Question Posted Saturday December 29 2007, 11:07 pm
If I want to get a job as a waitress at a restaurant, who do I ask about if they are hiring?
Also, do people usually take the job spots on weekends or weekdays? Days or nights?
I'm still a student in high school so I have limitations like I can't work during the day and may have clubs after school, so maybe nighttime would be best during weekdays or not at all. On the weekends, Sunday mornings and Saturday nights may work. Does that sound reasonable?
This would be my first job. I have no prior experience. Hopefully I won't screw up the interview? What questions would they ask?
What restaurant would you recommend getting a job at?
How do waitresses get paid? There's a monthly salary and in addition, your tips get pooled with other waitresses and waiter's tips and divided?
Does anyone have any other tips on how to be a good waitress?

Usually the person who ever answers the phone will know, or can ask someone who will know if they are hiring.
It all depends when people take them, its what the manager/boss assigns you, usually if they are nice, sometimes they work with your other schedule. But if you have too many other obligations, getting a job might not be the right time for you. You are less likely to get hired if you have so many other things that hold you back from when you work. Its not that its 'reasonable' its that everyone has to take their turn at work. No one wants to work on a friday night, but eventually you might have to. Especially at restaurants, filling in for people, etc. Everyone has to do their part.
They would ask you about your previous experience, in your case; none. When you are willing to work, for how much (minimum wage), etc. Its all pretty easy stuff, depending on how high of class the restaurant is.
What restaurant would I recommend? I don't know where you live, so I dont know what are available. It has to be someplace where they are hiring.
Waitresses get paid very little, when it comes to an actual paycheck, their real pay is the tips. At the restaurant I work at, the waitresses keep all their tips and they don't pool it with others and they don't have to divide it. Its just how it is. It may be different where you work though.
Tips on being a good waitress.. I know a lady that works with me whos been there for like 20+ years. She has tons of regulars, and people like her because she's easy going, laid back, patient, friendly, kind, calm, and just over all a nice person, she jokes around, and isn't acting all stressed. Just remember to smile and be happy, your tip is also based on how you treat the customers.

They'd ask . Click that and some should pop up.
Waitresses definitely do NOT earn a salary. They are paid by the hour or shift, plus tips. Some restaurants pool tips, others let waitresses keep what they get.
