Would you like to converse? Here's my Forum
Quite frankly, I'm sarcastic way more than I should be. Read a few of my answers, and you'll see that I am not totally mean to anyone.
Type correctly or go home. Yes, that is an ultimatum.

I'm planning a trip to southern california for a vacation and i was wondering what are some of the cleanest beaches with also a lot of nightlife around? we're all over 18
San Diego is about 2 hours south of Los Angeles.
The best nightlife is probably in LA, but most bars and stuff won't let in people under 21. It's easier for them that way.
However, the beaches in LA are yucky. I think a lot of people go to Malibu to go to the beach, or to Santa Barbara, which is about 2 hours form LA.
To get the best of both worlds, you're going to have to spend time in the car...and in traffic.
I recommend using Google to see exactly which beach you'd like to go to.
Also, tapings for shows (like the Jay Leno show, the Ellen Degeneres show, etc.) are fun. :]
Welcome to the Golden State.
(I live in LA...pretty much.)

If I want to get a job as a waitress at a restaurant, who do I ask about if they are hiring?
Also, do people usually take the job spots on weekends or weekdays? Days or nights?
I'm still a student in high school so I have limitations like I can't work during the day and may have clubs after school, so maybe nighttime would be best during weekdays or not at all. On the weekends, Sunday mornings and Saturday nights may work. Does that sound reasonable?
This would be my first job. I have no prior experience. Hopefully I won't screw up the interview? What questions would they ask?
What restaurant would you recommend getting a job at?
How do waitresses get paid? There's a monthly salary and in addition, your tips get pooled with other waitresses and waiter's tips and divided?
Does anyone have any other tips on how to be a good waitress?
It REALLY depends on the restaurant. Your hours sound REALLY limiting.
They'd ask
Waitresses definitely do NOT earn a salary. They are paid by the hour or shift, plus tips. Some restaurants pool tips, others let waitresses keep what they get.
Don't ditch your customers, and ask before you refill drinks.
im thinking of doing my school's talent show in spring. maybe solo, or with my friend. can you give me good ideas of songs i can sing solo, and songs i can sing with my friend? im in 8th grade and a girl (if its not obvious). and i sing... well its hard to describe, like i can be alto and then kinda soprano sometimes-ish. and please dont say songs like "Fallin" by alicia keys.. like not TOO mainstream but not TOO weird either.
thanks! :)
I suggest songs from the musical Sweet Charity.
For singing tips, feel free to check the website I have listed on my column.
hey, how do you get the part of being an extra in a movie? do you have to be in the right place at the right time?
Occasionally, it is just being in a certain place at a certain time. For example, in movies where they shoot in malls, they just let people shop normally and alert them as to what exactly they will be appearing in.
However, most movies are shot on studio lots in either Burbank, CA or Canada. In these cases, there are companies in charge of casting extras and they elicit the help of friends, relatives, etc. to get the word out.
For example, my choreographer passed around a list at school for people to sign up to be cast as extras in like 5 movies. I was busy those days, so I was unable to perform, but that's how it happens.
If you live in a remote location, you could always call and see where movies are shooting on location. They really do travel everywhere and anywhere they need to to obtain a great shot.
Good luck on the big screen!

