about

I've been away for a while due to a serious illness and subsequent health issues.

Favourite quotes of the moment:

The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years - Even in biblical times men wouldn't ask for directions!

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. whatever we do to the thread, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle.

We spend the first 12 months of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next 12 years telling them to sit down and shut up!

As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never be pointing the wrong way.

May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

I've been very happily married since August 1980 to a wonderful man and have beautiful twin girls, now aged 31. Both are married to wonderful young men and one of our girls has recently made us grandparents to a beautiful, smart and feisty granddaughter. I studied geology with the Open University. I am retired from being a manager in a large UK based insurance company which I actually quite enjoyed. (How sad is that?). I love anything to do with the environment and wildlife and try to do my bit for preservation and conservation. I would like there to be a decent world for our grandchildren to inherit. I also have CFS so find life a bit of a challenge at times but always hope for better health in the future.

I have a deep interest in the spiritual and the paranormal worlds, having experienced several incidents myself, and have been involved in meditation groups and groups that (safely) explore the paranormal. There is more to this life than we would normally credit, so an open mind is always the best option. You're not so likely to get caught by surprise!

I have a deep fascination for anything to do with Ancient Egypt, as you can probably tell by my name. I have statues and paintings all around the house. As my hubby has a similar interest in Native Americans, we tend to have a lot of unusual wall decorations, like a tomahawk.

I love cars, especially vintage ones, but my all time favourite has to be the Bugatti Chiron, what a car!

I have had a lot to do with animals over the years. I have fostered many, helped to set up a wildlife charitable hospital and raised a diverse range of young animals from bats to fox cubs and different species of birds, even a baby deer! I have had great pleasure in sharing my life and home with a number of animals over the years, most of them rescues. I am currently sponsoring an Amur Tiger, they are such beautiful cats and desperately need help, there are so few of them left. I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to meet some Aye-Aye's and Livingstone's Bats, a truly wonderful experience. We now have three cats, Oliver and Mollie, a brother and sister, he's a ginger and she's a tortoiseshell and a black and white called Daisy. She arrived in a taxi and was left on our doorstep in a cat carrier with the message that 'they knew we loved cats and would be good to her'. She has settled down well and gets on wonderfully with the other two.

If you have a pet that is showing ANY signs of illness or distress, please, please, please take it to a vet! Even if finance is an issue, work that out later. It is cruel to leave an animal suffering for any reason. Most animals do not show signs of illness until they have been ill for some time, basic instinct tells them it is a display of vulnerability, and certain death in the wild. Their instincts have not caught up with domesticity.

I do feel that we should all treat others as we would wish to be treated. Bad karma comes back to haunt us.

advice

I really don't know if I did the right thing breaking up with my boyfriend. Every one I talked to has said I've done the right thing. Well anyway, my ex had "friends" who called me names all the time right in front of him and he never did anything about. Another occurance was when one of his friends threw dry glue at right in front of him. Well he just watched it happen. I have no problem with standing up for myself. It's just, well I don't know that's why I'm asking the question.

Worry no more! You did the right thing, if he really respected you, he would not stand by and allow his friends to abuse you. The right guy will turn up who will treat you with the respect you deserve. He needs to grow up. Best of luck.

Okay, my room is extremely messy..nothing is clean..and i feel like i cant do anything else until i get my room clean..so the problem is I HATE HATE HATE cleaning...esp. my room because it seems like a lost cause..to kinda give you an idea..i have a king size bed and there are clothes, magazines, and a bunch of other stuff on there that shouldnt be..the problem is i dont know where to start...should i start by putting away my clothes? picking up things on the floor or picking up trash or what? Thanks so much in advance!

If you hate cleaning that much, why don't you set a goal of picking up, say, 12 things every day and not adding to the mess anymore by putting/throwing away everything from that point on. It will take a while but you could set your own maximum amount according to how desperate you feel. You may find that as you start to see clear spaces appearing, you'll want to increase the amount you pick up every day.
I did this with my daughters and their messy rooms, it seemed to work quite well.

does anyone have a clue what the heckk a Roman mock sea battle is???

I already googled it and everything but couldn't find what it actually IS.

anyone know??....anyone

Roman Mock Sea Battles (or Naumachia), were one of the most spectacular forms of combat. They would flood the arena, or move the show to a lake.
The first man to hold a naumachia appears to have been Julius Caesar, who had an artificial lake created so that he could have two fleets fight each other in a naval battle. For this 10,000 oarsmen and 1,000 marines were used as part of the show, which re-enacted a battle between Phoenician and Egyptian fleets.
The famous Battle of Salamis in 480BC, between the Athenian and the Persian fleets was very popular and was recreated several times in the first century AD.
The greatest naumachia event ever held was in AD 52 to celebrate the completion of a tunnel which carried water from Lake Fucine to the river Liris, and took 11 years to build. 19,000 fighters met on two fleets of galleys on Lake Fucine. The battle was not fought to the annihilation of one side, although considerable losses occurred on both. The emperor judged both sides to have fought bravely and so the battle could come to an end.
Hope this answers your question.

like omg wen i shave my legs they grow back in one night's time:
1. is there any way i can make them stay smoother longer Ps I wana shave
2. is it a good idea to shave every day?

