Does .9 infinitely repeating equal 1? At first glance, one might say, "Of course not!", but hear me out. I asked my genius math teacher the same question, and he though about it, then wrote a long equation apparently proving that they were the same number. I have since then forgotten the equation, therefore, forgotten how he arrived at his conclusion. A fellow classmate said he would argue to the death that they were not, but his opinion changed upon reading the teacher's equation. My way of thinking it is this: If 3 x 1/3=1, and 1/3= .3 infinitely repeating, then .3 infinitely repeating should equal 1. But if do the multiplication, each individual 3 would become a 9, so the answer is also .9 infinitely repeating. So 1/3 x 3= 1= .3 infinitely repeating x 3= .9 infinitely repeating. So 1= .9 infinitely repeating. But to say that two different numbers, excluding fractions, etc, can equal the samething doesn't seem right. So, are they or are they not equal? (link)

welcome to the world of rounding... that is where the error is that you fail to compensate for. 0.333333333 X 3 = 1, not 0.9999999(ad nauseum).

I read your reply... you are forgetting that 0.33333(infinity) is not the same as 0.3333 (4 decimal places). 0.3333 x 3 is indeed 0.9999
but 0.333333(infinity) x 3 = 1
the decimal version of 1/3 is an infinite fraction... the visual of that, being 0.3333(infinity) is an approximation.
The answer, wether you like it or not, is rounding. 0.3333 + 0.6667 = 1 is it not? why do I show 2/3 as 0.6667? Because of ROUNDING.
0.999999(infinity) is not 3/3, instead it is "very close to one", and yes, 0.9999(infinity) rounds up to 1. Does that make them equivalent? No.
When you have 0.3333(infinity), you have to remember that those 3's keep going forever. Infinity is a rather tricky concept. Remember that 0.3333(infinity) is 1/3, thus 0.6666(infinity) is 2/3... but as I said, 0.6666(infinity) rounds up to 0.6667 so clearly, 3/3 is not 0.9999(infinity) but is indeed just the number One.

I am slightly underweight .
I'm about 5'2 and about 36 kg , which is not really seriously underweight , so no problems there . Lots of pple tell me that i'm really thin and stuff , but i can't help noticing that i seem to have rather fat upper arms . What can i do about this ? Why everyone instantly thinks of diet first, I find worrisome. If you don't like the shape of your upper arms, give them a good workout, and tone/build the muscles in that area instead. I'm not saying that you should get all muscle-bound - just shape and tone what you've already got.
This would mean finding a variety of exercises to do that are good for the bicepts and tricepts - and do not use large weights - you want light weights and repeptition to do toning. Working with heavy weights will build muscle bulk, which is the opposite of what you'd want to do.
Talk to a trainer or someone in fintness should you have more specific questions.

I answered a question about breat enlargement surgery this same way:
Your breasts will continue to grow for many years. I know someone who went from a B to a D cup in their mid 20s. She did not gain any weight.
Breasts also get larger when you have kids.
I very much doubt that these pills will do jack for you. Most claims on such things are very sketchy, and more often, flat-out lies. They sell pills like that to susceptable people with low esteem, because they find people like that to be easy prey and willing to shell out their money for shit that doesn't do anything. Don't be made a fool by con-artists like that.

Here's an idea: ask your doctor.
If you've just gotten the stitches, I guarantee that you'll be told "NO".
If you got the stitches a while ago, there is a chance that it might be allowed because the wound has healed well enough.
But no matter what, you should not be asking a question like this of an on-line forum... call a doctor.

Generally, yes, that would be the thing to do. Why you would think you could get away with NOT doing that I don't know, as there is not padding or anything in the crotch, which would make things rather apparent.

If I have NEVER combined names on ANYTHING with my husband, can his credit report ever be reflected on my credit report? And if so, how is this legal? I do not live in a community property state, we have never purchased ANYTHING together and never will. Do not file income tax returns together. He now has creditors calling him from past obligations years before he met me that I knew nothing about - can they ever come after my assets I owned before ever marrying (house in particular, which is titled under my name before marrying two years prior)? Going to church does not make one holy. Proclaiming to follow a religion does not make one holy either.
It takes some actual effort to live a "holy" life.
Likewise, I've harped before about the differences between relgion and spirituality.
I'm wondering if you're perhaps asking about over-simplified definitions of things faith-related, but again, from what you've attempted to ask, I'm not really sure what you're aiming for... any chance you could clarify your question?