the upper half of my teeth are straight, and basically perfect, but i have an overbite and my four bottom teeth are a little crooked. my tooth chipped when i was 8, and i got a crown for it. somehow the crown isn't there.. because i can still feel the spot where it chipped and its sensitive at times. will invisalign help correct my bottom teeth and my overbite?
The person below doesn't really know what they're talking about.
Yes, it should correct the crooked teeth and overbite.
You do NOT go to the orthodontist every 2 weeks. Instead, they make all of the molds at once and every two weeks, you just switch.
Good luck.
Thanks very much for helping me! Unfortunately, I need some more help.
About this: "I use Tri-X. It's what we have to use, but in very bright situations, I use like a 100 speed film."
I heard higher ISO film like 400 over 125 is better for low light situations or indoors and 125 is better for outdoors and bright light. I first used a roll of 125 film and my photographs developed beautifully in bright sun. I used 2 rolls of 400 ISO film and my photographs
using Tri-X came out badly in overcast. Maybe I did something wrong the second time like put in the film weirdly or developed weirdly. I don't know if I can have that time to develop because our one darkroom is pretty overcrowded and I don't know how to keep track of what I did special for each take. Like..
"To write words in the air with a lighter/flashlight, set you aperture to all the way open. I haven't done this in awhile, so double check this part, but I think you click the shutter and then once you're done click it again.
Experiment with it."
I dunno if I can experiment because how do I keep track of what I did for which shot because there will be so many and we have a deadline for these. ahh! So to write words on it I click on the shutter full-way or half-way and then click again? Because if I click it once won't I have taken the picture and the second click taken another pic?
Also, my photography teacher wants us not to use automatic but manual instead. I guess my teacher will never find out lol but I thought automatic isn't that good and it's better to set the settings yourself. It's been too long and I'm too embarassed to ask the teach about these basics that I'm supposed to know about already and no one else in my class can really help me either.
It's just.. There are so many numbers for shutter speed and aperture that I don't know what to choose! :C
Thanks again!
I shoot automatic, and then sometimes I flick the switch on my lens to set it to manual so I can focus it myself.
If your photographs came out badly as in they didn't come out or something of that nature, it is your fault. Otherwise, ask your teacher.
If you can't experiment, then don't do the assignment, or ask someone who has done it recently.
Hence the reason I shoot automatic. :]
Hi i bought a verizon wireless phone and i thought you could just buy cards like any other prepaid one ( it was supposed to be prepaid ) but it turns out that you need to buy a card and its a dollar a day + ten cents everytime you make a call.Thats kind of crazy so i was wondering, is it possible to get it switched over to another company that has prepaid even though its a verzion phone? thanks
No. Verizon phones are unique in that they do not use SIM cards to transfer information.
Does anyone know when its comming back on because they said the season wasn't over. if you do let me know.. thanks!
Well, I don't know if you know, but the writers are all striking right now, so it is possible that it won't be on until their contracts are negotiated.
Otherwise, I expect it to be on the first Monday in January, the seventh.
I am a beginner photographer doing b & w shots. I am currently enrolled in a photography class, but as you can see, I am very confused. Any answers to any one of the many questions would be fine too. Thanks in advance for your help!
I have used both but which film is better?
Kodak Professional:
125 PX film (Plus-X)
400 TX film (Tri-X)
What settings do I use for the following:
. which [film]
. [aperture]
. [shutter speed]
. [night] vs. [cloudy/dim/low-light day] vs. [sunny day] vs. [indoors w/ artificial light]
To take photographs of:
- To capture fast-motion objects so object at hand is clear and crisp but background blurred while I'm standing still. How about slow-ish moving objects?
- Panning
- To write words in the air with a lighter
- Taking photographs of carnival lights
- Still-life/non-moving objects
- Depth of field (shallow, deep)