Shaving every day is not harmful, after all men do it don't they?
It sounds as though you have quite dark hair for them to show so quickly so you could try having them waxed or sugared. This takes the hairs from the roots so they take longer to reach the surface of the skin. It also means that the hairs will grow back with their usual pointed ends instead of the stubby flat ends you get from shaving, so they shouldn't be so obvious so soon. Good luck.

ok so im going to be 18 in about 9 weeks time and im thinking all my friends well apart from a few have all had sex even ones who are younger than me am i getting to old and whats the right age to have sex?? I would have had sex but my bf says he loves me but i do not trust him its like when we are away from each other he never contacts me or cares about me my question is shall i wait until the right one comes along to lose my virginity? thank you in advance.x

The right time is ALWAYS when you and ONLY you feel ready. It is your body and your responsibility, you're never too old but you can be too young. Also, the younger you are, the more risk you are at for developing cervical cancer.
If you don't trust your boyfriend with the usual things like contacting you, do you really want to trust him with your body? Wait until you are really happy and comfortable with someone you would trust completely otherwise you will always regret it. The first time should be a memory you can cherish, not be embarrassed or unhappy about.
Don't listen to your friends, listen to yourself. You don't trust him, so wait, it's not going anywhere! Good luck.

Okay, Well I need an anwer ASAP. Well, I will try to describe this as well as I can but yeaa Its not that easy. This is long but It has to be so you can understand exactly what happened so I can figure out what to do. Anways,My Boyfrind&& I were out back playin bbal one on one last night around 7ish. I wasnt even running or jumpin i was just movin around, and i was standing there dribbling and my knee just pops out of place and back in.So i colasp on the middle of the ally, it hurt extreemly bad and i have never been in that much pain my intire life. Like I couldnt get up for 5 minutes. Then finaly I decide I have to get up off the ally and of course I wont let him carry me and I couldnt put any pressure on it so he had to get beside me and help me becuase it hurt soo bad. Then i sorda crawled up the staires and into the house. Then I got my brace (i have knee problems, not bad, like if I run a lot or after a gam if i dont wear my brace my kene hurts and give out maybe once but gives out, not pops out and it has never hurt that bad, mo says it runs in the family). Then about 2 hours later, if not less, it did it again but not as bad. And ever since the first one screwed up my knee has hurt so bad.. its killin me!, yea its my bad one too. Omg! I have never been in so much pain my entire life!!! Ack! I guess I should start making it a usal thing to wear my brace because if that would happen while i was on the stairs or at school or alone or in the shower it wouldnt be good. It sucks..So The things i want ot kno is a>What happened b> When will the pain go away? c> Should I get medical attention?

14/F

-Meg-

See a doctor asap. If you already have knee problems you can't afford to take any chances, you may even have damaged a cartilage. Only the doctor will be able to advise properly, so go see him/her. Good luck.

16 and a guy. Ever since I can remember, I've always bottled up my emotions, especially my anger. That lead me into being a shy person most of the times, not all though. Because of that, I find that (and other have told me) that I'm not good at communicating with people. Especially when something bothers me, because I almost never say anything - just to avoid trouble. Here at home especially, and at school its like this. I'd really like some advice on what to do. " Just saying how I feel " is not something I'm used to.

I know it may sound silly, but try talking to yourself in a mirror to start with, (try to do this when there's no one else around or they'll think you REALLY have problems!). If you get used to the sound of your own voice saying how you feel, and not having to be careful of how you phrase things, in time you should find that you can say these things to another person. If you do do this, try to always end on a positive note, if you leave yourself feeling good about the chat you had, it should make it easier to face someone else. Doing this also enables you to learn how to put things, and the more you do this the easier it will become. Good luck.

I just wanted to know if being constapated, is dangerious? I have a fever and am feeling really bad. I haven"t gone to the bathroom in four days.Is it dangerious? Can you get ill from it?

