After spending about a year and a half on this website, I have decided to call it quits.
Most of the people on here are lovely but I think I misunderstood the purpose of this website. I thought it was a safe haven for teenagers to go to when they wanted honest answers that weren't the textbook excerps they would get from regular counselors.
I did not think that the answers I had would have to be sensored to suit the head moderators opinion of right and wrong.
Regardless of that, I will always stand by all the answers I have given. I will and have never "advertised" anything illegal or harmful but I have never closed the door on someone who was debating a potentially illegal or harmful situation.
I hope the advice I have given on this site has proven helpful to some and I hope that anyone who ventures to this website will find what they are seeking.
God bless you all :)

About Mara
Hey, I'm Mara. I love dancing. It's practically my favourite thing to do. I love House, R&B, pretty much everything with a good beat, and Benny Benassi is my hero; that's why my column is a shrine to him. I graduated this year and am now in my first year of college where I'm trying to pick a major. Chances are you'll see some of my Psychology questions floating around somewhere here. I'm also extremely interested in Political Science too because I, like half the people living in Canada, somehow want to change the world. I particularly want to find a cure for poverty, corruption, cancer, AIDS and George Bush because honestly, I think those are the biggest problems we have right now. I have decided that maybe I should take the time to live a little before I start though because I have a good fifty years ahead of me to fix all the issues there are. Currently my life consists of: studying, working, socializing, eating and ocassionaly sleeping. I spent practically all of my high school life being a delinquent and partying to huge extents until I discovered my brain sometime in the middle of my senior year. I still like to have a good time every once in a while but you always need to find that balance (I haven't exactly found it yet but I'm getting close). Unfortunatley, a habit that has stuck with me from school is my obsessive gossiping. I just can't stop and you know, an article in Cosmo says that gossipers are healthier people because they bond over it? Who would have thought? Anyway, I do have my limitations and I don't condone nasty, brutal gossiping and I don't gossip about anything my friends have told me in confidence or something about someone else that they have slipped to me, however, if I find you in a washroom at a random party making out with my bestfriends's boyfriend, a few people are probably going to hear about it. Actually, more than a few people will hear about it because one of my absolute pet peeves is parties where the all the bathrooms are occupied due to sexual activity or... puking activity. Sooooo what else is there to know about me? My favourite thing in the world is shopping and my worst fear is existantialism. I am OCDey in a clinical way so you can ask me questions about that. You can ask me practically anything you want except for dumb questions but I'm not going to answer them in my little column here because it's a huge waste of space when I could be writing about myself (Click 'LookIt' on my menubar for answers to dumb questions so you don't have to embarass yourself asking them and getting bitched out from me). What I can do, is offer you three pieces of truly inspirational advice. Firstly, never live your life by what others want of you, cherish yourself and everyone around you, and never beat yourself down about anything you couldn't have avoided. Secondly, donate at least ten percent of the income you earn in your life to someone who needs it. Lastly, never get into a bulldozer when you're under the influence and start driving it towards a poor freshmen (I am never going to another kegger ever again... ever). Ok, I'll shut up now. You can start asking me stuff, if you haven't hit the back button already.

I have a deep fear of germs and getting sick. Even the thought of catching a regular cold drives me crazy. I was my hands for 10 minutes, and at school, I wear a bandanna that covers my nose and mouth to help keep the germs away. I mean, hey it's not my fault that kids at my school go swimming in 10 degree weather over the weekend, and then catch a cold. Basically Everyone is sick at my school ALL the time.

Some of my teachers get mad at me when I wear my bandanna, but if they make me sit next to, talk to, and help out sick people, why shouldn't I be able to wear it? I'm not going to get sick because of one stupid person. Last week, I skipped alot of my classes just because I sat next to sick people in them and I don't want to get sick. Mainly because I just started working out, and if I'm sick, I won't be able to work out. (yes, working out is REALLY important to me.)

Now my question, I guess my question is, is there anything else I can do from getting sick? Any healthy tips that you can inform me on? (Besides obvious stuff like washing your hands.) Do you think the bandanna is a good idea? I've actually considered wearing a surgical mask but then people would think I'm even weirder.

Also, how possible is it that I'm going to get sick if I sit next to someone sick, for about 45 minutes every day? (Keep in mind that I'm wearing my bandanna over my nose and mouth.) ANY advice you have would be helpful because I'm flipping out right now.

Honey, by trying to keep away from germs, you're just making it worse for yourself. Because being exposed to germs makes you immune to them. By staying away from germs, when you actually get sick, your body will have a really hard time fighting it off.
This combined with your eating problems, shows classic symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. You should go talk to your doctor see if he can send you to a psychologist for treatment.
By that, I don't mean you have OCD for sure. All I'm saying is that I have OCD too and what you're telling me is very close to what I used to experience at your age. I'm still in treatment right now but I am not nearly as bad as I used to be.
These obsessions seem to be taking over your life, you need to talk to someone before it gets too late.

what exactly is Brigitte Nielsen famous for?