Basically, I don't understand how the settings work. If I open up the aperture and have a fast shutter speed both isn't that the best way to capture motion and allowing lots of light in at the same time? So should I always have those settings for taking any photograph?
How do I use filters? The higher the number, the more contrast I will get? I haven't really seen them but they look like square papers with different colors (shades of red). Also, what is bracketing, spot-metering, the poor man's zone, and exposure (long, short.. strobe or flash in dark)? How do I control those? For multiple exposures you can have a person running and on the photograph you can see step-by-step the motion of the runner, right?
It depends what you're shooting and what kind of lighting you're in.
I use Tri-X. It's what we have to use, but in very bright situations, I use like a 100 speed film.
I use a Rebel, and you shouldn't be worrying about some of this stuff. Just set it on automatic and the aperture (f-stop) should adjust for you, for the most part.
Shutter speed should also be automatic.
If you're shooting at night, your shutter speed (and film speed) need to change. Shutter speed should be slower to allow more light in, and film speed should be faster. Do NOT use the flash unless you are looking to wash out your subjects. For similar reasons, it's best to avoid shooting indoors.
I like this link: http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/how-to-capture-motion-blur-in-photography/
That explains how to shoot your fast motion stuff.
Disregard the digital in the URL. It should be the same enough so that you get the idea.
To write words in the air with a lighter/flashlight, set you aperture to all the way open. I haven't done this in awhile, so double check this part, but I think you click the shutter and then once you're done click it again.
Experiment with it.
On an overcast day, you get lucky. This is when some of my BEST pictures have been taken (they're called Open Shade, FYI). You shouldn't be shooting inside unless you're in a studio, which will have the appropriate lighting. Bright sun requires you to let in less light, otherwise your negative will be overexposed (too dark).
Taking pictures of carnival lights and still life/ immobile objects is just point and shoot.
As for depth of field, I assume that you have an assignment. I did a Google image search for you, and here is what came up: http://images.google.com/images?q=depth+of+field+photo&hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=gsu&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=images&ct=title
A lot of those look really good, though some are obviously better than others.
If you have any more questions like the depth of field one, just Google image search it to see what comes up. In times of desperation or mindblock, I always do that. It gets you thinking about what you might like to shoot.
I already said this, but in case you missed it, NO, you do not want the same settings for each photograph. I assume you realize that the more light that gets in, the darker your picture gets. I don't know if you understand how negatives work, so I will explain that and hopefully it will make more sense. Once you develop your negs, the white (or pale gray) is where your picture (print) will be at its darkest. Why? It allows the light to come through, thus darkening your paper. The dark spots on our negative will block the light (or some of it, depending on the negative and how dark and contrasted it is) and leave your paper white in those areas. That is why the settings matter. Your picture will not come out if overexposed. You cannot counteract this by developing it for less time...it will still look overexposed and underdeveloped.
And, yes, for multiple exposures you can have a person running and on the photograph you can see step-by-step the motion of the runner.
I hope that this helps, and feel free to ask my any other questions you might have, or ask me to clarify something.
if anyone has the LG voyager can you tell me if it has any annoying problems? and is the screen responsive? are there accidental keystrokes on the touch screen?
thx
would you reccomend it?
i'm getting it for christmas. i currently have an olympus camera, but it's only 5 MP, but i liked it a lot. there aren't any reviews at best buy for the FE 280. it's 8 MP, but only about $180, so i'm hoping it's the "it's-a-really-good-deal" $180, and not "this-camera-is-a-piece-of-crap" $180. anyone have any reviews of this camera?
It's-a-really-good-deal-$180.
Olympus and Canon cameras are the two best brands around.
I shoot Olympus for digital, and Canon for film.
Love them.

