Hey, I'm Mara. I love dancing. It's practically my favourite thing to do. I love House, R&B, pretty much everything with a good beat, and Benny Benassi is my hero; that's why my column is a shrine to him. I graduated this year and am now in my first year of college where I'm trying to pick a major. Chances are you'll see some of my Psychology questions floating around somewhere here. I'm also extremely interested in Political Science too because I, like half the people living in Canada, somehow want to change the world. I particularly want to find a cure for poverty, corruption, cancer, AIDS and George Bush because honestly, I think those are the biggest problems we have right now. I have decided that maybe I should take the time to live a little before I start though because I have a good fifty years ahead of me to fix all the issues there are. Currently my life consists of: studying, working, socializing, eating and ocassionaly sleeping. I spent practically all of my high school life being a delinquent and partying to huge extents until I discovered my brain sometime in the middle of my senior year. I still like to have a good time every once in a while but you always need to find that balance (I haven't exactly found it yet but I'm getting close). Unfortunatley, a habit that has stuck with me from school is my obsessive gossiping. I just can't stop and you know, an article in Cosmo says that gossipers are healthier people because they bond over it? Who would have thought? Anyway, I do have my limitations and I don't condone nasty, brutal gossiping and I don't gossip about anything my friends have told me in confidence or something about someone else that they have slipped to me, however, if I find you in a washroom at a random party making out with my bestfriends's boyfriend, a few people are probably going to hear about it. Actually, more than a few people will hear about it because one of my absolute pet peeves is parties where the all the bathrooms are occupied due to sexual activity or... puking activity. Sooooo what else is there to know about me? My favourite thing in the world is shopping and my worst fear is existantialism. I am OCDey in a clinical way so you can ask me questions about that. You can ask me practically anything you want except for dumb questions but I'm not going to answer them in my little column here because it's a huge waste of space when I could be writing about myself (Click 'LookIt' on my menubar for answers to dumb questions so you don't have to embarass yourself asking them and getting bitched out from me). What I can do, is offer you three pieces of truly inspirational advice. Firstly, never live your life by what others want of you, cherish yourself and everyone around you, and never beat yourself down about anything you couldn't have avoided. Secondly, donate at least ten percent of the income you earn in your life to someone who needs it. Lastly, never get into a bulldozer when you're under the influence and start driving it towards a poor freshmen (I am never going to another kegger ever again... ever). Ok, I'll shut up now. You can start asking me stuff, if you haven't hit the back button already.

I have no idea how to wear my hair for prom! I was thinking about wearing it half up and curly or in a loose updo. My hair is a few inches passed me shoulders, dark, dark brown with white blonde under my bangs and underneath my hair. My dress is black, strapless, and on the skirt of it is covered in black and white feathers. So how should I wear my hair???

I have to disagree with lauraxomichelle, I think strapless gowns look gorgeous with updos.
Don't downplay your look and cover yourself for your own -prom-.
Pile it high, wear a dazzling necklace or a choker and highlight the bone structure in your neck and face.

I downloaded the free trial and I find it confusing to use. I love Painshop pro X but Photoshop is nothing like it.
On Paintshop, you can make your pictures clear, tan, whiten teeth but is there a way to do it on Photoshop CS2.
If anyone knows, please explain. Thank you.
You can whiten teeth by using the desaturating sponge on the tool bar, or the dodge tool.
You can give yourself a tan by going into the mask function, colouring yourself in red, going back to the regular selected screen and changing the hue of your picture (Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation) or by colouring yourself in with a tinted orange.
You can also use different filters to make your pictures look cooler.
You'll have to experiment with Photoshop a lot to get the hang of it. It's worth it to buy a dummy's guide to it or to google up some tutorials.

Hello. I was wondering if anyone has gotten a tattoo on their hip before, and if so what kind of design. I'm not getting a tattoo anytime soon, but I'd like to get one in the future whenever I save up money. If someone can give me any really good sites that have nice hip tattoos, please let me know. Joetattoo.com is a really nice site, it has tons of designs for tattoos and provides pretty good inspiration.
My cousin has a really pretty gun on her left side and my friend got one on her hip and it's a celtic symbol for water but she's afraid now because when women get pregnant, the tattoos stretch out. She wishes she got it on her lower back instead. That's where I'll probably get mine :)

My sister is a sophomore at college. Well, she got a huge box of flowers on Friday from a guy that she doesn't like much. I think that she should let him down really gently because he spent a lot of money on the flowers.
Anyways, we can't figure out a way to tell him..any suggestions?

