DRad8t88 answered Wednesday January 24 2007, 1:43 pm: Democrats usually tend to be more liberal in that they support things like abortion (killing unborn babies), gay marriage, giving stupid whores (especially minorites) who screw around and have a thousand kids free money as if they deserve it (welfare), higher interest rates, higher takes; they are against war and they support all kinds of public works (social services and what not)
Republicans tend to be more conservative in that they are against all the above and believe that people deserve what they earn, therefore they support lower taxes. They are for a weaker central government and privatization of social security. They are for defensive spending. Republicans tend to be more traditional and dare I say, more morally and ethically stable?
Of course my answer reflects bias, but when it comes down to it, I pretty much hit the nail on the head. Agree or disagree, think for yourself. Don't be an idiot conformist who believes everything you hear, research things for yourself (not by watching CNN-the Communist News Network, or BBC-the Bullshit Broadcasting Center) actually research for yourself, you might be surprised to find that 99% of the population, Democrat or Republican are WRONG. Xenolan answered Tuesday January 23 2007, 10:58 am: Under the Democratic system, people exploit people.
Under the Republicans, the opposite is true.
Actually, if one wanted to boil it down to a single ideological difference, the most basic thing I've seen is this:
Democrats believe that the purpose of government is twofold: to safeguard our liberties, and to improve people's lives by offering services and assistance to those who need it. Their vision of an ideal society is one where everyone is guaranteed a certain minimum standard of living, financed by the society as a whole, and people are given equal opportunity to rise above that level if they so choose.
Republicans believe that the purpose of government is to safeguard our liberties - and that's all. Everything else must be earned, and if one cannot earn the basic necessities of life, it is not the job of the government to provide it; it is up to private organizations like churches and such. Their vision of an ideal society is one where everyone enjoys the fruits of their labor, where those not born into privilege must rely on their own work to gain that status, and where people are encouraged - but not required - to share their wealth with those less fortunate.
Bear in mind that I'm not a political scientist or philosopher; this is just my impression. More importantly, for many politicians their party affiliation seems to be more of a useful label than a personal belief. When casting a vote, it is best to take the time to learn the actual positions of each candidate, and vote accordingly. In other words, vote for the person, not the label. russianspy1234 answered Tuesday January 23 2007, 10:25 am: basically, both democrats and republicans and liberals and conservatives, believe in the same rights. they just disagree on who deserves them. democrats believe all people deserve to have a place to live. republicans believe only rich people do. liberals believe all people deserve the right to marry, and the pursuit of happiness. republicans believe only straight christian people do. and just so i am not being COMPLETELY biased. republicans believe all people deserve the right to live, democrats believe only those that have been born do.
unfortunately, theymos is not correct. there was a time when he would be, and i really do miss that time. unfortunately, in our current political system, republican does equal conservative about 95% of the time. same thing goes for democrat/liberal. its just the way the party leaders are acting right now. they are saying "if you dont agree with every single one of our policies, we wont support you" and since the party leaders are republican/conservative and democrat/liberal, thats how most politicians end up.
ahnold the governator is a perfect example. he started out as a liberal republican in his campaign, but the party crushed his individuality and now he is as conservative as the next republican. [ russianspy1234's advice column | Ask russianspy1234 A Question ]