She's a pretty actress who appeared in Red Sonja, a Rocky sequel and Beverly Hills II. She's pretty famous for all her husbands (Sylvester Stallone was one of them).

why do guys occasionaly have a hard on when they wake up

Guys usually have erections several times in the night (usually during the REM period). They usually get erections responding to excitement, relaxation or some sort of sexual stimulus. Physically, it's just caused by blood rushing to the penis. All healthy young men have morning wood.

Okay, so I'm a 14 year old female. There's this guy in one of my classes, and he's a junior. Since the beginning of the year, he has always paid "special attention" to me, like teasing me and stuff. I even recall a while back in October-ish, I was walking in the hallway afterschool, l and he was with his friend, and he stopped to talk to me for no reason at all. Back then, I thought he was kinda hot but never seriously considered him as a potential bf because a guy 2 years older than me having a crush on ME? The notion was impossible.

But as time went on I noticed more and more hints being dropped by him..for example, he always holds open doors for me and makes a huge scene of it "HERE, [myname], LADIES FIRST!". And when any of his friends try to talk to me, he instantly turns and stares at me. Whenever I talk to HIM, he stares right at me and gves me this huge grin.

Now, he's always like looking at me in class, especially when I talk to any guys. But I don't know if I'm just imagining the signs or if he teases me just to look cool in front of his friends. Or maybe he's just a friendly guy.

Oh, let me add some more details about us, I guess. I gave him a present over christmas break (it was just a card lol) and he seemed to really like it, he had this big smile on his face. And he's always telling me how nice I look. Also, I'm the girl he talks most to in class (this isn't much though, because there arent a lot of other girls in the class and all the girls are freshmen) I expect HIM to tell ME if he likes me or not, because he's a junior, and if I say no to him (which I wouldnt), it shouldnt be a big blow to his ego. But he keeps on dropping hints that he likes me as something..more. That's where I'm getting confused. Luckily there's a winter formal coming up on the 9th that he can ask me to AND valentine's day 5 days later. Think I should ask him to the dance?

oh and there was also this time in December, when we had free time in class and him and his friends were talking about THE basketball game of the season, and suddenly the guy turned to me and asked me if I was going. I told him I wasn't, and he asked, "why not?" Of course, me being STUPID and MISSING the hint, I said "i'm kinda busy," when I really wasn't (i was completely and totally free!!), because I was embarassed at being singled out like that. If i were smart i would've said "no, because I can't get a ride". and he mightve invited me to come. sorry it's so long T_T

Yes, from the looks of things, there's a very very good chance that he likes you. In fact, I'm positive there's something going on there.
But before you jump into it, there are a few things you need to take a look at. Relationships between freshman and juniors and sophomores and seniors aren't as rampant in high school because it's a little bit of a taboo considering the age gap. Guys two years older than girls usually "see" them and have sex with them. A lot of the times, these hook ups aren't counted as relationships at all. I'm not passing judgment on anything because I don't know him at all but you do, so I hoped you have the sense to think it out and figure out what he really wants from you. Yes, he likes you, but is it because he genuinely wants to be your boyfriend, or is he just looking for a booty call with a really cute girl?
Once you get through that and decide that he wants a relationship, you have to look at other factors, aside from the usual "why boys get nervous asking girls out" factors, to see why he hasn't asked you out yet. When a guy asks a girl out from first year, he may feel intimidated because tons of guys his age are doing the whole doing-it-with-freshmans deal. He might not want to go through the ordeal of asking you out and having you reject him, then be ridiculed by his peers.
If you actually want to be with this guy, you'll need to be a lot more open so he gets clearer signals. Right now, it seems as if he's the one who is putting in all the effort. Start flirting, laughing around him, ensuring him that you two would look great together, and I promise, you'll see results.

Does sex feel the same for the guy and girl?
or does it have different feelings?

Sex feels different for everyone but it is proved than women have better orgasms than men. So once a guy can get her to achieve the orgasm, she's having a better time than he is. Sadly, women don't orgasm a lot of the time unless they are masturbating. So if a woman doesn't orgasm during sex, the guy is probably having a better time.

Ok so me and my gf were having sex and i thought that i could hold off from cumming but it was so good that we couldnt stop and i gizzed in her, and i wasnt wearing a condom. Could she be pregnant?

Yes. Buy her a test.
Pulling out isn't effective at all.
You weren't ready for sex if you weren't able to stop.
You're ready when you know your limits and are prepared to by with them.

Okay, so I went to this site [a long time ago] and I was like hmmm this poem is good and I highlighted and was about to click copy but a little pop up came up that said that I couldn't copy it. Does anyone know what program that is and where I cna get it for free?

You can use the code theymos gave you but there really isn't a point.
A lot of people just click control + c and are able to copy it.

I used to be a moderator [level one] and someone hacked into my account, and managed to do something to get me banned from the site for about a week and I lost my moderator status. Anyway to fix this, other than change my password [which I already did] and wait until the amount of time is up and apply again?

There's no other way, I don't think.

What is the difference between Democratic and Republican? Also what is the difference between Liberal and whatever else? Thank you.