Not going for four days is not good but it's not really bad either, although if it goes on any longer you would need to get it sorted out. However, having a fever with it might suggest that there could either be an underlying cause or something unrelated to it. Make sure you always drink sufficient fluids and eat plenty of fibre and I would suggest that if the fever continues, you see a doctor. If constipation is something you don't usually suffer from and your diet's fine, it could indicate something like a small blockage, this is not necessarily serious but still needs to be dealt with quickly as the symptoms will only get worse. Don't take laxatives unless a doctor recommends them, not knowing the cause of the problem, you may do more harm than good. Sometimes stress could have this effect, but whatever the cause you should see a doctor if nothing's happened in the next couple of days. Good luck.

okay, so i have known this girl for a long time, and i think she is the most beautiful girl on the planet, and i absolutely love her, but last year, i asked her out, and she said no and completely shunned me and the whole school makes fun of me now. i love her, and i would really like her to know that, and i want her to be my friend at least again, but she won't even talk to me since then. i even had to spend 2 hours with her during this group activity the other day at school, and she didn't say A WORD!!! not a single thing (to me, anyway). so does anyone have any thing that could get her to like me again? a certain charm, something to say, a style change, anything? it would really help...

THNX!!!!!
( i rate high for good answers!!!!)

She may be the most beautiful girl on the planet but that doesn't mean she has a beautiful personality or compassion. If she has ignored you and the whole school knows (who told them?), she obviously is not interested and you should forget her and look for someone who will appreciate you. You have to be yourself because it's not possible to maintain a front for ever, so don't try to change who you are. You seem to be a nice, sensitive person and there is someone out there for you, it's just not her. Best of luck.

ok sorry this might be long ill rate all 5's for your time.

i like this guy and he said he likes me back but he doesnt trust girls cause he's been hurt in the past. My one friend who is friends with him too talked to him about it and tried to get it threw his head that i wouldnt hurt him like that and i've tried also. i just dont know what to do anymore i like him so0o0o0o much and ill wait for him. but i dont know sometimes i think im wasting my time cause he'll never date me.

any advice on what to do?
thanks !

Be friends with him first and let him get to know you. Some people that have been hurt take a long time to trust again. Once he realises for himself you're not the type to hurt him and sees your true worth, he should come round. He has to do this for himself, as in this situation it would be difficult for him to accept someone else's word that you'll not hurt him, it will be a stronger feeling on his part if he makes the decision and doesn't feel he's been pushed to it. You must be a really nice person to understand this and to say that you will wait for him to come round. Just have patience and give him time. Good luck.

Hey. I've been a veggietarian for nine months now, and I've changed so much. I am so malnurished and I'm having like a million mental break downs. I've become really sad and angry. I wanted to stop being a veggie but its so hard! I wont eat meat or i'll start like crying...well not really but ill feel really sad and become moody. im also really malnaurished cause im allergic to a lot and cause im kosher. i need advise from a veggie or someone who once was one. thanx to anyone who can help! by the way...incase you wanna like address me in ur note back my names joey f/! thanx!!

xox

There is no reason these days to become malnourished on a vegetarian diet. There is a huge range of foods available now which weren't there when i became a veggie 20 years ago, ( i've actully put weight on). See a dietician and get a sensible eating plan together, one that will give you all the nutrients you need whilst staying on the veggie diet. You can take supplements to replace some things you can't get, like B6 and omega's 3 and 6 etc. Done properly veggies should be healthier than meat eaters as they are not eating all that fat from meat, they should be getting loads of vitamins and if they eat organic they are not eating all the anti biotics in meat or the pesticides. Your arteries will love you. Good luck with it Joey.

ok can someone please help me, i am at a total lose of knowledge here. so when you get car insurance you pay like every couple of months right? so when youi buy a car do you have like monthly payments for that too? and when you see like one of those cars on the side of the road that say 'for sale' do you only pay the flat fee to the seller, or do you pay monthly somehow?

i need all the info anyone and everyone can give, please!

I don't know which country you're in, but in England, as long as you are legally an adult, you can pay for insurance in instalments, this can vary from company to company. There is usually an APR (interest) for this though, so you could end up paying more for it. If you buy a car from a showroom they will usually offer an instalment plan, again check out the APR. If you buy privately, you usually have to pay 'up front'. Cars that are being sold by the side of the road are quite often there illegally, as the sellers don't have permits, and they can be a very bad buy. These sellers work on the 'sell them quick and disappear method'. Reputable car showrooms, whilst being slightly more expensive, are generally more reliable and normally offer a warranty with the car. Also depending on your age and pocket, it's a good idea that you get some insurance quotes on a car before buying, otherwise you could end up with either a car no one will insure you to drive, or with a bill so large you will struggle to pay it off. Good luck.

I accidently left my favorite water bottle filled with juice at work over the weekend, and now I can't get rid of the 'rotten smell'. But I don't want to just throw it away - I am quite attached to it.

Is there a way to get a 'bad smell' out of plastic containers?

Bicarbonate of soda dissolved in warm water. leave to soak for 24 hours, rinse well in warm, soapy water, should be fine after that.

okay so about two weeks ago my cat starting having diheria. i got medicine for him and its not helping! he has horrible diheria and is vomiting. he doesn't hold his food at all! and whatever he does digest he gets diheria. he use to be very heavy now he is soo light. i need help, what could be possible wrong with him? he is turning 10 years old in august. he acts like a kittin and is obsessed with string. he doesnt act or look his age.

i need help with this.