setting them on fire won't really prove much of anything, other than maybe which ones burn the closest to completion by looking at the ashes that remain.
Perhaps you should look at what temperature each one will spontaneously combust? That data should be readily available, too... then you can follow that up with some controlled experiements. Looking at which leaves the least amount of reside would also be good... here's what you do:
get some glass or metal containers that you can burn the stuff in...
get samples of the fabrics and get a weight of each piece you intend to burn.
get the weight of each container, too
put a piece of fabric in a container, and set it on fire in a controlled manner - do not use anything other than a match or lighter to start the fire... let it burn as much as it will on its own.
Once the container has cooled, weight the whole thing. Subtract the starting container weight from the new total weight to get the weight of the burnt fabric. Compare the burned weight with the starting fabric weight. Calculate the weight loss.
Make observations while the fabric burns - are there intense flames? Is there lots of smoke? It the smoke more white in color, or is it all black and sooty? Are the ashed fine or chunky? Did the fabric even burn, or did part of it melt instead? Take good notes of all these things... you WILL see significant difference given the fabrics you listed.
Also, I would add cotton to your list. Do not burn silk - probably too expensive. Maybe swap out linen for nylon or a cotton-polyester blend?

At the moment i am in a relationship where i am selling my house but still living with my ex as i can not afford to move and rent. so i have to wait another six weeks before the sale is complete. During this time i am seeing another guy and we want to live together but due to my circumstances i cant at the moment. He lives with friends as he cant afford a place of his own. but can afford to rent a room with someone but he will have to move away from me and all this is putting a stress on our relationship and all we do is argue and he is very paranoid of not being with me and doesnt trust me or anyone near me as he is very possessive. we dont want to split up and we just want everything to happen over night regards to me settling the sale of my house and living together and i'm going mad. I just want some advice on this situation i'm in and how we can over come this without splitting up....or distancing ourselves...please help!!!!! (link)

It sounds like your current relationship is no better than your previous. If the two of you can't even be bothered to wait a few weeks to let legal and financial matters settle, that really doesn't look too good in terms of the stability and maturity of your relationship. I think a little distance might be the better option.

I have a fileserver at home, dishing out the files through samba running on a Linux box. Little customization was needed, and I did so on older hardware with a new, big-ass hard drive. I have had 5 people accessing it simultaneously and never had a problem.
Now, I'm not running any kind of hardware or software raid, but one day (given time and money), I'll mess around with that.
I cannot tell what sort of LAN you are running... is it for a company? A large or small group of people?
There are a billion different ways you could go about implementing a solution to this, but without knowing your requirements, I can't really give you a concrete answer.

Greetings, it's me, the advicenator_admin. Lately I've been receiving more requests to have people monitor the site for unsuitable content. Some people would rather give bad advice. I haven't cared much before, I mean, annoying questions are a problem because everyone reads those, but not everyone reads every advice column so who cares how bad it is? I look at advice columns like your own websites... unless it's really hateful, I see no need to try to ban people. Plus, so far when a columnist joins and decides it's funny to slam everyone and be mean, they've gotten sick of it after ten questions or so. No need to pick a fight when they're dropping out anyway.
What do you all think? Should we ban people with really awful columns? Not display columnists with really low ratings? Ignore everything, and just let the site run free? I want to know what everybody thinks. (link)

early on, there was absolutely no moderation on the site... dumb questions were just out there for all to see... so some of us took to replying to them in a particular fashion... ask something dumb, get something dumb in return.
However, what I've been seeing lately are people who go to good questions, legit issues and the like, and just flame away, acting like total assholes.
Currently, the person who asked whatever question is not only going to see people who actually tried to help them out, but also the replies from the assholes who think it is fun to act like immature little fucks. Some of these comments have stepped waay over the line, to outright attacking people and showing gross disrespect for the indivual.
When I've mentioned a few columnists who have acted this way, it is not because I watch people's columns - it is because I read a question, and then saw one of their hideous replies - THEN I read that person's column and see that every single one of their posts here has been a giant flaming piece of shit.
You've got to draw a line somewhere.

I'm not sure whether this beinglongs in activsm or not but I think that when the airplanes hit the twin towers on 9/11, the terroists actually thought what they were doing what the right thing to do. I know that they shouldn't have done it in such a destructive manner but isn't that what we're doing now? You will not likely find one for hosting MP3s. Legal issues aside, they tend to suck down bandwidth worse than images.
