Is it true that a person can become skinnier but still weigh as much as they did when they where fat? Like that whole "muscle weighs more than fat", is that true? So, could I be skinny but still weigh a lot on the scale? Please explain that concept to me. Thanks!
P.S- I am 14/F if you need to know that;)

Yes, it's completely true. A person who has a higher body fat percentage than someone else but weighs the same as them, then they will look bigger. Think of it this way: Muscle is like gold, it's solid and dense. Fat is fluffy, like cotton balls. If you were to fill a plastic baggy with gold, and another bag with cotton balls, the gold bag would weigh much more, but the bags would still be the same size. Same goes for body composition. That's why athletes who are extremely fit and muscular have distorted BMI results. They have a lot of muscle which weighs a lot, but it's all packed in so they look really toned and lean. Your goal should be to become lean and strong, not skinny. Most people who diet often lose muscle mass, and then they are faced with eating less in order not to gain weight. Hope I explained this well enough, it's kinda confusing...i know.lol
I have to take medicine throughout the day. Recently, I was told I should start taking a Calcium supplement, in addition to my other meds. My questions are: Does taking calcium along with another pill lessen the strength of that other pill? Is there a difference in taking calcium in the morning as opposed to at night? Thanks-
I don't know of anything that a calcium supplement would interfere with. I take one once a day along with acne medicine, and it doesn't make a difference in how it works. Just be aware that taking a calcium supplement will make it harder for your body to absorb iron, a nessecary nutrient that most people don't get enough of anyways. So, if you were to take a calcium supplement, I suggest take it before bed so that it doesn't reduce the amount of iron you get so badly.

well im 14 and want to get physically fit this summer. its not that im over weight. actually im underweight and dont want to do anything that will make me loose weight or cost me money.
are there and at home things u can do to get your legs stronger and your arms stronger. i cant even do a push up.

as for your upper body, if you can't do a push up, then just hold yourself up in push up position and time yourself. Do a few sets and make the time longer each time. For your legs, I'd walk or jog, then when you are done, do some lunges or wall sits or squats. This will REALLY tone your legs. The trick is to do them right after cardio, it works better. Wall sits are my preference because they're easy to do, you can watch TV while you do it! good luck this summer, and maybe if it works out for you, don't quit when summer ends, make it a habit and you'll always look and feel great!
do you get the same workout by using a gazelle for 30 minutes as using a treadmill for 30 minutes? or does one burn more calories then the other?
It depends how hard you're working out. Using a gazelle at a moderate pace will burn about 224 calories in 30 minutes. Running 6 mph(10 minute mile) for 30 minutes burns 298 calories. I found this at http://www.fatburn.com/free_tool_activity_burn.asp

i want to lose extra fat from my lower stomach and upper thighs because the rest of my body is pretty toned except for those areas and it drives me crazyyy. lol so i figures i could on my tredmill about 3-5 days a week and ate a little healthier it would help (along with daily activity). k so 3 questions. 1 do you think that would work..2 about how long should i run on the tredmill..and 3 what type of foods should i eat(specifically)

2. I would recomend at least 20 minutes a day. Depending on how fast you run that should be at least 2 or 2 and a half miles. After you run, do some lunges or squats. If you do it after you run, you'll build more muscle there, which in turn will burn more fat when you are just resting. Stretch too. If you want to get more muscle, your legs are going to be tight, which is a recipe for injuring your self.
3. Eat a high-carb, high fiber breakfast that is low in fat. Fiber keeps your stomach fuller longer, so you won't eat as much throughout the day. Granola, oatmeal, pancakes or waffles (without the syrup), fruit(not just juice, it doesn't have the fiber you need)And get some protein in you at the start of the day too, it kickstarts your metabolism, giving you more energy. Nuts, eggs,*remember, everything you eat in moderation, because all foods have good things and bad things about them*
Eat a small midmorning snack, a small lunch, and a small snack between lunch and dinner. That way, at dinner you don't eat a ton. Don't skip any meals, and drink a lot of water. hope this helped!
Hi. I am a Cheerleader and i was wondering if anyone has any tips or things to do to jump higher. I need to learn how to jump higher so anyone could anwer this as long as you do somthing with jumping such as track, basketball, ect. Please anwer. My jumps are pretty bad because im not jumping very high so if anyone has anything for me to do please tell me.

You are most likely insecure about something, not necessarily your body image. Whenever you're around them, take the opportunity, show off a little. When you talk online or on the phone, they can't truly see your personality. It all takes time and experience.. hope i helped.
i dont eat alot of meat and i dont drink milk. i eat any other dairy products, is there any kind of food i can eat to replace that?
Eat nuts, fish, and eggs to get the needed protein that you don't get from not having meat. Protein is important for your daily diet so if you don't want meat, be sure to get it from somewhere else.
does anyone know the website when you put your weight and height and it tells you if you are at the right weight or over weight? thanks
www.amifat.com has one I think, but a BMI calculator is not very accurate(that's what you were talking about) Also take a body fat percentage test. You have to measure your waist and your hips and stuff, but they have them online where you just punch in the measurements and it tells you your body fat percentage, which is what really matters. If you google it, a ton of them will pop up, but I think www.amifat.com has one too. Not sure though. hope this helped.
well i'm being told that just doing a bunch of ab exercises will not eliminate the extra fat i have on my lower stomach. i'm being told that i have to do some kind of cardio too, like running. i've always wanted to start running in the mornings or in the evening (like 7:00), but i'm too embarrassed to. i'm 14/f and the only people that run in my neighborhood are adults. i think it is really embarrassing to be the only teen running. and when i do go running i feel really unconfortable doing it. are there any other cardio workouts i can do inside? i really want a treadmill but my mom wont get one. i also have DDR, but it really hurts my feet and i get bored doing it after like 10 minutes so that isn't helping.

