First find TONS of boxes and then take everything, and I mean EVERYTHING out of your room. Put the stuff in boxes and take the boxes outside. If you don't take everything then your room will remain cluttered. Then move around furniture that needs to be moved. Then lay 4 tarps outside. One Keep tarp, Trash tarp, and Sell tarp, and one for you to sit and sort. Then only take back stuff that needs to go back. Then sort things in your room. Make sure to dust good and vacuumm. But only keep things that you need. Then don't take anything in your room without having a place for it first. It is more fun if you listen to music or have a friend help while cleaning. Just don't get too distracted. I just finished helping my friend clean her room and she loves it. It looks so much better.

usually when i start to clean my room i start off by making my bed and then fold up all the clothes and put them away, then stack up all your magazines and put them away in a box or something under your bed or in your closet, then pick up scraps of stuff or things you dont need and throw them away and then vacuum your room. i hope that helped but if you need more advice let me know!

omg i have the exact same problem! i found out the best thing to do is to start off with small things and just kinda get into it, then by the time you move onto the bigger stuff it becomes easier and does't feel like a chore, it might work for you, give it a go and see

If you hate cleaning that much, why don't you set a goal of picking up, say, 12 things every day and not adding to the mess anymore by putting/throwing away everything from that point on. It will take a while but you could set your own maximum amount according to how desperate you feel. You may find that as you start to see clear spaces appearing, you'll want to increase the amount you pick up every day.
I did this with my daughters and their messy rooms, it seemed to work quite well.

ScratchesOnTheWall answered Sunday April 9 2006, 10:15 am:
haha yeah i can relate to that one. OK here's my system:
1) pick up all things which have a really obvious place to go eg:clean clothes in wardrobe, dirty in laundry bin, rubbish in bin, books on shelves etc.
2) once that's done it should look quite a lot clearer and then you need to work out where u put the random stuff- get some storage like drawers or boxes and try to find logical homes for stuff like magazines and things you don't use often and store them away under your bed or at the bottom of your wardrobe. if you haven't already, get a jewelery bow for accessories. File away papaers and school work in folders according to subject Be honest about what you really need and what you can throw away/send to a charity shop- don't horde things for the sake of it.
3)make the bed and vacuum, dust etc.

Put on music while you do all this-makes the time go much quicker. It's really great once it's finished.x

Cleaning your room can be fun! No I'm not a loser for saying that lol just make it fun. Get a old basket around the house and some glitter and glue and decorate it real pretty and put all your magazines in that. Put new posters up or articles out of magazines that you love or sexy boyz haha. Start with putting all the clothes away first either hangin em' up or chunkin' em in the dirty hamper because that is the task that takes the longest. Another thing you can do is pre-sort all your outfits together for school, Make another super cute basket for all your nail-polish and things. All this cool new stuff will inspire you to clean your room and keep it that way. Personalize it to make it YOUR room!

Well, first off, to make you feel any better I am HORRIBLE at cleaning too! But what has always made me feel better about my room is starting with the little things that make your room look so much better- picking up clothes, books etc. that are on the ground. even if your bed isn't made or there is a bunch of clutter in your room, you'd be surprised at how much cleaner your room looks when there isn't crap on the ground. Even if you are running late, just picking up a few things after yourself, and you will find that it helps. And then one day when you have a half hour or so, you can try organizing your room like shelves, under your bed, your desk, or dresser and maybe blast music that will keep you motivated, or make up a little dance as you go. I know that you probably will never keep it that organized (neither do I), but it will probably help keep the clutter down in your room. Once you do these simple things, you will find that you actually LIKE knowing where things are in your room, and how NICE your room actually looks when it is cleaner!

I just did my spring cleaning today! (I live in a double dorm room away from home, so you can imagine what a nightmare that was!)

What I recommend is starting in one corner, working your way around. First, clear off and make your bed, because it'll give you room to pile stuff. Then pick everything up off the floor and put it on your bed, and start sorting! Make a pile of laundry on your floor, put clean clothes away, and make a pile of papers and stuff to sort at the end. Once your floor is cleaned off, give it a good vacuuming, and you're done!

Not as bad as it sounds :P