I agree with oxobhrbabioxo, tell her to take him out to coffee and talk to him about it.
I would keep him around as a friend anyway. You don't even have to hang out with him if you don't want to, just talk to him sometimes.

okay this boy trevor , who i thought was my friend used to tell me how pretty i was and stuff and how i was fun to talk to and idk but we were just friends. like nothing more that that .. and well we were talking sunday night about this kid matthew and i was like yeah matthews hot but he wouldnt remember me anyways cause i met him for like five seconds and hes like yeah matthew said that you didnt look bad in your pics but your ugly in person? ... but i dont think matthew even remembers me or knows my name but whatever .. i told him to ask him where he saw me on monday and he said he would .. but he hasnt talked to me since and i kept asking him if he was mad at me but he wouldnt say anything or he'd delete my comment ... so today i texted him on my friends phone and was like are you mad at melissa and hes like no i just dont have my phone whenever she texts me and stuff ... well a little bit ago his friend from my school IMs me and goes do you like trevor and i was like as a friend why and hes like cause he told me to tell you that the next time i see you at school i have to say he thinks your ugly and he never wants you to text him again ... and i just don't know what to do anymore .. i feel like im the ugliest person alive and no one likes me ... i just idk what to do , someone helpp me please [:

Trevor just has jealousy issues because he likes you and he's trying to keep you away from Matthew. He's just showing it in a really immature way.
Maybe you should go talk to him and ask him what's up. Tell him that you don't like Matthew so he'll understand and tell him that you still want to be friends.

Hi, I'm a 14 year old girl in Junior High. Today, I was called down to the office and accused of doing drugs. (Which I DON'T.) The guidance counselor and vice principal then practically strip searched me, made me empty my bag, take off my shoes, and then they called down a nurse to give me an eye test, take my blood pressure and listen to my heart to determine if I was high. Their reason behind all of this? Apparently earlier, a girl whos name they "could not tell me" told the office that "I was seen in the bathroom with a tube of white powder." I had been in the bathroom, but I had absolutely NO tube shaped items or any item, not even any makeup with me, that looked like powder.
My mom and I are thinking of suing the school district. Do you think that this is a violation of my rights? I do not think they should of searched me just because some random girl TOLD them that. Obviously she was lying. Do you think this is enough to bring forth a lawsuit against the school?
Sorry honey, I don't think there's much you can do in terms of the law.
There was an article in Seventeen or Cosmogirl on it a few years ago where a bunch of girls were taken into the change rooms and were ordered to strip down to the nude and the school wasn't breaking any rules.
But I would hell as well try. There's no point in not doing it, try filing for emotional harassment or something. If nothing else, the school will at least learn a lesson and maybe the media will come around to pick it up.

Alright so my friend mandy puts eyedrops in her water to like make her go poop? or something beause her mom wont by her have laxitves because shes trying to be a bluemic i guess she says she dosent take them all the time like once a month but can they really hurt her? or what is it doing to her body? and could it mess up her future like health problems? if so what. im pretty sure she only takes them once a month or so.

Yeah, my friend once tried to put visine in his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend's food as a "joke" and there was a CSI episode on it too.

Has anyone ever been to Costa Rica? If so, how was it? I am going there with EF Tours next summer and I was wondering what you thought of it.
It's really pretty and there is comparatively less political unrest than the rest of the region (it has no army) but it's not as developed as North America and you have to remember that.
Never go out at night alone with less than three people especially in downtown cities where prostitution is rampant. Make sure you have a good way to protect your belongings and keep all your valuables in a safe.
If you’re a woman, always walk in an assertive manner because the men are like all men in third world countries, they’ll holler and whistle at you and randomly grope you. You could be in a crowd, at the beach, even in a restaurant and some guy will decide to grab you no matter how old you are what you look like. The chance of this happening practically quadruples if you’re standing timidly. Usually, when people try to grope me, I hit them with my purse and then all the men walking around are pretty quick to defend me :)
But other than that, it’s a beautiful country and as long as you take the proper precautions as a traveler, you should have a great time.

