I remember a few months ago that you got a dog and you said that it had this one disease and it passed away because of it. I was just wondering what the disease was and the symptoms. I am so sorry it took me so long to write you back, I went a while without a computer. Well, I'm sure you already got a dog but just for the heck of it, I'll still fill ya' in on what is was that happened to my dog.

Parvo Virus:

Parvo virus is a viral disease of dogs. It affect's puppies much more frequently than adult dogs. The virus likes to grow in rapidly dividing cells. The intestinal lining has the biggest concentration of rapidly diving cell's in a puppy's body. The virus attacks and kills these cells, causing diarrhea (often bloody), depression and supression of white blood cells -- which come from another group of rapidly dividing cells. In very young puppies it can affect the heart muscle and lead to "sudden" death.

Sorry it took me a few days to answer your question. I myself have went thru what your going thru now, still when asked the question, I did not know the answer so I looked it up and this is what I found.

I stumbled across this site by accident. I seriously doubt many of you have the qualifications to give real people proper advice. After reading some of your responses to people's inquiries i was quite astonished as to how teenagers find they are able to give quality advice and information to real people in need with such little life experience. If you ask me you are not in a place to give your "personal opinion" when people truly believe you are giving them the right answer simply because you claim "people think i give really good advice". (eg. i am still at a loss as to how a 17 year old girl thinks she can give advice to someone regarding conceiving a child) I know you try to come across as a "godsend" to poeple who are in some sort of personal crisis and need a fast easy answer but the truth is, in the cases where it really counts, there rarely is one; at least not from you.

So your ASKING us to give you some insight, which in other words means you want OUR OPINION? Am I right? Yep. First off we are not all teenagers, I myself am 25 and there are a few others on here way older than me. When someone comes here for advice all we can do is tell them what we would do in that situation, or find them the resources or websites they need to find the information there looking for. If this was such a awful place then explain to me why I have had over 10,000 people visit my column and leave me feedback saying they like my advice. When we give people advice it is no different that listening to your girlfriend complain about something then telling her what you would do. It's not always the best advice, but it's advice. Everyone here knows, and are encouraged by us, to talk to there parents or a guidance counselor. What they do with the advice we give them is there business, not yours.

ok, i'll get right to the point, what the heck is a gyno???? i'm 15/f and have a very sheltered life. does going to one hurt? what do they do to you exactally? i'm not sexually active, do i still have to go to one? no, i'm not that regular yet, but i don't seem to be having problems. but i'm nervous. so please help!

Gyno is short for Gynecologist. You should go to one if your under 18 and want birth control or are having any kind of female problems. Other than that, you probably wont have to go till your 18 and it is very important to go every year. Going to one can save your life. They check for STD's once every couple years (or when you tell them to) and they check for breast cancer and all the other kinds of female cancer. Here's what they do: (don't be frightened, everyone has to do it at some point in there lives, Ive done it for 8 years now and I promise the whole thing doesnt last more than 5 minutes-if that.
First, you put on a paper gown that covers nothing. Then you lay back and put your feet into the stirrups so that your legs will be spread. The doc then puts the spectrum in to open you up. They use a cotton swab to take a sample of your insides to send to a lab to check for cancer etc. They'll also check for any ugly discharge. When that is done, you get out of the stirrups but stay laying down. The doc will then do a breast exam to check for abnormal growths. You will then have a chance to talk about any concerns you may have. And then you are done.

ok, i have to go through a bit of my past for you to help me with this so here goes...

my parents have been divorced since i was about 2-3, my mom has full costody of me. i'm now 15/f and my name is Alyssa (ya it's me again, you were really helpfull wiht my other subject so ya) my mom has always been there for me, always kept me safe, although a little strict. i have a 15min phone limit, i have to be in bed by 10 (i'm not complaining about that one) i can't be out past 8, i can't be out past 5 with my boyfriend. my mom and i have a close relationship, but sometimes she gets mad at me and it makes me want to hit something ( i never do) for lack of other ways to release my emotions. my dad is an alcohalic, but he has been sober for 3-4 year now. he can be perswasive (he can get just about anyone to do just about anything) and he used to scare me when he was drunk. he never hit me, don't worry. i get to see my dad every second weekend and just about every thrusday and sunday for a couple of hours. also, i promised my mom when i was young that i would never go and live with my dad, because of all the things he had done in the past..(when he was drunk, he threatened to give me up for addoption to my step dad) but that was when he was drinking. he also has a girlfriend now that keeps him in line and they plan on moving in together in the spring..

now here is my delema..i want to live with my dad..and my mom..my mom won't go for joing custody (when i asked i got a very long lecture) and i don't want to brake my mom's heart..but i've been living with my mom for almost 13 years that i can remember, and i wan't to spend more time with my dad...what do i do? please help me...

p.s. my mind tells me to live with my mom, but it also sais that dad deserves more time with me..and so does my heart i think...

