About Daimeera

Hello there!

I'm a 21 year old female from Nova Scotia, Canada. I'm not as active on this site as I once was, but I will almost certainly reply to private questions sent to me.

Let's see, about me. I've been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Clinical Depression, as well as some other related mental and physical illnesses. Despite this, I'm happier now than I can ever remember being.

I've been a vegan since August 2007. In other words, I do my best not to consume anything of animal origin, ranging from the obvious (meat), to the somewhat obvious (eggs and dairy), to the not-so-obvious (honey, wool, silk, and more). I love this life. I have so much more appreciation for everything and everyone around me, and I feel so at peace with myself and the world. I wake up everyday and know that I'm making a difference. It's been a huge turning point in my life.

I recently graduated from high school after an extra three years due to my illness. It was a long road, but it felt amazing to walk across that stage. An added bonus was having the 15th highest average (over my high school career) out of 258 students!

I intend to pursue a career in psychology, first obtaining my BA, and then attending graduate school in order to study for my PhD. It's a little daunting at times, but I know it will be worth it. I want to help people, plain and simple. I want to make a difference. I want to change the world. And I believe I can, if only in a small way.

I think that's me in a nutshell. I also enjoy writing, knitting, multiple other artistic endeavors (including drawing, photography, music, and more), web design, and many other things. So, feel free to drop me a message if you think there's something I can help with.

Psst, guess what? I, like everyone else, have my very own message board! You can visit it here.

I cry almost every day for no reason. I'm angry and irritable over the smallest things some days, and other days it's like nothing matters. For the past couple of weeks every time I let my mind wander I end up thinking "wouldn't it be spectacular [I actually use the word spectacular] if I was sure there wasn't an afterlife. Then I could just kill myself" The only thing keeping me from suicide is my conviction that there is an afterlife and I don't want to have to explain myself to a higher entity. I haven't slept more than 20 hours combined in the last 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure I have bipolar disorder, but my parents always think I'm over-reacting. How can I convince them to let me see a psychiatrist?

In an ideal world, it wouldn't take any convincing. I'm sorry they won't take you seriously. :0(

You might be forced to go to someone outside the family. Is there a guidance counsellor at your school that you could talk with? He or she might be able to help alert your parents to how serious your situation is. If there isn't a guidance counsellor, how about a teacher, religious figure (minister, priest, etc.), friend's parent . . . ?

It's important that you keep talking until people listen. I'm glad that you don't want this to take you over. I'm sorry that you're being forced to fight for your health. But do fight for it--you deserve it, and you CAN do it.

Best of luck.

ok so im 100 lbs and in the 8th grade, and i want to be smaller. i used to be the thinnest of all... then i gained. i want to be the SMALLEST of everyone i know, and i know i can do it b/c i have before. i really want to become anorexic, PLEASE, ive heard all about how it screws you up and stuff, but i want ways to BECOME anorexic, not people telling me the dangers i already know all that. if youve been anorexic before, please tell me how you did it, b/c i want to be! i havent eaten all day and when i do, i just throw it up. i dont seem to be seeing much of a difference, so please tell me how to be anorexic.

I have a few questions for YOU.

Why do you want to be anorexic? Why do you want to be the thinnest of everyone you know? What feeling will that give you--will you feel special? Do you want attention?

There are healthy ways to get all these things. Starving yourself is not healthy, and it will not solve any of your problems or make you happy. It just won't.

You need to ask yourself why you want this. The question isn't how to develop an eating disorder, because that's self-explanatory. The question is why you want to.

I'm not going to tell you that you disgust me, because you don't. I'm concerned about you. Anyone who has these feelings isn't okay. They deserve better. You deserve better.

Find a way to improve your life, not make it worse. You can be healthy and happy, or you can have an eating disorder, but not both. Choose health. Please.

About how much times would i have to run up the stairs( 13 steps ) a day to burn a pound or 2 a day?

Thanks in Advance

Short answer: more than you can imagine.

Long answer:

Go here (http://www.changingshape.com/resources/calculators/caloriesburnedcalculator.asp) to calculate how many calories you burn per minute of running up the stairs (it depends on your weight and therefore I cannot calculate it for you). Assuming it's the only exercise you do and you're currently maintaining your weight, if you'd like to burn a pound per week, you'll have to expend 500 calories every day just climbing stairs. Assuming you weigh 130lbs and go at a moderate pace, that's about 83 minutes, or 1 hour and 23 minutes of stair running per day.