You really need to get him to the vet as soon as you can. That sort of behaviour is usually quite serious in a an animal of any age, but more so as they get older. It could be anything from furballs to an obstruction, from an organ problem, kidney, liver, pancreas etc to an infection. He could become dehydrated if this continues and it is likely to get worse. Don't take any chances, please? Good luck.

I've had this tiny bump under my eyelid for a week or so. It's not painful or anything, but when I rub my fingers over my eyelid I can feel it. What could this be? Is it worth getting a doctor to check it out?

It could be a stye or an ingrowing eyelash. If it's a stye (which is rather like a zit on your eyelid, it will go but you can get cream from a pharmacy to help, but don't touch it then touch the other eye, as it's contagious and you'll pass it on. If it is an ingrowing eyelash you may need to see a doctor as they can get very painful and may need to be removed, this isn't a big thing to have done though. If it lasts longer than a week or so you should get it checked out with a doctor. Good luck.

im hopefully going to this leadership camp as a counselor (i pray), and i was wondering if anyone had any good songs that are inspirational and motivational, that make you think about who you are and deep stuff. doesnt have to be religious (could be though), i have like the major ones like "go the distance" stuff like that, but anything that really reaches you deep in your heart. much appreciated!

I really like 'If God was one us' by Joan Osbourne. Great music and the lyrics really give you something to think about.

Whenever I'm in 6th Period ( Last period of the day ) I can never concentrate. I guess it doesn't help that it is math class too. My mind is either so tired from the school day or trailing off onto some other thought as to volleyball practice when schools over or how I'm going to get my homework done. I'm falling farther and farther behind in class because I just can't pay attention with all those numbers and being so tired since it's the last class of the day.

What should I do?

I don't know what time of day 6th period is but if it's around the 3-00 to 4-00 time, this tends to be the time of day when the metabolism starts to slow down. The effect is sleepiness and a lack of concentration. Try to eat some slow release carbs at lunchtime, avoid sugary things which give you a 'false high' and make you feel more tired when the effects have worn off, and hopefully by the time 6th period comes around you will still have enough energy to concentrate. Good luck.

I recently got a rabbit... I would like to teach it how to use a litter box....My question is ...what kind of litter should I use? What are things I should look out for? What are some things that are normal for a rabbit to do when litter training?....anything relating to rabbits will help so if u know anything about the topic I just brought up OR NETHING else please let me know..Thank YOU!

You can get books on rabbit care.Give it a good rabbit food and supplement with treats like carrot etc, but don't give it too much lettuce, it's not good for their digestion. Change their bedding every few days but not every day as they are coprofagious, that is, they need to eat some of their own faeces to absorb all the nutrients they need. You can use hay as bedding and/or in a litter tray but be careful of straw as is it quite hard and can poke them in the eye and cause damage. You should keep a fresh supply of hay for them to eat as this aids digestion, a salt lick and something to gnaw on as rabbits teeth do not stop growing. You can get all this from a pet shop. Rabbits are prone to overgrown back teeth so keep an eye on them, they need to be seen by a vet if they start causing problems, they are also prone to abscesses, so if you find one or the rabbit feels overhot or goes off it's food, again to the vet.Pick the rabbit up regularly as the more contact it has the friendlier it is likely to be. If it is boy, it may need to be neutered if it gets aggressive, but this should be a last resort as rabbits do not always respond well to anaesthesia. Keep it away from cords and wires as they will gnaw anything. Make sure it gets all the jabs it needs from the vets, especially if you're going to let it outside in good weather, rabbit diseases are horrible and usually fatal, they are easily prevented with yearly innoculations. Hope that helps, good luck.

my dog just died today. she got hit by a car. my dad was really close to her. everyone is so upset. i cried, i also felt really bad because when i would get mad at brittany (dog) i would yell at her and tell her i hope she died. but it seems that everyone is more upset then me. is there any way that i can get them to calm down?i know this is tragic but we cant all go crazy. everyone has a time when they died.

love kayla

Your poor family are in mourning. Pets are a part of the family and you've all just lost a loved member of it without any warning, it's a shock. People grieve in different ways and they just need time to come to terms with the loss. Just try to be supportive and not do anything to upset them at the moment. You shouting at Brittany in the past is something most people do if they're angry. It's not that you wanted her to die, it was just emotions coming out, so don't worry about it, it's quite normal. They will start to accept the loss in time and it can do you all good to let the grief out. If strong emotions are bottled up it can have a negative on the health. In time they may want to get another dog. This won't be a replacement, but giving a home to another animal can help, as it would give your family something else to focus on and love. Hope this helps and good luck.