First off, thanks for coming back to me for advice, it gives me that warm fuzzy feelin' inside lol j/k BUT it does make me smile! I can so relate to you dilemma! The only way I can help you is to give you the facts and give my opinion, so here goes. By state law if you want to live with your dad, at the age of 10 the child get's to make that decision. NOT THE PARENTS (unless the child doesn't care)So, if you want to live with your dad, your mom can't stop you. Now I know you wouldn't want it to come to that, being your mom and you are so close, so I would advice taking a different route. Talk to your dad first, let him know you want to live with him, and make sure he is totalll ok with it, then write your mom a letter. (Parent's usually "listen" more to a letter) Tell her you love her and although you want to stay with your dad for a while, it won't change the relationship you and her have now. Tell her it's not permanent (that might help her) and that you were blessed with having her in your life all these years and that now, you want to get to know that dad you never really knew. It she still forbids it and you still want to live with your dad that bad, then it's time for court. Your dad can fight her for joint custody and he will win as long as you are there saying you want to live with him. The very first time I got my period was march of 2006. I got it every month but then july was my last month getting it so i havn't gotten it since the summer! It is december!!! I know it's supposed to be irregular but when will I get it back? I am not underweight or sexually active if that helps.

There is no telling when your period will come back.. Just another perk of being a woman-haha. It sucks so bad when a period is irregular, you could go 2 months or 2 years before having another one. Sometime if you get to stressed out, that will cause them to quit coming too. Just make sure to carry a tampon on ya' in case the (.) decide's to suprise ya'.

Also, the "orangutan" thing, When that is said about someone it is always a FUNNY comment as long as it's not about you. Yes brest cancer is genetic BUT just because your "mom" got it, doesn't mean you will. After the age of 18, make yearly visits with your Dr. Catching lumps in your brest early enough is the best way to fight it. Maybe one day there will be a cure to prevent such a awful thing.

Okay I have this really amazing boyfriend..

is it normal for my handwriting to change depending on what moods i am in? the reason i am asking is because my teacher recently gave me like 5 zeros because she said that hand writing wasn't mine...AND IT WAS ALL THE ASSIGNMENT! the questions were written in cursive and the answers in a loopy print....so what's the deal. i tried to tell her and i swore to her that i didn't cheat....i even tried to show here other work samples but she wouldn't have a look at them. what should i do? and do you think my handwrting is changing because of my mood?

First of all you need to get your parents in on this or go to the principal and dispute this. This is without a doubt the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Even I, at 24 will change my handwriting, if Im feeling lazy then I write sloppy...you get the point. Your entilted to write any damn way you choose.. Omg what a moron for a teacher. Because you have to be 18 to purchase ciggarettes, you also have to be 18 to buy stop-smoking products as well. I know it sucks escpecially when you younger than 18 and want to quit or perhaps- wanted to give them to someone to maybe convince them to quit. I recently did the patch a couple weeks ago and I hated it. The patches wouldn't stay on, not even with duct tape! I ended up quiting but it was only after ripping the patch off and going cold turkey. I was a pack a day smoker for 9 & 1/2 years, so yea it can be done.

I'm a sixteen year old female. I have dark, thick hairs down the middle of my stomach below my bellybutton. I'm really self-conscious of it - I can't wear a swimsuit or anything. I've heard that shaving it just makes it darker and thicker (plus, I've shaved it before and it just comes back all stubbly). I've also heard that waxing does the same thing.

Is there any way to get rid of this hair or make it lighter? Is it unhealthy to bleach the hair there (like some people do to upperlip hair)?

There's nothing wrong with bleaching that hair there. Also, if you wanted to wax it, that could work to as when you wax, not only does it take the hair longer to come back, but the hair is much more finer when it does return. (not thick anymore)

It seems that you are very cautious about myspace which is a good thing. You did make some pretty good points there about how some ppl are just way to trusting and will tell a phedofile anything they want to know. I understand why your friend's keep raggin ya about myspace, because they care about ya' and don't want to see you get hurt. I heard that if you go to a Dental school or College, you can get free work done because they are basically in practice. Is this true & if it is, does anyone know where I can go about finding one?

Most colleges do have it to where the people going to school going to be a dentist do work on different clients for practice...Just like a cosmetologist does. But to my knowledge they still charge a fee that varies depending on what it is your getting done. Although there is a price, it is FAR LESS cheaper than going to a actual dentist and they only charge for the supplies they use. The will do braces for about $250.00, and out in town its over a grand. Look in your phone book for the closest college near you and call the Admissions Office and ask them if they have a program where they let the students work on people's teeth. I have considered doing this because I need braces and $250.00 is cheap when compared to $1,000 ya know. Good Luck and I hope you find one near you.