Basically, it's not going to happen. Change your diet and find a more sustainable form of exercise if you want to lose the weight--your body will thank you for it, and you're far less likely to be disappointed.

im anorexic and have been for half a year. its a struggle everyday to come to terms, but im becoming more accepting. i only want REAL anorexics advice on how to stay strong and lose weight fastly. thanks and i can provide stats ect if you need.

much love

Being anorexic isn't something to be proud of. Guess what--you have a disease. You're not special because of it. You're not better than other people because you have more self-control. You need help--not advice about how to make yourself sicker.

You're destroying your body--you do realise that, right? People die from eating disorders. They die. Read those words until they sink in. You're not immortal. You're human. Your body can only hang on for so long.

Things only go downhill. Ask someone who's been anorexic for longer, and she'll tell you that she wishes she never started. You'll get to that point too. Every day you indulge your eating disorder, you make recovery that much more difficult.

Do yourself a favour and get help now. A therapist can help you understand why you're choosing not to eat. A dietitian can help you make better choices. Self-exploration can offer you freedom. You deserve that. You don't need to live like this.

Don't accept it. Refuse to accept what you're doing to your body, because it's not okay. It's not good enough. You deserve better.

can teens get arthirits? if so my growing pains sure are not growing pains

Teens can get arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, and an entire host of other diseases that can cause pain. If your pain is severe, your best bet is to talk to your doctor. If nothing else, it will set your mind at rest.

okay well my mom saw my myspace pictures of me drinking and smoking and shes mad and she said im grounded for a month but thats like all summer and were going to have a talk when i get home and i dont no what i say do lie or what can i say"?

She's well within her rights to ground you. You live in her house, and have to abide by her rules.

Tell the truth, whatever the truth might be. It's generally apparent when someone is being honest and that is the most likely thing to get you leniency. I suspect grounding you has a lot more to do with wanting you to be safe than it does with punishment. If she grounds you, she'll know where you are at all times and will therefore know that you're not doing anything dangerous.

I realise teenagers experiment, and maybe I'll lose all credibility for saying it, but I don't think experimentation is necessary. You're playing with fire. Also, why put those pictures on myspace? It won't be cool anymore when your teachers and future employers see them. And as you've seen, it's not cool when people who aren't your friends (as in, your family) see them. I don't see the necessity to publicise your particular exploits.

Be honest. Be honest with yourself, too. Do you have a problem? Is it just experimentation? I can't answer that and I won't try to. But I think it's important that you often make sure the answers are proper ones. It's easy to get into trouble and get in over your head.

Be safe.

:could i lose 10-15lbs by the end of july becuse thats when im going on vacation
:and any tips for staying healthy while on vacation
thanks

I take exception to the advice telling you to stay under 1200 calories per day. 1200 calories is the MINIMUM intake you should have; anything under that and you're going to damage your body and your metabolism.

You're by no means overweight. You're not even close. Your BMI is more than acceptable. You don't need to lose weight; you need to lose your negative self-view.

You've said you've been anorexic and bulimic--if you haven't seen a therapist, you should. A therapist can help you overcome the issues behind your history of eating disordered behaviour. He or she can also help you see the positive things your body can do, rather than only the negatives.

Losing weight won't make you happy. It won't make you like yourself any more than you already do. Only reflection and self-acceptance can do that.

Hi, im 14 and i need a job to help pay for my horse. does anyone kno where a 14 yr old would be accepted in New York. even if its not a job, i need a way to make money

thankyou

Assuming you board your horse, you might want to speak to the owner of the stable where your horse is staying. He or she might be willing to allow you to work at the barn, whether it's for pay, or for reduced cost. You might have difficulty finding legal work other than babysitting at your age (although I'm not entirely certain of New York law).

Working in the stable would also give you the benefit of further horse experience, and it sounds a whole lot more fun that babysitting kids or slogging fast food!

i dont really pay attention to ratings because i just started but i gave someone a detailed answer and he gave me a 3. its not so much his rating its his comment:
Thank you for your answer. I would give you a 4 but you didn't capitalize. Otherwise it was a good answer.
what does capitalizing have to do with anything?

One of the biggest problems is that 3 is seen as a bad rating, when really it isn't one. Sure, it's not outstanding, but it's a solid rating for a solid answer.

