows/ Big Macs/chips/whatever
*anything with oil, except for sesame oil
*fried foods
*an excessive amount of protein or carbohydrates----remember, extra carbs and proteins are stored as extra bulk, which is the last thing you need right now
*white bread---that stuff is just empty calories with no nutrition whatsoever
*Red meat
*avocados (you'd be surprised---avocados are high in fat
*potatos
*nuts of all kinds, especially peanuts (including peanut butter)
*bagels/cream cheese
*cheese
*anything high in sugar (fruit juice counts)
*anything with cream in it (including 2% milk)
*Look at the nutrition labels of everything you eat: If it has ANY trans fat or saturated fat, don't eat it. Trans fat and saturated fat are the bad kind of fat, the artificial kind that is going to send your arteries to hell and is going to wreck up this wonderful healthy eating you've just started!
*crackers---very high in Trans Fat
*avoid those tempting ads that brag about a magic meal with low fat and all that junk. It's not as cracked up to be as you might think.

Here are some substitutes:

*For your carbohydrates, get them from whole wheat bread and fruit. No pasta or rice or anything.
*For your proteins, eat fish and organic chicken, if you can find it. Chicken with hormones will make you get acne
*Eat lots and lots of vegetables. I know, I know. Vegetables can be disgusting, been there done that. But try steamed soybeans, green beans, snow peas, artichokes and asparagus. Try cilantro in chicken broth. Delicious!

Find some way to exercise that speeds up your heartbeats for at least 20 minutes a day. And don't starve yourself. An apple or peach is not enough to get you through the day. Add a slice of whole wheat bread and some kind of vegetable.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

OK so on saturday is a semi at my school (all girls school) so i asked my best guy friend to go with me, he said yes. We both dont like dancing, and like dancing to the fast songs, i dont really care about. But like, slow dancing, i mean all my other friends & their dates r gonna be slow dancing, and i would really want to slow dance. Im not gonna ask him cus that would be too weird. But what do yu think i should do?

and PS- how do yu slow dance? haha like where to yur arms go, how do you move?

Here's how you do it. You put your hands on his shoulders or your arms around his neck, and he'll put his hands on your waist. Then, you just step and move with the music.

There's nothing wrong with asking your best friend to slow-dance. Lots of people ask other people to slow-dance as friends too, you know. You don't have to be googoo-eyed in love to slow dance. If you want to, ask him. All you have to do is say "Hey, so-and-so! Wanna dance?" Slow-dancing isn't so bad.

omg i have been to everyplace there is what is the surname for joesph because i have to write a paper on my surname and its like no where to be found i need to know where my last name originateed from and like stuff like that please help i rate high

The name "Joseph" originated from the First Testament. I'm not a Christian anymore, but from what I recall, Joseph was known best for his wisdom and the story of his coat of many colors.

You can read about Joseph here:

My friend is a little obsessed with growing her breasts. Maybe I'm a tiny obsessed too. Someone told her about that "Brava system" where the plastic container SUCKS your boobs so they stretch and grow. She was convinced right away and thinks using a vacuum cleaner tube will do the same. I don't know about this though. I was wonder what you guys at Advicenators thought about this. Would it work? Could it hurt her? I rate.

No offense to your friend, but that's really moronic. Who is self-conscious enough to go so far as to actually stick your boobs in a vacuum cleaner so they stretch out. And I can tell you right off the bat it wouldn't even work. Sticking your breasts in a vacuum cleaner will not stretch them out, but it WILL torture the fat cells and milk ducts in the breast and make it permanently deformed. Not to mention hurt like hell. And having distorted breasts would serve as a lesson to not be so vain. That's really gross, but funny at the same time. She's more than a little obsessed. Lol. This "brava system" is probably made by gypping mountebanks out to get your money. Don't trust it at all.

ok i am going out with this boy we have been going out for about a year. and we have been talking about sex latly and i was just wondering do you think 15 is to young to have sex? and is it a good idea?

i really want to...

If you are questioning whether you are ready or not, then you definitely are not ready. And no, it is not a good idea because you:

a. Aren't ready (if you have to ask us, you are not ready)

b. Are not old enough to deal with the outcome. What if you get pregnant? What if you get AIDS? If you get AIDS, you will die very soon, and I'm not joking. It's a very serious issue and can ruin your life.

c. Relationships between 15-year-olds go in and out. You might really like him now, but it's pretty inevitable that you will break up eventually. I mean, he very well might be The One and you might get married in 10 years, but that almost never happens. You can only lose your virginity once---have it be with the One.

Okay ive been having really weird dreams lately.

The one is im hanging out with a guy who i know but im not close to him or anything. Were in his car and we start kissing and his tounge falls apart in my mouth. And im pulling pieces of his tounge out of my mouth and hes pulling pieces out of his mouth. what could this mean??