Honey, that's all you need... and a willingness to drag all your friends out there and dance.
Make sure the DJ brings a light set though (strobes and fog machines) because those are key, if not, you should really think about renting them yourself.

is it possible for your feet to shrink lol? because im in 10th grade 16/f and my feet have not grown since i was in 5th in fact they have apparently shrunk seeing as i used to wear an 8.5 and now i wear an 8...? but ive grown like 3-4 inches taller since then so the growth spirt is already over and done. haha idk is that just weird?
No, your feet don't shrink.
And that's not weird at all. My sister used to be an 11 and now she's a 10. It's just the different trend in markets and sizes that retail stores sell. They vary by store and by season. Every shoe is different.

I am 5 ft tall, weigh: 115lbs, 29 yrs old. My body is SO unproportioned!! I am very thin around my arms, neck, chest and stomach area, but have LOTS of FAT on my legs!!!! It drives me NUTS! If you were to look at just the bottom half of me, I swear you would think I am overweight!!! Can someone please tell me if there is anything I can do to lose fat ONLY on my LEGS????
Technically, you can't lose weight in specific areas but I lose tons of weight doing cardio like the cross trainer (my fave) or the treadmill, it seems to melt off the pounds.

Seventeen magazine has the -best- ideas for hairstyles and they're usually pretty easy to pull off.
I ahve really long hair myself and usually what I do is gather it at the nape of my neck, twist it up and clip it to the back of my head. It's an easy solution and you can use different types of twists and places to start (i.e. crown instead of nape) to make your own look.

There is this guy who recently broke up with his long-term girlfriend whom he's known for at least 5 years now. The thing is that they have been on and off throughout these years and I don't like try to get myself into that type of information/drama. The problem is, recently it seems like they haven't been talking to each other for a longer time than usual. Personally it doesn't really matter to me, until a few weeks ago the guy started joking around with me, saying that i'm going to ask him out to a school dance. I went along with it because it was hilarious but I never actually thought that was going to happen because he might still get back together with his ex so it was just all really funny humor. This continues for the longest time, he would link arms with me when we walked to class and my friends would just joke about it. Up until this week I asked someone what was up with his and his ex. They said to not worry about it and that I won't get his ex mad if she saw him being all touchy with me. So after that I seriously considered asking him to go as a friend cuz he kept reminding me everytime I saw him.
Anyways, what was weirder was that I had a dream where he was my bf which made this scene completely change. I woke up feeling all weird inside...and I wanted to see if my mind would change back to normal. I saw him that day and he acted the same which made me even more confused. My feelings grew stronger, but I didn't know if I liked him or not...and I don't know if I even SHOULD because he might still have a chance at his relationship with his ex. Today I found myself wanting to talk to him and getting jealous when he talked to other people...especially his ex. He kinda stopped talking to me because before everytime we would " joke" about going as dates I wouldn't really respond to his flirting. I never had a bf before and I never really actually came close to that stuff at all. But now I feel worse than ever because I don't knwo how to explain how I feel. Does a dream reallly change everythign? or is this my own concious acting on me because I've never had anyone treat me like that and its just some type of physical attraction that doesn't really mean anything? I really don't know what I should do...

I believe that dreams give you the answer to questions that you can't work out in your conscious mind.
Usually if you're stabbing a friend in a dream, it's not out of the blue and you probably have underlying issues to discuss with your friend.
Because you're having such a hard time comprehending that you have a crush on him, your subconscious mind has already figured it out? Take it as a hint, you show all the signs of having a crush on him. Trust your instincts.

I will give you my description first I am a small girl, I have a heart shape face sort of like the shape of Halles Berry's I have a small head, I have a caramel complexion my eyes are sort of small but nay way I want to get a afro. And, I don't know how it will look and how people will react to it I would like to know what you t hink about afros as women how do you think they look, and males I would like to know if you find them atrractive or at least decent looking. An afro on a black woman with really good bone structure (like Halles) looks amazing.
It'll really make your stand out when you're out at night or just out anywhere.