Oh my god, Democrats are not rats and they don't kill babies. And not all Republicans are pigs.
You can listen to everyone's discussion on this page and get a biased opinion or you can research them both.
IMO, I'm Canadian but I'd be a Democrat. Usually I find that Republicans are too quick to defend themselves because they're trying to prove to the world that they're not all like George Bush.
But don't listen to anyone on here. Just go on wikipedia and read about them.

We are going to have an Oregon-Oxford debate for one class and that's our topic. I'm for the birth control side. Meaning, having [premarital] sex is okay for as long as you use birth control methods(be it artificial or natural). I'm so sure that the opposition(Abstinence) will read us some biblical stuff and will probably tell us that no contraceptive is 100% effective.

Pleeeeease give me good and strong answers to these stuff because I (and my group) don't wanna look like a fool in front of everyone.

Well, if used perfectly, birch control pills are 0.1% effective against preventing pregnancy, If used typically, 2.15 to 8%.>
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birth_control_pills
> Condoms if used perfectly are 2% effective and typically 15% effective >
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condom
> If you know how to do math, you can figure out what percentage both are together if used perfectly and that number would be something sad like 0.02%.
You could also shut down their biblical argument and bring out a list of statistics that dictate how many people are actually Christian and believe in the biblical stuff.

(14, female)
My past boyfriend and I broke up about three
weeks ago after he cheated on me with the girl
I already disliked. After the breakup, I became
good friends with my old boyfriend, Michael.
My best friend, Annie, had a huge drinking
problem last year, and got to the point where
she had 30 minutes to live after alcohol
poisining. After about 9 months of trying
to change her around, she broke our trust and
drank again.

So to get me through the problems, Michael and
I became best friends again. At one point I
totally fell for him when I realized how great
he was. But I'm having such a hard time trusting
people after my latest problems, I'm not sure
what to do. I love him to death, as my best
friend. He's planning on asking me out soon,
because I told him I liked him to get my
mind off of my ex who cheated on me.

Now, I want to keep him as my best friend,
I'm not ready to trust another person with
my heart like that just yet. I'm not sure how
to tell him, I don't want to hurt him or scare
him away. I really can't lose him, I need
him right now. What should I do?

You should tell him upfront.
Tell him that you really like him and you can possibly see yourselves together in the near future but you're not ready to go out with someone yet because you're still sore from your recent heartbreak.
Explain to him how hard it was to tell him that. Tell him that you don't want to be a tease and you don't want to hurt him but he's been a really good friend and you want to keep him close to you.

Is 5'0" average height for a 16 year (almost 17) old girl? I was 4'10" when I was 11 years old. I'm now taller than my mom by about an inch.

I'm just so tired of getting practically tackled in the hallways at school because literally, no one sees me.

You're a little shorter than average.
The average height for a woman in North America is 5'5" but you still have a year or two to grow.

so with alcohol what do the percent alcohol and the numbers proof mean? like 40 proof? also what is normal for people to drink, what is a lot and what is a little? thanks

The alcohol content is how much alcohol is in the drink and the proof is double that.
For example, a beer has around 5% alcohol, so that's 10 proof. Usually people don't talk about proof unless it's hard liquor.
What is normal to drink? I guess a cooler or two in a social gathering. I live in BC and I'm allowed to legally drink at home so to avoid embarrasing myself, I won't have more than two drinks (i.e. beers or coolers) and I won't have anything stiff. Some people get hammered off a cooler though and some need to down half a two-six of rum.
I would stay away from liquor until you're of legal age though. If you don't know what your limit is, it could really screw you up if you drink too much.

For a gay teen that's 17 years old and lives in Dallas, Texas??? I am on espinthebottle and myspace.com though I use myspace more for networking than dating but yeah... any ideas??

www.okcupid.com is supposed to be a good one.
I've heard really good stuff about Lavalife too.
You could also go on craigslist and make an ad on the personal section to meet people around Dallas:
http://dallas.craigslist.org/
edit: I would avoid the men for men because most are for "casual encounters", I'd look in misc romance instead:

okay so my friends are all getting into the freak dancing thing but im not so into that. how do i dance w/ my friends and still look hot w/o getting to into that kind of stuff? no grinding or any of that. im a good dancer if that helps! 13/F

You should watch movies like Honey, Step Up, Save the Last Dance and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.
Practice the steps that they portray in the movies. They're sexy without looking too sleazy because the films are geared towards a PG audience.

Are brown eyes even pretty anymore?
It just seems like all these beautiful people have blue or green eyes.

And all the people with light colored eyes are noticed more.

My eyes are very dark brown.

I want to make them look pretty.. :\

Well, it depends. I had a guy once tell me that blue eyes are pretty but they're open for the world, you don't get much clearer than them, what you see is what you get. He said green eyes were abnormal and they were pretty too but he foudn that it took a lot to get green eyes sparkling. Then he confessed that he loved dark eyes because they're so mysterious and a brown-eyed girl never fails to intrigue him.
I kind of understood what he was saying. In terms of guys, I love brown eyes and blue eyes are nice to look at but they don't feel as great as everyone has made them out to be.
I would recommend shading your eyes with plum eyeshadow and using lots of mascara to open them up. That's really all you need.