I, like you, am 14/f and had the same thing happen to me. I wanted to go running around my neighborhood to get in shape but I didn't want people to look at me and be like... why's she running? does she think she's fat? but i finally overcame that and went running. Every morning I go running and now people are used to it. My best friend saw me out running (she lives nextdoor) and now she runs too. So if you start running maybe you'll be an example for other teens. You can always find another exuse to be out there working out too. What I did was I found a short triathalon race (just for fun, locally) and when people would ask why I run all the time, I'd tell them I was training for a triathalon, and then they saw me as a very athletic person and they have a different perspective. Good luck, and I know how you feel. Just don't be embarassed, it's nothing to be embarassed about once you get out there. It feels good.
Im 16/female. im about 5'7",5'8" .. im uncomfortable with my height..(and weight) i want to be smaller/ shorter..all my friends are like 5'1", 5'2".. but ive realized i cant change how i am.. i play softball and do cheerleading.. HERES THE THING; I thought i weighed around 125 lbs.. (last time i weighed myself was a year ago).. and i was 130ish.. but i weighed myself the other day in my friends bathroom.. and i was A WHOPPING 152lbs!!!!!

For your height, 152 is not too heavy. But there is always room for improvement. If you want to lose some weight, then an easy way to start is to speed up your metabolism. To do this, make sure you drink plenty of water. Your liver is responsible for burning the calories that you eat, and your kidneys need a lot of water to function, so if you are dehydrated, the liver will have to help out the kidneys and it won't be able to burn as many calories as fast. Also, eat breakfast, preferably one that is high in carbs and fiber and low in fat. You should have a 300-400 calorie breakfast to kickstart your metabolism. Trust me, you'll burn about 200 more calories each day by eating in the morning, and you'll probably eat less later in the day. Never go for more than 4 hours without eating. Some people say you should eat 4-6 small meals each day, but that doesn't happen if you're a busy person. So try to occasionally munch on a few cashews or a banana. And remember to exercise. If you build up a lot of muscle, you'll be burning more calories, even in your sleep! Good luck
Is color gaurd popular like cheerleader, because my sister said that it was like being a cheerleader, but i dont know if that is true or not?

I don't think it depends on whether you are in color guard or not, I'd say it just depends on the person. I have friends who are in color guard and band, as well as cheerleading and football, and they're all my friends no matter what they do. Stereotypically, girls in cheerleading are considered the popular, pretty girls, especially in movies and shows, but I am completely against that. It's not true at all, and there is no way anyone could make a connection between social status and your activities just like that. So, my answer is this basically:
Color guard people and cheerleaders are treated the same by their friends, but maybe not by the jerks around school who stereotype all the different groups. Hope I helped!
So I am going to this party tonight and the theme is summer, so naturally you are suppose to wear summer clothes. I have no idea of what to where and what accerories to put with it, all i know is that i dont really want a skirt!

I would wear some cute shorts and a tanktop in bright colors(at least the tank top) and flip flops. For accessories, I would wear a short necklace, but not too fancy or anything, just laid back, very casual, like long beads wrapped around your neck. Just, think cute and creative, but be sure not to wear too many layers or anything because It's hot(well at least where I am it is) and I'm guessing it's hot wherever you are too.
My hands sweat constantly, and it's very embarrassing. Are there any ways that I can stop them from sweating so much? Is there a medicine or something?
I know someone who has that problem. It is actually a disorder. Ask a doctor if you have that disorder, and they will be able to answer the questions about medicine.
My mom smokes and it really grosses me out because I had the smell of cigarettes. I'm also worried about her health. What should I do?
First of all, if you haven't already, tell your mom that it bothers you that she smokes. Sometimes that is enough to make her want to quit. If she knows but smokes anyways, then keep encouraging her to stop. Do some research and scare her out of smoking, because it is very harmful. good luck

Watch what you eat... no late night snacks like ice cream or pop corn... try granola or fruit or yogurt. Most of weight loss is linked to your diet. As for toning up, running long distance will be killer. I tell you, it's tough work, but with determination, you'll be lookin' fabulous. Ok, and then after you run do lunges, sit ups, and STRETCH because if you mess something up and can't work out then you will NOT be able to achieve what you are working towards. Good luck

If you're into sports, then pick a sport you like and practice all the time... its a double +. Or you can, like someone else said before, buy a cute skirt or swimsuit and don't wear it until you fit into it.

I'm trying to eat healthy, and I wanted to know some foods you recommend for the following catagories that are healthy. Please be specific, I need all the guidelines I can get (and I am pairing it with exercise). Thank you!

for breakfast do something with whole grains like a whole grain bagel or cereal or something along with fruit or veggies(maybe granola)
at lunch do like a turkey sandwich on wheat bread and lettuce and stuff
you can snack on ricecakes or fruits and veggies, those are good..(a good before bed snack is low fat yogurt) you might also think about a handful of nuts
and at dinner, you could have like whole grain pasta, veggies, and salad... but try to avoid overeating especially at dinner, and after dinner it is a good idea to take a walk (its really refreshing and its good for you)
Also drink plenty of water throughout the day, its more important than you think!