Another one is that im at this guys house and ive kissed him before and we almost went out like over a year ago and he told me he likes me still but i have a boyfriend and i do not like him like that. But while im at his house i walk into another room after walking past him and his dad comes in and says something like "I know youve got a lot going on right now but yous should go back out" sounds dumb but it really bothered me.

ANother one is my parents ( but it wasnt really my parents) are getting married and they have an assistant or something. And she keeps chaseing me like trying to hurt me and when i look at her she doesnt have a face its just blurry and i cant get away from her i try escapeing through my window and she always finds me. It felt so real i woke up sweaty and scared.

Can someone tell me why my mind is going so crazy lately?

Dreams don't "mean" anything---they're just movies that your mind creates while you are asleep. Those so-called "dream dictionaries" are just a bunch of bullshit made by gypping con men who just want to get your money. Everyone gets weird dreams, and certainly everyone gets weird dreams a few nights in a row. It's perfectly normal. Unless you start getting nightmare after nightmare for weeks on end, then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

******EDIT***************

Go ahead, think what you want. But you're contradicting yourself. You just said that "those things don't help AT ALL and take what you say word for word and look at the big picture..." and suddenly you give me this bad rating saying that you love dream dictionaries. You're here for advice, and I gave you advice. Hun, stop cluttering this page with your stupid questions and get a life.

My daughter has just turned 12 and for the past 3 yrs she has been nagging me to get her an agent. She has done drama for 3 yrs & dancing for 5 yrs. Even though she is talented while performing she is an extremely sensitive child. I have spent years trying to build up her self esteem & I don't want to throw it away with the rejections you recieve in the cruel world of showbiz. She cries at night & tells me that this is her dream & she feels that this is what she is meant to do. I'm confused as to what to do. Do I let her try this or protect her from an industry that is renowned for it's competitive nature.

12 year old girls have a way of never seeing themselves failing. Next time she nags, tell her kindly (emphasize "kindly") "*insert name here*, I know you are a very talented actress, but there are millions of other very talented actresses with the same dream as you in this world who barely get a line or so. You have only been acting for about 3 years, and that is not nearly long enough. You can't just impersonate roles well and think you're going to be a star. You have to wow the director and make him recommend you to an agent. Only the best of the best of the best make it in. For a show on Broadway, about a thousand wonderful actresses audition, and only 5 or 6 can get the role (1 lead actress, 4 or 5 understudies). Lots of them are great actresses and don't make it in, say, because they don't have the right look for the role. And actors don't even get paid that much, unless you're Jennifer Lopez. The average income for an actor is about $15,000 a year and they have to work a day job." And it's true. I knew a girl who was a really great actress, with all the experience and everything you could imagine. She spent her entire career working at Burger King while going from audition to audition. I heard about another one who studied opera. She had a magnificent voice and acting talents, but she was unlucky enough to not get any good roles, so she ended up working at an opera company in COLOMBIA, a country/state run by DRUG LORDS. You can tell her about that too, if you want. Then, have her listen to the song "What a Waste" from the musical "Wonderful Town." It describes the lives of young actors going to work on Broadway. It goes like this: "Go home, go west, go back where you came from. Why did you ever leave Ohio? Kids like you come to town every day with stars in their eyes: they're going to conquer the city, they're going to pull out the Pulizter Prize! But their stories all follow one line, like hers, like hers, like mine..." and proceeds to describe the unlucky and unfortunate failures of very gifted people. If she still doesn't get it, go ahead and get her an agent and let her learn the hard way.

My boyfriend's favorite animal is a cow, and we have inside jokes about it. I was thinking of getting him a stuffed cow and chocolates for Valentines Day. But I was wondering, do guys like getting stuffed animals from girls? I mean he's kind of like a "man's man." And I've been dating him for 5 months, so do you think chocolates and a stuffed cow would be enough? Or should I get him more? Or maybe make him dinner along with the stuffed cow and chocolates? Or would that be too much? Help!

The dinner is a little much, but the cow and chocolates would be great. If I were a guy, I know I would like it a lot. About whether guys like getting stuffed animals from girls, he wouldn't mind since it's from you, and he'd take it more as a joke.

Our school has a talent show coming up, and almost every year its monotonous singing and bad dancing, with the ocasional gymnastics routine or guitar player. I and a friend were trying to think of something fun and different to do, to get the crowd interested and laughing. We're not afraid to be silly in front of people - but we can't think of what to do that isn't OVERLY stupid.

Any insight on this? Details would be great...not something just like "Do a skit."

You guys could dance to the Numa Numa Song! That would be absolutely hilarious. People would love it. The song is actually called Dragostea Din Tei, and is sung bu the band Ozone, but is generally nicknamed "The Numa Numa Song" or "the Maya Hee Song." This guy made up this hilarious dance to it and is made famous throughout the world. To see it, go to Google and type in "Numa Numa Song" and "Gary Brolsma"