It's harsh, but I think that someone who won't type with proper grammar and capitalisation (aside from the occasional error) should rarely, if ever, receive above a 4 rating. Fours and fives should be reserved for outstanding advice--advice worth showcasing. Poorly worded responses with clear grammatical flaws are more difficult to understand, and quite frankly, don't show much respect to the user posing the question. I feel the same way about those asking questions, actually--I'm much more likely to respond to one with proper grammar, punctuation, etc. because it tells me that the person actually cares enough to make it readable.

I see no problem with a rating partially based on proper English mechanics.

my boyfriend and I were having sex the other night and he went soft. Why did this happen, is it because of me? Or because he was drunk or what?

These things just happen. Being drunk might have contributed, or it might not have, but it wasn't your fault. I suspect, in fact, he feels bad because he's worried you WILL think it's your fault when it's not.

He can't really control what his body decides. Try not to worry about it too much.

I was wondering if it's a good idea to use movies as examples in the essay, as long as it fits the prompt you're writing about? Or should we stay away from movies and just stick with literary, historical, and personal experiences?

If your essay is informal enough that you can use personal experiences, it's probably okay to use movie examples. Be aware, however, that formal essays rarely allow for personal experience.

It depends on the teacher, the prompt, the assignment itself, and to a certain degree, the style of your writing as well.

If you have doubts, I would be inclined to stay away from a film example.

I'm a 19 year old girl. Bear with me: this is long.

I've always been heavy, and I recently topped out at about 225 lbs. That was a month ago, and now I'm down to 208. I struggled with binge eating disorder from about age 10 until recently, so I was used to that. But now things are changing.

I started off by dieting. I started to lose some weight. Then I started to cut calories. I live with my boyfriend, so he got worried. I stopped cooking enough food for the both of us, and gave him most of it so that I didn't have to rationalize my not eating.

Now I've got a new job, and it involves a lot of exercise. I've been losing weight at the rate of 1-2 pounds a day since starting. I've been skipping meals so that I don't have to eat, saying that I'm not feeling well. When I do eat, I try to eat mostly salad, with very little else.

I'm weighing myself every day, almost obsessively. If I gain a half pound back, I make myself do an extra half hour on the treadmill, and cut my normal meal amount in half. I guess that's as close to purging as I get.

I noticed all of this today, because I was getting dizzy and nauseous while I was working, and had to stop.

My question, now that you have the background, is this:

Do I have an eating disorder, or is this just extreme dieting? If so, which one, because I'm really confused as to where to start with fixing things if I do, and getting onto a healthy weight loss path. I tried looking this up online, and the only one that really fit my behaviours was anorexia, which I don't have because I'm overweight.

Any help on the matter would be great.

Look up ED-NOS; it fits your symptoms. Mind you, no one here can diagnose you, but perhaps it will provide a certain measure of comfort knowing that you're not just nuts?

Please try and get yourself help sooner rather than later. A therapist could be tremendously helpful to you. A dietitian would also probably be of use. I would definitely suggest seeing a doctor; he or she can run tests to rule out physical reasons for your weight, and possibly even physical reasons that might lead you toward this unhealthy weight loss.

You're hurting your body. I know you know that, and I know that to a certain degree right now, it doesn't matter. Weight loss is almost a natural high. I've been there. I am there. It's not pretty, and it doesn't get easier.

I think you know it's a problem, because you're posting here. The next step is to figure out why you're doing what you are. How do you feel when you don't eat? How do you feel when you do? What other things can cause these feelings? Why is this the path you've chosen? It goes beyond weight, because if that was all there was to it, you wouldn't be depressed to see the scale go down only a bit; you'd just be happy to see it go down.

Please get help. Talk to your loved ones. Talk to a professional. You deserve better than this.

sorry if its the wrong category

how can you get rid of split ends?
how can you prevent them?

THANKS
=]

The only way to get rid of spit ends once you have them is to get them cut off. Nothing else works, no matter what a product may claim.

To prevent them, take good care of your hair. Condition it. Try not to wash it everyday so it won't get too dry. Don't tease it often, or if possible, at all. Stay away from harsh products. And get regular trims.

14/f

I'm more upset than I usually am right now because a guy friend of mine just told me that this other girl said i was fat and was making fun of me. I used to not think I was fat, even though I am. I'm curvy and i thought that was sexy, but apparently it's not okay. I'm sitting here crying right now and i've been doing that all day. It's not my fault that I don't have a metabolism. I eat 1200(or fewer) calories a day, only healthy food, and I work out every day, but lo and behold I'm still a fatass! And everyone else i know is an anorexic bitch who eats whatever she wants.