So , Many of you may remember my past post , About likeing someone and not being to happy with it XDD
Well , I have come to face the fact , I do like him . And there's nothing to do to prevent it , Just let it fade .
ANYWAYS , So I found out this other girl likes him XD . And she seems to think that he likes her aswell , In her oppionon . All of this because there were no spots left in the gym and he sat beside her . Not the point though .
Now , I don't think he likes me . Butt , I think we might have something ;] .
You see , I had to dance with him in dance . Butt , Ughh I was kind of nervous . So , Was he .
Sometimes I catch him staring -.- .

Actually, we DON'T all remember your last question...and I don't feel like looking it up.
It sounds like you're friends. Just friends.

I am a 16 year old girl who has taken a babysitting course a few years ago and is certified in CPR. I don't have a lot of experience. I have only babysitted once before, not counting my younger sister. I babysat for a family that had a two year old and a ten year old.
Now I am babysitting for a family that has three kids: A three year old, and two 18 month olds. I only babysit for an hour or so, and the 18 month olds are napping, so unless they wake up, the only major responsiblility is the three-year-old.
My question is, is $10.00 an hour too much? I didn't ask for that much, the parents just gave it to me. I feel bad accepting it because even though I don't just watch TV when I'm babysitting, I play with the kids, it seems like a lot. But then again, I don't know much about babysitting rates, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I would charge more.
They obviously think you deserve it.
Hey, your email address is incorrect.. it can't be smartypants [at] gmail.com because it's mine!
I must have forgotten the numbers.
Haha, thanks.
okay i want to take this new diet supplement sort of thing nits cally the pink patch. [www.thepinkpatch.com] it seems better than other ones and whatnot oh, btw f/17/110lbs but anyway. i get drugtests like monthly for my job and they give the results to your parents. i was just wondering if anyone knows if this will show up? if your going to lecture me about how its bad for me in the first place ha please dont im 17 i can handle myself.
That's odd that your workplace intervenes in your personal life.
I suggest figuring that out; it seems invasive.
Like ygsgirl said, add the pills to your medical history. That way there's no question.
iso 400 mm film can take pics in low light? my camera doesny have flash. how low light are we talking? also, can i take pics in the night time? :`( i want to take pics of amusement parks or w/e
Absolutely not.
Generally, flash ruins pictures. It's better to have all over lighting rather than one very light spot.
You'd need like 10000000 speed film to do what you want.
There is this guy I like, we flirt all the time, sleeps on my jacket, and he even got jealous when he saw a picture of another guy on my binder, and asked me if he could rip it up. Only one problem, he has a girlfriend. Everyone says they are g/f and b/f but he's says they're friends. So is he just flirting with me or he likes me? Should I go for it or forget him?
Forget him because he'll do that with some other girl while he's dating you.
helloo everyone :) i have a simple problem, but not a simple solution (at least in my eyes!)
i'm sure loads of you have the same problem, so i'd like to get some goood feedback:
i'm on the forensics team in my school (i compete in public speaking events, like reciting speeches from memory) and i really want to do a good job. i have a problem.
i get exTREMELY nervous! i haven't yet competed, but i will next weekend. i have my speech memorized, but sometimes, i mess up certain parts. i try to recite it in front of my family or friends, and i always end up CRACKING up out of nervousness. i have tried reciting in front of the mirror, pretending the audience is there, but when i actually SEE the audience, i can't even remember reciting it in front of the mirror. i practice practice practice, i do breathing exercises / physical warm-ups to some extent, but when i first begin the speech, i can feel my entire body heating up, from my toes to the top of my neck up through my face. my other problem is that if i mess up one sentence in a paragraph (my speech is divided into "paragraphs" of 2-3 sentences), i end up messing up the entire rest of the paragraph :( i know with practice, it'll get better, but is there ANYTHING, ANYTHING AT ALL that you guys wanna say? i know for you singers & actors out there, you are well aware of stage-fright! anything you guys do to help you relax, and think "this is NO big deal!" ?
thanks so much :)
Actually, as both a singer and public speaker, I get more nervous when there are a few people around rather than thousands.
I suggest saying your speech backwards.
Like this:
backwards. speech backwards. your speech backwards. saying your speech backwards. suggest saying your speech backwards. I suggest saying your speech backwards.
Do it by paragraphs or as a whole speech.
I don't see why you're so nervous. You're obviously on the team for a reason, so there is clearly a network of support behind you.
:] Good luck.

i've never shopped at a&f but i want to start. The problem is, the store that was in my area was closed down so i'd have to order online, and i don't know what my size is. I don't like going by the size charts they give because apparently i'm not proportionate. I'm a size 6-8/medium in pants and a medium in tops at AE, so based on that could someone tell me what my size would be?
oh and if its not too much trouble hollister too? because i'm in the same situation as A&F with hollister too, lol.
thanks
danielle♥
I'd try a 4 for pants at A&F and a 7 at Hollister. That's what I am, and my sizes are the same as you.
I'd go M/L on the shirts. I have really broad shoulders and a big rib cage, so I have to order sizes up, so don't base that off of me. I'd go bigger, though, if I were you.