If you don't believe that I'm fat- take a look at this pic: (yes i know the clothes are form-fitting- that's so you can see my figure better)

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n210/LovelyBoylan/howfat.jpg

please don't say anything like "Oh you're so fat hunny you just need to exercise and eat right!" BECAUSE I ALREADY DO BOTH OF THOSE THINGS! GOOD LORD!

So i'd really like some advice on how to feel better about what this girl did to me.

thanks.

If you're truly eating under 1200 calories, you should increase. Staying under 1200 calories messes up your metabolism.

You should talk to your doctor. You might have a metabolic or other disorder that is preventing you from losing weight. Thyroid problems, for instance, can cause weight gain, as well as a myriad of other symptoms.

Mind you, you look fine. But if it's really bothering you, the first step is to see a doctor. He or she can assess you for physical problems, as well as recommend a program to help manage your weight if he/she feels it necessary.

I live in Missouri and I was thinking of dying my hair pink but when I went to the salon they said they didn't have any permanent pink hair dye.

Where can I get this dye on my own?

Your best bet is online. If you live near a Hot Topic or other "alternative" store, you might have some luck there, but otherwise, unless you can find another salon, you're probably stuck with the internet as your only option.

i am addcited to food...it is like drug problem bu with food...the second my family leaves the house i binge...i spend hours while they are around thinking of what i can get next...then i feel guilty... but i dont know how to stop my cravings

Is it really food you want? How do you feel before you binge? What's going on in your life? Are you anxious, lonely, bored? Identifying the reason behind your eating is the first step to solving it.

You might very well have an eating disorder, in which case it might be beneficial for you to see a therapist. They can help you identify why you binge, and help you change it.

It's a difficult situation, and unfortunately, society is inclined to discriminate against this particular type of eating disorder. Please realise that you're far from alone, and that there is help out there.

Best of luck to you.

how many beers does it take to get a 17 year old girl drunk? about 5'4 and weighs 120. also how many glasses of wine and how many shots?

It depends entirely on the individual and her prior drinking experience. What is true for one person is not true for another.

Be careful.

How come on YouTube when people play and sing along to acoustic versions of a song with the guitar, the word "cover" is almost always in the title? What does this mean?

A cover basically means a version of someone else's song. So, if you sing "Hurt," for example, you're covering a song by Johnny Cash.

Okay, my parents work 9-5 pretty much every day, me and my to brothers go to school but were getting out on summer vacation. I have a part-time job for the summer and my brothers are going away for the summer...My dog is home all the time by her self and we can't put her on her leash because all she does is bark, my mom has been hounding my for a year pretty much the entire time that we've had her. she always says that she's going to get rid of her but this time she is serious she had people over to look at the dog and everything, she gave me the a choice whether to get rid over her or not. I know it would be the best thing to get rid of her but I honestly don't think I can. I have no idea what i should do please help

Ouch. That's a painful situation. It sounds like you already know what the right thing to do is, it's just the doing it that's hard. I can understand that; we recently had to make the decision to have our cat of about 16 years put to sleep. It was for the best, but it was still incredibly difficult.

Is it possible to give her to a family who would be willing to let you visit sometimes? Or is there a neighbourhood kid who would love to visit with your dog either to earn some money, or because he or she can't have a pet?

You're doing the right thing in considering first and foremost your pet's wellbeing. Keep that in mind, and let yourself hurt--but do the best thing for your furry friend.

my kitten keeps vomiting. but like not really vomiting shes throwing spit. and its like shes choking and then sput comes out. i go to school so i really cant check and make sure that shes not vomiting qaround the house. i dont want to step on it. like i said its not really vomiting its like spititng but like shes chocking and then the spit coems out. she goes alott on my bed and i dont want her to vomit there. what should i do thanks.

Is there any way you can get the money? No one here can diagnose your cat. Can you talk to the vet about a payment plan? Do some odd jobs? Your cat's health is at stake.

It might be worms, it might be a hairball, or it might be something else entirely. If it's a hairball, you can help in the future by brushing her regularly. However, you should not assume it's that.

If you can't take proper care of your kitten, consider giving her to someone who will. She deserves better than being left to suffer because you can't find the money to pay for her treatment.
